Wow, what a great ride! The cycling in Taiwan is amazing and this was a great way to end our cycling trip here. Thuong almost died in the mountains, but now she's telling me in hindsight that this was her favorite day from the trip I learned a valuable lesson though, wife does not like climbing in the heat... 😅 😅 😅

Can I ask you what you use for sun protection? You have a white skin just like me, I guess I would have to ride with thick and annoying layers of sun cream in Taiwan...

Usually stock up from the US with sports sunscreen

You should rent an ebike for your wife. Giant offered ebike rental survice for general customers. As long as she rided an ebike, she should enjoy the trip more and level up a pro cyclist like u while climbing. Great vlog!

Has anyone noticed that Thuong looks totally exhausted? I've noticed! the other thing I've observed is her cadence on the steep hot climbs is way to slow! She needs a granny gear so she can "Spin"! The other add on could be 250w e-motor with torque sensor just for the steeps! It's not cheating...I'm 70 and have Hydrocephalus and I'd be house bound without e back-up.

What a beautiful country. I would so like to visit there, although riding up those steep climbs in hot and humid weather, I need to think more on that one 😁, but it would be worth it. I have to hand it to Thuong. What a trouper!! Even though she was tired in the morning before leaving, she made it all the way. Such a strong rider!! You found a nice friend in Quinn. Really nice guy. Eating chitlins? There is absolutely NO way I will eat that. I would have to be starving to death first, and even then 🤔. By the way, I've been meaning to ask you. Being out in the sun so long having fair skin, what sunscreen do you use? I assume you use some. Much mahalo for a great video. .

Wow, what an awesome trip that must have been! I'm adding Taiwan to my "must see" cycling destinations. I did feel a bit sorry for Thuong so it was good to see her smiling again in the last few shots at the night market. I think she's very brave! One question, does Thuong understand English? Quinn doesn't speak Japanese does he?
@TwoWheelCruise6 жыл бұрын
It's a great place to ride! Thuong was all smiles after the food came out haha. She knows a few English words, and Quinn knows a few Japanese words. I was translating a bit, but they would communicate by gestures as well.

I think your wife deserves and electric bike for days like this. ;) We stayed in Ruifang last year when we were in Taiwan to climb at the Long Dong cliffs. Definitely some cool markets and good food there, although my favorite food was a pizza stall run by Canadians 😂
@TwoWheelCruise6 жыл бұрын
An E-Bike!?!? I don't think I could look at her the same way again lol But actually probably not a bad idea to make the rides more enjoyable for both of us.. It's hard to beat some good pizza... though nothing beats a sushi boat ;)

When you raced and i raced our back pockets were full of snacks do the same with Thuong she could make a racer ,her left leg wanders a bit her right leg is great ,keep her going away from big climbs to start with though don't discourage her so early on she just needs miles ,i think she could be great.PD

I'm from Taiwan. Its just my little knowledge about the horses you mentioned. It's been said that there were floods that killed villagers there every now and then. People happened to build a temple for Phra Phorm(budda with 4 faces facing different directions) and after that the flood regressed and people have been in well-being ever since then. Now people would worship Phra Phrom and ask for happiness and goodness, so they usually tie the " Red Lucky Ribbons" on the trees. My assumption is that there is no more room for ribbons to be tied. Some people might just tie them on those animals like horses, elephants anyhow...
@Colinke6 жыл бұрын
Just here to clarify that actually 宮崎駿 already claimed that he had never been there nor did he came up the idea for "Spirited Away" due to 九份. Most the referenced scenario he considered and put them on the anime were from Tokyo. The most well known one is 湯屋 called 子宝湯.
@TwoWheelCruise6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the info, that's pretty interesting! I've heard that Miyazaki has discredited Jiufen as the inspiration location, but that idea is still HEAVILY promoted through the Japanese tourism industry. Every Taiwan tourism pamphlet in Japanese is bombarded with Spirited Away stuff.. Either way though, still a great place to come and visit :)

Beautiful ride - and sufferfest of note it seems, but pleasure in pain sometimes, as most cyclists will attest. Given the choice I would rather take the heat than the rain, especially if there is a sunset involved. Guess you didn't get much choice in terms of cassettes on those rent bikes, with Thoung pedaling squares at times ... you should tell her about the zig zag technique which I often deploy on my road bike when the gradients get mean.
@TwoWheelCruise6 жыл бұрын
yeah, the cassettes were not the best for climbing. Thuong has a bad habit of pedal mashing though, rather than spinning, and will often push a harder gear. I don't think she's in the "pleasure in pain" mindset though haha
@Kosmonooit6 жыл бұрын
Each to the their own I guess but I am used to high cadence from mtb and take more strain on a road machine with less options, although being tad overweight certainly does not help the situation :o
