Lana is a singer-songwriter! Ultraviolence’s sound is influenced by its main producer, Dan Auerbach of the Black Keys. But, it’s still very much a Lana creation, she writes and produces and has heavy say and involvement in the whole album process. A song on the album, Pretty When You Cry, was sung and recorded completely on the spot, and put in the record as is, no pre-written lyrics or instrumentals. Most of the vocals on the entire LP were done in one take!

Lana's the realest. She IS the industry. She writes all her music herself, produces, she's the only artist who i hold dear to my heart, for alllllll the reasons. Watching these "reaction" videos, truly makes my day. Seeing others fall in love with her artistry just puts all the feel good into my bones !! She's the only artist that was worth traveling over five hours to go see last October 3rd out in Pittsburgh. She's top top top tier 😅😊

My favorite part is how the music picks back up when the imagery goes back to her being on the beach with the young guy having fun. When she says “I can see my baby…” it goes back to her being in the car with that older man smoking and the music slows down a lot. When she’s in the car with him she’s reminiscing about her old love. I think this symbolizes her having to sell her old life in order to make it big. She had to leave someone she actually loves to chase her Hollywood dream down.
