Another reason it made a lot more sense for facebook is because they were only changing the name of their compony, not their app. Facebook is still it's own app. And it makes more sense that Instagram and their other apps are owned by "meta" rather than facebook. it was a little weird that instagram was owned by facebook, while facebook is its own social media at the same time. meta just didn't want people to see them as facebook, the social media app, but something more than that. It would be weird to market a vr headset as a facebook headset. I think the name change was completely justified there, but I agree with you that the change to X is werid.

@@weird-guy Right, but X Corp doesn't own SpaceX, Tesla, or Hyperloop. Tesla will continue to be its own thing regardless because there are minority shareholders who want to invest in cars, not the other stuff. SpaceX, I think is the same, but with satellites and rocket stuff.

I’ve heard ppl say this. I see no problems with the platform. Everything works as well as ever, in some ways better, it’s faster now. Marginally. The changes haven’t really made any impact to the experience, but long form video content increasing has been great. So mess? I don’t see it. I assume that’s anti free speech sentiment, rather than fact. A hope for a mess. Just as Threads was talked up excitedly to kill freedom of speech. But we all knew nobody would use it long term and it’s now over 70% down on its peak. Thank goodness.

Meta is just the holding company name, because as well as Facebook, they also own WhatsApp, which round my way anyway is a lot bigger than Facebook, and also Instagram, which is bigger in some demographics. That makes sense. I’ve said it before, but Musk should stick to making hardware, he is a lot better at that. MKBHD did a review of the solar roof thing from Tesla, and it seems very impressive. He can do a lot more there, and with his cars and satellites.

Before Steve got kicked out of Apple, he was a massively infective leader who consistently failed. His first successful product was mainly the work of Woz. It wasn't until he returned and learned how to accept being wrong, that he started really being successful and helped create the iPhone, MacBook, iMac, iPod, iPad, etc. Elon is still stuck in an egoic mind state and is preventing him from allowing smarter people to correct him when he is wrong about something.

Creator monetization is a good idea but even that has been implemented horribly. Elon’s favorite accounts got massive payouts while a lot of other creators who should be elegible under the rules have received nothing. The process to become approved for monetization has absolutely no logic to it.

The X name and the visuals aren’t at all compelling. It’s more like a high class call girl service. I appreciate the logo is suppose to be a placeholder & will be changed. So it at least could improve. But that begs the question, why change it until you’ve decided? Much has changed & improved though. Long form video for verified accounts has really started to take off & been useful when YT has censored. There’s been notable successes there, like What is a woman and Tucker Carlson. A place where videos (within reason) aren’t censored is beyond valuable to the American ideal, the freedom of the world too. We are, or were the beacon of freedom & hope around the world to millions. Elon is keeping that part of the American Dream alive, at least mostly, more than most. The other parts of the everything app are starting too. Buying directly on the platform is happening, but needs pushed. Good rant fella 👍🏻

Some languages don’t have an X and for example, X in Spanish is “equis.” Very stupid new name. Other languages can’t pronounce the English X. So he made a global company and English speaking company? Not smart - and I’m an expert on branding by education.
