Dazzling lights, adorned ornaments. The bustling sound of the crowd filled the streets as people walked around, enjoying the festive day. Merchants standing around at the side of the streets trying to attract customers, the audience cheering as they watched a puppet show while kids ran around giggling in excitement, it was truly a sight to behold. In this festival, the poor and the rich, the young and the old-- they were all part of this beautiful painting, a swirl of colours added to black ink and white scroll. However, none of these sights were the ones he was searching for. The ladies strolled around adorned in flowers and jewellery as they chattered, leaving a trail of blossoming fragrance. He looked high and low, his eyes trying to find that one person among the crowd. Brushing past strangers and weaving through the vendors, he was about to give up when finally, he saw her. Everything around him turned into a buzz of noises and a kaleidoscope of colours. Their gaze met each other as she stood quietly under the lamppost of a dimly lit street, lighting up his ashen landscape. Her mere presence brought joy to his heart as the flute sounded across the streets, the merry tune inviting those who hear it to dance together. Her smile brought him closer to her, their hands intertwined as they walked side by side. It was only then that he realized that the scene before him was made for the woman he loved. All the colours, music, and the festive season-- in his eyes, they were nothing without her, but everything to him when she was there beside him. 「蓦然回首，那人却在灯火阑珊处。 」 ............................................................... *This tune really gives off a festive vibe! In fact, the entire song lyrics used a poem composed by Xin Qiji (辛弃疾) from the Song Dynasty! I'm going to try to translate the poem in another comment, so be sure to stay tuned to it haha. *The Lantern Fair* {青玉案.元夕} 东风夜放花千树。 (The eastern wind adorns a thousand blossoms on trees at night) 更吹落、星如雨。 (Blowing adrift stars that scatters like rain) 宝马雕车香满路。 (Precious horses and lavish carriages leaves behind a trail of fragrance) 凤箫声动，玉壶光转， (The sound of flute, the waning of the moon) 一夜鱼龙舞。 (The night is filled with festive lights and bustling crowd) 蛾儿雪柳黄金缕。 (Embellished with gold silk and decorated with willowy tassels,) 笑语盈盈 暗香去。 (The ladies walks by amongst giggles and her fading scent) 众里寻他千百度。 (Searching for her trace amidst the crowds) 蓦然回首，那人却在， (A glance back and there she stands) 灯火阑珊处。 (Encased among the flickering candles and dimmed lights.) ....................... *The song uses an ancient poem dating back to the Song Dynasty, written by 辛弃疾 (Xin Qiji) as the lyrics. It was said that his grandfather had named him after a military commander from the Western Han, 霍去病 (Huo Qubing), as their names has the meaning of 'to forsake/dispel diseases'.* *A talented Chinese poet, calligrapher, politician and military general, Xin Qiji began his military career at the age of 21 and died at the age of 68 due to old age. He was well-knowned for his patriotic resolve and loyalty to the country, living his entire life trying to recover lost territories and contributing to the nation despite his ill fate and being politically oppressed. However, he has never lost his resolve, and instead puts all of his passion and worries into the poems he'd created. At least 600+ of his poetry has still survived until today, however only 1 calligraphy has been preserved in the Beijing Palace Museum.* **The poem **_Azure Jade Vessel_** . **_The Lantern Fair_** can be depicted with two meanings. Don't mind me, just a fellow listener :D • • • Summer is coming to an end. The breeze of the wind starts to feel different. Leaves crumble, leaving behind those brown drab colors, swaying down slowly onto the ground. Walking through the night festival, bussing market, people all around from West to the South interacting with all their goods. The sound of furin (風鈴) swinging with the wind from a vendor brings a sense of nostalgia of childhood. Indeed that summer, years ago in the countryside. Street vendors- koi catching, can shooting, caramelized apples, lanterns, and fireworks. The bright lights and chatter brings _me_ back to reality. On a chilly night when the sky's bright, the mixing sound between dizi (笛子), erhu (二胡), and tanggu (堂鼓) ensembles, creating such tune to remember. Leaping from side to side, she twists and turns, glancing left and right to the rhythm. With a pot of wine in hand, for this such a fine night. Trully, this shall be the night of nights ~☆ After reading the poem and the original music, the meaning hits different and it turns to a whole new vibe like unlocking a hidden secret somewhere. Really enjoyed learning it
