Honestly its a spinning reel with insane drag capable of fishing 130lb class line, it does the job of my 30w tiagra but better, i still fish my 2008 shimana stella 20000 which i prefer to the new ones and so far its landed me 2 goliath grouper, countless sharks up to 8ft, a 138lb yellowfin tuna, cubera snapper, tarpon, texas aligator gar up to 7ft, regular aligator up to 10ft🤣, 63 lb blue cat, decent sailfish, couple eagle rays, i had my friends tie leader to their backpacks and run away as fast they can simulating a fish fight, the reel stopped them dead in their tracks

I received mine with a gear failure🤐 6000PG,handle wiggles and it does make a loud sound when i stop reeling.Waiting for Shimano to change it.Bought it for Europe Catfish.Before that i had Spheros 6000(gear broke at 1st fish 40kg+) and Saragosa(bearing failure after 50h of fishing).I don t understand why hagane gear instead of bronze gear.That s 4 times more tough than hagane.I owe 2 custom reels(5000) only 239g,12 bearings,almost entire Stella technology,bronze gear and i ve landed alot 70kg+ catfish without any problem.Will see how Stella will do.

Is it worth the buy? Depends if you actually fish a lot or less than10 times per year. If you fish every day/week than it is worth the buy. Picture having the fish of your lifetime at that end of your rod, do you really want to lose it? Also, the Shimano Stella is the perfect retirement/graduation/celecration gift for the fisherman.

I own that same stella, Was it work 1k? Depends, if you think its going to catch fish a $300 reel wont, you'll be disappointed. If you think its smoother than a $300 or even cheaper reel you'll be disappointed. A well made $300 reel will last forever with good maintenance as well. Now, If you bought it for bragging rights, style, and to show your passion off you'll find every penny worth it!

That is an interesting question William, I personally wouldn’t go with anything less than a 5k but it also depends on what I am fishing for. If you are talking about big black drum I would probably go up to an 8k. If you are talking about Tarpon, I would start at an 8k or larger. I hope that answers your question. Thanks for watching.

I'd go with a van staal or daiwa. If you've ever seem a exploded view, the shimano has Hundreds of parts. The daiwa only has maybe 40, van staal even less. I'd go with VS

That's dumb to spend that much. You can find another reel that's $150-$300 range and ANY reel with that price is gonna FEEL like quality in ur hands and PERFORM like quality. Tight tolerances n waterproof bearings are also on reels at that price point too. I remember when I bought a Shimano Calcutta baitcaster for $200 and how solid n amazing it felt in my hands I thought I had the best of the best even tho there is better because if I wasn't familiar with that reel n someone told me that's the best reel money can buy, I would of believed them. Trust n believe in a blind test a sub $300 reel would feel identical to that Stella.

Shimano Stellla is not worth 1k I dont care what anyone says. Think about it...a tiny 3000 or 4000 stella spinning reel having way less material in it compared to a Shimano Gold or even a penn 130 class Gold conventional reel yet priced about same retail? Come on! Its priced that high knowing there will always be fishermans that will think a more expensive reel means it is better and will catch more fish. Not true at all. Shimano is aware that pride is a powerful tool to use to profit knowing some like to brag on the gear they own yet cant catch anything. In my town, a fishing retail store were selling Shimano Stella reels less then the average retail price it normally goes for. But when Shimano heard of it (after another jealous fishing store reported them) they contacted the fishing store and told them that they can not sell their reels that cheap. The fishing store owner said it is their choice on how much they want to sell it for. Shimano did not like that idea and retaliated by no longer selling their reels to the store anymore. You see...you never want to support a brand that tries to dictate what their gear should be sold for retail. All Shimano cares about is keeping their prices inflated causing the customer to pay more then it is really worth, not because Shimano have to recoup the cost of the gold and silver the reel is made out of....but to keep the hype keep going. Nothing but a selfish sales tactic. Like I've said earlier...a 1k spinning reel doesn't mean you will catch more fish which is what should be the main objective. It has been proven time after time a less costly reel/gear can easily out perform the stella due to ones talent not the amount of Benjamin Franklin's you drop on a reel. Don't fall for the hype! No spinning reel is worth 1k!

The reel is justifiably worth $1k...IF you pair it with an equally high quality rod. The reel only does 15% of the work in a rod/reel combination. The rod is the more valuable piece, so pair the great reel with a great rod. Otherwise it's no different than buying a 911 GTR3 and putting Walmart discount tires on it. Sure, it'll roll down the road, but what's the point in wasting the money?
