This video was filmed in New Jersey at Mountain Martial Arts dojo, and produced by Goju Karate Center in California.

Actually, this is the "Ju" in Goju. Go means hard and powerful and Ju means softness.

If it's not Okinawan it's not real Kara te. This is real Kare te. I no longer train kara te, as I moved to other things after serious mechanical injury to my fist while defending a gang attack, but I appreciate the reality of Okinawan Kara te as opposed to the prevarication of Japanese Kara te. One is for combat while the other is for sport.

Very impressive flow drills and a nicley made video.
@premierdeal Жыл бұрын
This demonstrates that Karate is 'finally' returning to its source input and it's related training methods. Not sure 'flow drills' translates back into original White Crane Chinese kuen kit.

Good to see Karate returning to its roots as a legitimate in fighting self defense system. It's been watered down and sportified for far too long.

goju ryu has its roots in fujian white crane. so does wing chun as ng mui was also a crane practitioner.

GoJu Ryu and Shorin Ryu have their origins in Five Ancestor fist, which is made up of five different Kung Fu styles one of them being White Crane fist. If you watch people training in Five Ancestor Kung Fu the connection becomes obvious, has many Kata/bunki come straight from the style.

I have seen both. Maybe Nathan Johnson's work looks like Taira Masaji's work. Please remember, Nathan Johnson studied with Nagamine. There are several other Okinawan masters who employ the same principles. In the end, karate is karate.
@GKCgoju11 жыл бұрын
Simon, I don't know Johnson Sensei's work. What do you see as the main similarities?

I know your suppose to be trolling but hey i'll bite. lol Grandmaster of Goju ryu Mario Higaonna's son, Eric (hurricane)Higaonna fights in MMA and has a record of 8 wins and 3 losses with one no contest.

i see a lot of white crane similarities albeit the techniques displayed here seem to be "hard" in nature and less of the "soft" quality if white crane

@GKCgoju9 жыл бұрын
+ittokaos "day one stuff" Are you sure?
@ittokaos9 жыл бұрын
+GKCgoju most of it yes but then again I was taught how to fight. all is pretty basic in kung fu. not to devalue it in any way but certainly not anything remarkably innovative. I was under the impression that karate already had it.
@GKCgoju9 жыл бұрын
+ittokaos do you have any video of yourself doing some of these drills, I would be interested to learn.

Imitation hands technique from Wing Chun kungfu, because karate is 0,0 % from kungfu.

Wing Chun has different history.
@Davidtechguy10 жыл бұрын
Sounds like Patrick is watching too many Ip Man movies. Goju Ryu historically has Chinese influence, but not directly by wing chun. Perhaps Wingchun is influenced by the same thing as Goju Ryu
