Once again, disappointed but not surprised at the comments as they really cement the points discussed in the video. Truly baffling how people can't fathom such a rudimentary concept that ISLAM AND CULTURE + SOCIETY ARE DIFFERENT THINGS. The level of ignorance regarding women's rights and position in islam is downright terrifying so let's break down some of the points being misconstrued in the comments. First of all, the lense people view women's right through are from the western imperialist lense, which i mind you, is a fairly recent notion. Islam gave women their rights 1400 years ago whereas the feminist wave is barely a century old. The women’s suffrage movement emerged in the 19th century as a response to deep-rooted social, political, and economic inequalities that marginalized women. Despite their significant contributions to society, women were largely excluded from the political sphere and denied the right to vote and education, which limited their ability to influence laws and policies that affected their lives. Influenced by the abolitionist movement and the broader fight for civil rights, women began organizing efforts to advocate for suffrage. The rights 'white women' were fighting for (which were only for 'white women') were already given to 'all' women by Islam. - Inheritance: In Islamic law, daughters have the right to inherit property. While the share is typically half that of a son, this in it of itself is a significant advancement in a historical context where women often had no inheritance rights. Moreover, you need to think things holistically, not through a myopic and biased lense. In islam, women receive 'Mahr', a marriage gift, from their husbands, which is a form of financial security. The amount is determined by mutual agreement and is a 'woman's property'. The women has no obligation to take care of her in laws but the son has the responsibility to take care of his parents that's why 2/3 of the share makes sense. - Education: yes, education rights were given to women in islam that the western women were fighting for and started the feminist movement for. The first revelation had the word "read" emphasising the importance of knowledge for all muslims. The Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) emphasized the importance of education for both men and women. Women are encouraged to seek knowledge, which is considered a duty for all Muslims. - Mutual Consent: Marriage in Islam requires the mutual consent of both parties. Coercion is not permissible. If so, the nikkah is invalid in the eyes of Allah. - Rights in Marriage: Wives have the right to work and their money is 'their money' but the husband shoulders the responsibility to take care of the wife and kids financially. Holy prophet (pbuh) said, "Among my followers the best of men are those who are best to their wives, and the best of women are those who are best to their husbands" - Divorce Rights: Women have the right to seek divorce (khula) under certain conditions, and they are entitled to fair treatment during the divorce process, including maintenance and support. - The Messenger of Allah(ﷺ) said: "There is no man whose two daughters reach the age of puberty and he treats them kindly for the time they are together, but they will gain him admittance to Paradise." Before Islam, women in the Arabian peninsula were treated as mere objects, traded and exchanged between men, if they weren't buried alive at birth. This changed only after Islam came into the equation. An incident is reported where a sahabi told the Holy Prophet (pbuh) about killing his daughter in the time of Jahilliya before he accepted islam and when the man finished his story, he looked up and saw that the Holy Prophet was weeping. Then the Prophet (pbuh) said, “If he had been allowed to punish a person for his crimes before embracing Islam, I would have punished you.” - It was narrated from Mu'awiyah bin Jahimah As-Sulami, that Jahimah came to the Prophet (ﷺ) and said: "O Messenger of Allah! I want to go out and fight (in Jihad) and I have come to ask for your advice." He said: "Do you have a mother?" He said: "Yes." He said: "Then stay with her, for Paradise is beneath her feet." -Abu Burdah reported: Ibn Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, watched a Yemeni man circling the House while carrying his mother on his back, saying, “I am her humble camel. If her mount is scared, I am not scared.” Then he said, “O Ibn Umar, do you think I have repaid her?” Ibn Umar said, “No, not even for a single pang of pregnancy.” All in all, Islamic teachings provide a comprehensive framework for women’s rights, emphasizing dignity, respect, and equality. However, the actual experience of these rights differs significantly based on CULTURE and SOCIETY. The ongoing discourse about women’s rights in Islam is about women seeking RIGHTS THAT ISLAM GIVES THEM BUT THE ONE'S IN POWER WITHHOLD IT FROM THEM. Women demand to be given the rights of justice and equality that are found in the religion of Islam.

I like her but religions including Islam are deeply patriarchal. Human equality is a fundamental principle we should be fighting for, not asking for 1/2 the rights as a ceiling because Islam says so! Islam relegates women to a permanent minor status needing a Mehram! This is unacceptable in the modern world.

That is incorrect. Children inherit the personal property of their parents in communism. Only means of production are controlled by society as a whole.

There is no Human rights in Pakistan it’s only between the Rich Elites and Poor Muslims. Rich people like Ismailis, Bohras, Ahmadis and Sayyeds are on the Top of the Class Level and Poor Women always suffer.

What can you say about a society or a religion that considers women as nothing more than breeders, a field to plow on, a wife among many or a sex slave to a rich Muslim man.
@Taimur_Laal

I would say that that may be the view of some men. But that is not the view contained in Islam.

@@Taimur_Laal I would respectfully disagree with you. Islam clearly states that women can be used as a field to plough, 4-wives, unlimited number of female sex slaves, less inheritance, less value of their testimony, beating allowed and the list is long. Can you lead me to scriptures and hadiths where these are forbidden? I always want others to give me facts that are contrary to what I have learned by reading the Quran 3-times with Urdu and English translation with Tafseer, once each. Always enjoy and respect your position even when I don't agree.

These Neo liberals are even quoting a Quranic verse in the wrong position. This was about the people of jahiliya. Women's rights are emphasized in our shariah but so do marriage in an Equal family so that the inheritance may divide accordingly.

@YasirKhanKhattak Күн бұрын
Your comment relies on outdated stereotypes and misunderstandings. Women are just as practical and capable as men. The idea that women in America get all property in divorce without working is a baseless myth. It's absurd to undermine women's contributions based on such generalizations. Everyone deserves fair treatment based on their efforts, not antiquated gender roles. Get your facts straight.
