I love the sound effects in this game. Sounds like one of my modular synth jam sessions 😅

This game QIX was my favourite! Very unique for that time: 1981.

I played this game, and it is difficult.. You are doing a great job on it. The game absolutely was a lot of fun to try to beat. Thanks for sharing!! hehe

Zoo Keeper has an extra ROM board. With that board and some minor changes to the PCB you can convert a QIX board to a Zoo Keeper.

I had this game on the original Gameboy. I always did the split strategy with the slow draw. In the gameboy version you travel to different countries depending on how well you do. Nice review.

I played it on Gameboy too. The Qix is much slower there, but it gets quicker every lvl. It was much fun, i think i try the 81 arcade version.

First time I saw this game, someone else was playing it. I was hoping to get a chance to play, but he had a pocket full of quarters, and would not get off of the machine! Later when I got the NES, I recalled the game and went to the Game store to see if they had it for Nintendo. They had a used one for $10 and I snapped it up. To make playing on the NES easier, I also bought the NES Advantage controller, which has a joystick. After several weeks I was so good at the game that I was maxing out the points and turning it over! I went back to the arcade and racked up on the points, maxing the machine out using just the original two quarters I started with. As the Arcade had a prize for anyone that could max out the points on any machine, I won the prize; a fifty dollar GC for use in the arcade. They kicked me out when I had maxed a few other games out too.

I am wondering, if someone tries putting zoo keeper roms into the Qix board, would it play Zoo Keeper at all (the screen flipped, etc.)?

I pronounce it "Kicks", but you may be right. So that's two titles we aren't sure of, the first one being Taito.

Now this brings back some memories... Played this one a lot at a local cafeteria, I was around 9 years old I think :-) They also had an Amidar cabinet, a Konami game somewhat in the same vein as you also need to "fill in" the level.

I'd like to mention, there was a pseudo-sequel called Tournament Qix, which has an alternative color scheme for the enclosed areas, and if you secure 90% at the end of the level, alongside the bonus points, you'll also obtain an extra life.
@-Error9910 ай бұрын
I always try to catch the QIX into the smallest space possible covering the least amount of area, then close it with the small move getting 99% coverage which gives you a bonus

When traveling on the carnival in the early 80's the Arcade owner of the Midway would open this game and ring up unlimited games for us after hours. My traveling Joinie and I would play until the blisters would bleed with or without bandages. We got pretty damn good at this and the addiction was almost like drugs. The game would increase in intensity with every level you move up. No arcade game has come close to what QIX had. Never know where you might find one set up ready to play. Ready to break the ice by dinging a mark for a yard. You know!!

I remember playing a table top version at a bar called The Monestary in central Phoenix during my 80s days at ASU. couple tips playing, just thin lines drawn up frm the start almost 2 the top (leave 2 in ) next, draw 2 small boxes frm where the fuses come out frm (they go around stuck inside), continue drawing thin vertical lines (# of boxes) bottom2almost the top ( 2-4 mm thick) n high point color ) bottom2top, the QIX just ended stuck in a corner but I got more playing time from my quarter.

@ClassicTVMan1981X4 жыл бұрын
I knew that one all the time... since reading the issue of Nintendo Power that did a feature on the Game Boy version; the US promotional flyer for the arcade version also uses this pronunciation. However, in Japan, it is pronounced as you said it throughout this video (Romaji: Kuikkusu).
