I’m so glad I found this video, I’m 6’1” and stretching is absolutely essential

I'm a PE teacher and would like to add some info. You might want to do a general warm-up first before stretching. This will increase blood flow, makes the mucles more flexible and eventually prevent more potential injuries. Just ride for a few minutes low key and make sure your heart rate will raise. Second: there are several ways to stretch. The most common ones are: dynamic and passive. With dynamic you're prepping the muscles for explosive action (look at sprinters). I can imagine this would be a good method for BMX. There is lots of info online on how to stretch dynamic. Just food for thought. Furthermore: love your channel. It's really accessible and fun to watch. Keep it up ✌🏽 Grz from the Netherlands

I think another important aspect for tall riders is a longer chainstay. I am 6'1" and I rode a 12.7 inch chainstay and kept looping out and it made manuals really difficult. Once I switched to a longer 13.25 inch chainstay, I noticed increased stability and less looping. Chainstay is mostly a personal thing, but tall riders need to keep this in mind.

Gym rat advice on stretching would be to do it about 30 before riding. And after. That way you are limber but that power returns. And you stay more limber afterwards

Hello. I'm tall rider 6"5 (196cm) I'm ride a custom bike. 22.6 TT 14.6 Rear lenght top load stem 10" bar. the complet bike look like gigantic for average people but that not oversize for me. I will switch on 22" wheel soon I think for every body taller than 6"2 that stupid to stay on 20" wheel. For exemple if you scale a 20W from 6"5 guy to a 5"9 guy, this is like he ride a 18" W. Their is some serious brand for 22W bike. Like Lairdsframe or SBC. Some of them are few dollard more expensive than traditoonal 20W But remember, the serial 22W are made for average people not for tall rider. for same ride space between cranck and bar you need a longer Top tube on 22W than a 20W. Don't buy a audio 22W and hope that a right size for you. For exemple i think a 23Top tube (22W) is ok for 6"4 rider

When I wrestled in high school we would warm up by lightly jogging to get our muscles warm and stretched after a match to help prevent fatigue. That way we did not get hurt and still had explosive power.

I don't understand why you still have 5.24k subscribers. Your content is so amazing but I'm a bit sad not many people know about it. Thank you so much for the video. I'm 5'9 and I'm 14 with a 21 inch top tube subrosa tiro xl. I really love the bike except the fact that my parents are constantly mad at me and want me to return it. It does give me some back problems but otherwise its pretty good. I guess its jus the fact that my parents don't know bmx. I will just show them this video and tell them that you ride around 21 inches too even though your so much taller than me to hopefully convince them to let me keep it. Keep up the good work dude, your awesome.

Thanks for the kind words man! I hope your parents let you stick to BMX. My parents bought me a 19.5" TT DK bike when i was 13 (probably 5'8 or 5'9) so it's good that you are on the right size!! Just keep shredding and stretching you'll be fine 🔥

Great video @dougsterbob Thanks for this great content! Question: Is there any hope for someone that was really great at tricks 20 years ago but grew ALOT and now I am 6'7" and 270 lb? I still dream about riding. Literally have dreams about it. I in great shape, tight core, strong muscles, and I still do many things that I did in my teenage years. But I am looking for advice on a bike options. Is there a great Freestyle/BMX bike made for very tall people? The other thing about being older and smarter is that the cost is not an issue. Any thoughts?

Great video, I bought my 14 year old son a Kink FC after watching your reviews earlier this year and his riding has progressed rapidly compared with riding my old 2013 Haro 350.1 with the 21 inch top tube. That said now I am back on the Haro and would like to switch out the front load stem for a top load with a little more rise to bring the bars up and back a bit... Do you have any recommendations for a stem with that setup? I'm 6'2" and 44 years old if that helps =) I subscribed and look forward to that workout plan as I'm rehabbing from a "McTwisty" myself with a high ankle fracture. Edited to indicate model
@Dougsterbob4 жыл бұрын
I love to hear it!! It really is crazy how much the correct size will help with progression. Stem wise, the best one you can get would be the Sunday Freeze. it has a shorter 48mm reach and a 34mm rise. It's really cheap, but i had it for years with no issues. us.sourcebmx.com/collections/stems/products/sunday-freeze-topload-stem?rfsn=4592530.2f3e7c¤cy=usd I love that you're over 40 and still riding. That is awesome. Make sure that you ice your ankle 1 to 2 times a day! I use a small trash can and fill it with ice and then water. It is going to suck. but it helps!! Thanks for the support 🙏🙏🙏

I am 6"4 and 40 yrs old. I just got my kid a 18" Sunday Primer and wanted to trash the POS Beach cruiser is have. Everyone is saying I'll regret a 24" because I cannot relax and ride, ride the dog sitting down, etc. So do I have to go 29" or is 24" ok for everyday riding and long distance riding with a dog and 6yr old? I still want to do the occaitonal bunny hop onto a curb, jump a few small things, etc. I have no intention of becoming a pro BMX rider. WHat do you recommend?I feel its 24 or 29. There's no point to get a 26" bc to me it feels like a mountain bike that is just way too small. Your thoughts? It sucks because everyone is buying them up and upcharging all the bikes by $200-$500 from mfg price.

Hey man thanks for the info. I'm 6'3" and 220lbs (headed down all the time,) do you think a 21.75 inch top tube and 22 inch rims would be right for me? could the tube be too short or the rims too big? I'm really worried that I won't be able to ride street as well on the 22s or that the top tube will be too short, but I have no frame of reference since there are no bmx shops around here and i've never ridden this style. Thanks in advance for your help, I really appreciate that there's someone trying to get this information out.

So for me, I’m 6’4 and around 180-200 and I’ve always rode 20” wheels with a 21” toptube. Those bigger 22” bikes really are not designed for tricks. They will feel nice riding around and maybe even cruising dirt jumps. But the geometry makes tricks harder. So if you plan to do tricks stick with 20” wheels. I’m not sure on your skill level but subrosa makes the trio xxl and it’s a 21.3” toptube beginner bike. If you’re higher than beginner you will destroy this bike because it’s kinda low quality though. Haha hope this helps a little!

22 is kind of a gimmick and 24 makes choices hard for Geo. 2.5 tires on 20 inch rims gives you an overall diameter around 21 and a bit. 22 adds only a inch or two at best more space and limits tire and rim choices hard.
