Took my brand new Battle II 5000 for a spin yesterday for the very first time and I hooked a 20lb yellowtail using a Ugly Stik X2 (medium hard) rod kzbin.infoUgkxM68VkfsQhHaabDce1IwOCXuvumcpbZ_k . This combo was recommended on some website and it did not disappoint me. The reel is smooth, the drag click is pretty cool cause i think it adds to the excitement of fighting the fish, personally the drag is my favorite part. I use braid and 300 yards will fill the entire spool. This combo is my main setup from now on although I have to disclose I am new to fishing.

Saw the older models on clearance on basspro because of the newer ones that came out and ended up pulling the trigger on the newest 2020 model 5k. No regrets and already put some GTs on it. Never had such a smooth fight with a fish. The smoothness and the platinum service that comes with the reel is what makes it the legendary reel that it is.

Brotha congrats on that beautiful reel...you're dad is right...and you know the Stella is half finesse half power house...i give you respect...but if I was you...use that beast of a reel to it's full potential. It costs what it is to catch beasts with a 7/0 hook wire leader. If you say its a Ferrari of a reel...drive it at high RPMs and feel that power fighting bigger fish. I did the same fighting that 40" Tarpon on my Stadic FL 4000 and caught it with ease. So I hope the next video to see some muscle baby! Treat it nice but enjoy it as well! I am now soon 54 years old and have fished for as long as I can remember, and maybe even longer than that, as I have seen photos of me holding fishing rods at the age of 3. I have fished a lot of different kinds of fish, with lots of different methods and in many different places in the world. Both salt water and sweet water. There are not many times I see the point of having a Stella and where a much cheaper reel can't do the job as well as a Stella. Yes, it is suuuuuper nice to use and you get the high end luxury feeling, but if you don't have tons of money to spend on fishing gear, you should ask yourself what else you can buy for that kind of money instead. In most cases, would it be much better to invest the money in some high end top quality fishing rods. You will in most cases get much more fishing fun and fishing results by spending more on your rod and less on your reel. Where a Stella really shines and might be worth the money, is when you need a very powerful break that works as it should, no matter the beating it gets from a very strong and/or fast fish. Like when fishing for Marlin. Specially when you happen to hook a much larger/stronger fish than you thought you would. That is when a cheaper reel can let you down and be the reason for why you lose the fish.

only set back is that shimano stops supporting/servicing reels 5 years after they discontinue their products,,,so now the 2019 stella's have discontinued the 2014 stellas, and previous users have until 2024 to fix their reels and after that, they become obsolete....such a huge investment. you expect these reels to outlive you, like the van staals...but no. I regret SO MUCH for buying them. sigh...should've bought the van staals as a life long investment.

Super strong aluminium alloy body, stainless steel machine cut spool, precision machine cut gears, ball bearings in every moving parts, Titanium bale arm. When trolling a spoon type lure on a spinning reel you should use a ball bearing swivel vs the clip. The spoon is gonna wobble and twist while trolling on just a clip causing uneven line lay wraps. This causes uneven pressure on the spool which can wear out spinning reel parts . Stella's are built extremely well but its an unnecessary risk to take. Second set up a spray bottle with reel cleaner and just give a spray or two and wipe down vs excessive cleaning. You can overkill your reel with love cleaning it to much removing important reel grease. A Shimano neoprene spin reel cover for about $12.00 is a great option as well so you can leave the reel on the rod and not stress about protection. Gumbo looks great, real brown roux cooked properly makes serious gumbo well done!

honestly to me rods dont mean much but getting decent reels does. price range from 80-150 is good for reels. alot of these kastking, pissnfun, are pretty much garbage. they boast all these ballbearings and high drags but the truth is they are garbage. until they make reels in the 50-100 price range with usable drag and i say USABLE drag then i would consider throwing money in that market...most of those low end flashy reels have drag that goes from 5lb 10lbs 15lbs and 25lbs in half a dial spin...no thanks. garbage drag means increase chances of losing trophy fishes. i recommend people to shop in the $90-$150 price range.

You want believe it,I have a Penn 2500 and 3000 for about all fresh water fishing. Add a 4000 and 6000 ,handle it all.The 6000 would handle a lot of slot fish. Its the penn pursuit lll, with with a HT-100 drag system. This is the best bang for your buck.

I think u might want to run the boat a bit slower. Hard to tell from video , but trolling suuuuper slow works best for us here in Maine.

Japanese made nice reel , it’s nice ! Lot of cares . In Massachusetts, we can keep 28”-35” only and have to be on a circle hook .

Have you experimented with different knives? Not trying to be a bummer or a troll but it looks like your knife is not sharp. I've been trying lots of Japanese and German knives instead of a traditional filet knife for filleting fish. The results have been outstanding with minimal shredding and waste, very clean cuts. Also bought some nice whetstones to keep things sharp. Even sheepshead and black drum filet with ease now. I recommend it.

It will certainly work great for the surf! I think the stella is a very good all around reel. Very versatile. The penn is great mid range consumer priced reel for casting and leaving a bait on the bottom for fishing, other than that it is too heavy for my liking. Just my opinion

@@HeySkipper Slammer III and Stellas are the same weight for the same line capacity. You somehow keep making the mistake that the model numbers indicate the same size between the brands.

I like the gear ratio on the stella and stratic compared to the penn reels of equivalent size. The only thing is you need to service these high end reels often while I call the Penn reel and pole combination my trusty battle ax. Man I miss fishing.
