I also have the mentality of keeping devices until they become unusable, but I wanted to do that with a phone I was genuinely 100% happy with, not something I was sorta happy with. So I bought a new green 13 mini, in cash, in store. This is the ideal phone for me. I’ve always hated black/grey/white phones and somehow only ended up with that, so I was ecstatic to finally have something in my favourite colour, AND it’s a very compact size, with incredible battery. I’ll be running my 13 mini for years to come.

The iPhone 1 basically doesn't work any more. The phone and text messaging apps might work if you are in an area that still has 2G. Wifi will work if you get a period-appropriate router and connect it to your network, but not on modern wifi. Email almost certainly won't work, certainly Microsoft, Google, and Apple's offerings won't work. Not sure about Yahoo.

My wife and I currently have a 8 and 12. When the 15 pro comes out we’re both going to switch to that with 256 or 512 gb and then keep them for like 5 or 6 years. Not really worth upgrading phones often anymore

Drew go with an iPhone 13 or 13 mini 256 GB. You wont regret either option. The 13 is a slimmer 11 with better battery life. The 13 mini is the SE 2 in size with all of the modern design language and features.

remember the iPhone 11 and Xr for that matter, I really think one of the biggest upgrades of the 12 generation was the bringing of OLED to all iPhone models for the first time ever. The iPhone OLEDs are not only so much nicer than most of the Android OLEDs but they are a massive upgrade over the old LCDs (which to be fair were excellent LCDs). I think the next major upgrade is going to be whatever generation brings 120 Hz to the entire line which I think will happen eventually

I will agree with he size complaint of the 12 or later, however my Xr is the same weight, size and materials as the 11 however the extra bulk is nice for me because it's comfier for me and also just the trimmed off parts with he 12, 13 and 14 standard to me it's then too small because it is like you said shout he 11 here, the awkward middle ground because the X isn't much smaller than the 12 in height and width

All roads lead to the iPhone 12 mini. It’s the perfect smartphone. Just the way Steve Jobs imagined. An elegant and *handy* tool, slim and lightweight, an all screen design you can reach easily every corner of with your thumb. Intuitive interaction. Also just putting out a possible suggestion, but maybe if you plan on getting the new iPhone this year by any reason, go for the 15 Plus instead of the Pro Max cause while it doesn't have the 120hz, it will have the best battery life, no price hike, dynamic island (2.0), new curved design and 48mp camera too and frosted glass and nice color options! I feel I might wanna go for the 15 Plus cause I've been with the Pro Max for about a year and a half now and I think while I will stay with the size, the price of the 15 Pro Max is probably going to be insane even with monthly payments and also while still having a Phablet, the 15 Plus will be a lighter phone too.

I've been using my iphone 11 for about 3 years and the only things that annoy me are no usb c and battery life starting to slip. I got an easy 2 day of battery when brand new and now am at 10% about an hour before the end of my day. Still gets ,e by for sure but will likely be upgrading to the 15 just for usb c. One charger to rule them all like back when I had a pixel will be great.

Switched to a newer iphone for the same exact reason as your wife, still regret the choice. 64 gb are really small these days, but i loved my 11 pro max. 13 pro feels heavy, uncomfortable to hold, thicker and so on so forth. SE1 is a fantastic phone still worth keeping. I have a 13 mini, but I bought an SE as a secondary device for that ultra compact size and delicious gold colour.
