Those two springs pins go to attach the entire ladder to the base plate mounted to the tailgate. That way you can detach the whole ladder from the tailgate when it may be in the way.

The rubber bumpers are meant to cushion and support the ladder against the tailgate. They are installed upside down in this video. Additionally, the bolts are meant to hold the leg extensions tightly to the ladder portion. The cotter pins should be at the top on the mounting plate, so that you can quickly and easily remove the ladder if you need to.
@BIGALTX4 жыл бұрын
Thanks. I have recently changed things around.

@@BIGALTX NO, YOU INSTALL IT FINE THE FIRST TIME.. THATS THE WAY.
@willd47114 жыл бұрын
This install is completely backwards. First off. Those mounting bars connected to the mounting plate are upside down. See the rubber guards there on top? They should be on the bottom so they touch the tailgate lip instead of just the bare metal. Also, those retainer pins are meant to be installed to the top of the ladder where it connects to the mounting plate. So it can be easily detached. The bolts you installed with the nylon locking nut are meant for the rungs. Position them as needed for the height of the tailgate and then tighten them permanently. Sorry for the long winded comment!

Sorry Pard, you didn't read the instructions. In mine the belt hold down belt, the screws stripped. I used a 1/8" (8/64ths) bit for the pilot hole on the straps. I fully endorse the ladder but YMMV on the install. If anyone has a better idea (maybe Rivnuts) LMK

Super video. I would add one change. Put the straps inside the lowest part of the grove. This way when you load or slide items onto the tailgate the screw heads won't dig into the sides of cardboard boxes. Thanks for sharing. Best Wishes & Blessings. Keith Noneya

Looking for something to replace the stupid strap. Mine had a plastic buckle that did not survive because it was always getting in the way while using the tailgate and finally got pinched and broken. I am wondering if I can put some Velcro on the tailgate and the ladder leg near the bottom or the strap should use Velcro as the "buckle".............

You mean perpendicular to the tailgate, instead of parallel? How would it secure to the truck when not in use, but still allow for the tailgate to open and close? And this way you can steady yourself on the side of the truck for security /safety. Maybe I didn't understand your question.

I'd rather use the bed corner helping me to keep my balance while stepping on the rungs. If mounted like you said there is nothing to hold onto. But if you are under 30 years old your balance is much better than mine and can probably manage it fine.
