The title "Goddess of the Mountain" straight away explains the concept of immortality. Mountains, sun, moon, stars, sky, sea...all of these are immortal. They remain where they are even when generations pass by. They have stood there forever... And have seen people, animals, insects, birds, trees leaving this world. But they themselves can never have the opportunity to leave the world. The "Goddess" here is the spirit of the mountain. It's a personification. She yearns to enter mortality. In the picture, we can see how the flowers behind her are wilting and yet, she herself can't wilt. She must have lost a thousand loves of her life and yet she still can't be a mortal. It's painful, agonizing and tiring. And the song is just a way of telling us her sufferings and what a curse it is to be an immortal... I hope one day, this beautiful goddess gets rid of this curse and her yearns could be answered.

We try to create meaning in life because every human is scared of death because ta-da being inherently scared of death is highly beneficial for reproductive success and natural selection go prrrr. (if it doesn't make sense for scientific data, the life expectancy of people who have lack of sensitivity to pain and temperature(CIPA) is very low; most people don't live over the age of 25 years, and also the disease is extremely rare 🙂) And lack of meaning in life strays us away from the will to live and eventually strays us away to death by either neglect or direct suicide. The woman/goddess here only suffers despite being immortal because she deludes herself with the idea of the possibility of being eternal lovers in paradise when we give emotional value to love and lust in the first place only to create meaning in life and we only create meaning in life to feel more scared and less curious of death. However lustful or "pure" their love could've possibly been in the said paradise, the lovers would soon realize the delusion of the emotional prizing of both lust and love once there would cease to exist any reason to create meaning in life because there would be no death to be scared of. Having either sexual or "pure god-honouring romantic activities" everyday would soon seem as monotonous as being alone in the mountaintop. the poet himself died of suicide so it clearly looks that the poet himself struggled to find meaning in his life and couldn't see that we don't live because of meaning in life, but rather we create subjective meanings of life to feel motivated to live see teachings of Buddhism. It gave me all my answers as to why my emotional pain and suffering, like many others seemed to be rooted in ultimately nothing and felt like no amount or dosage of SSRIs and materialistic possessions/freedoms could cure it.
