I’m so glad I found this vlog! I am bound to Taichung in December. I’ll be spending three days there, straight from Taoyuan airport before heading to Taipei for another three days. My initial plan was to just chill around the city until I decided to check on any day tour packages in KKday and Klook from Taichung city. I found that there’s Sun Moon Lake etc but since their minimum required to join the tour is 2 persons, I decided to just do a DIY and this is the perfect vlog to watch! You captured all the details I need to know. So thank you!

It is easy to walk anyway. But, since the lake is big, and has many attractions places to visit, I recommend you rent a bicycle. The distance between the main bus stop (Shuishe) and the Shuishe Pier is about 300 meters (5-minute walk).

Thanks for this informative video! I was planning to allot a day to Sun Moon Lake and stay in Taipei for the whole 5 day trip. But now I’m thinking of staying in Taichung/Sun Moon Lake for at least 2 days. Do you think I can explore Sun Moon Lake in a day tour? Or it’s recommended to stay for at least 1 night?

A day tour is enough for a solo traveler for Sun Moon Lake. But you can spend the night there if you don't want to rush back to the bus station to go back to the city as I had to. Anyway, you should stay in Taichung City for at least one or two nights and explore the night markets and temples.

There are many bike rentals near SML. I remember I had to give my passport to the shop. By the way, renting bikes in other parts of Taiwan was easier; you did not even need to show a passport in Chishang & Guanshan.

The nearest bus stop to the hotel is called "Mei Rong Pharmacy". I took a bus from THSR Taichung Station and got off at the bus stop which is about 130 meters from Kgold Hotel.

Yes, they have. I recommend you buy a round ticket which is cheaper than buying separately. But for me, I didn't. Because from Wenwu temple, I walked about 15 mins to Huanhu Rd. Intersection bus stop and take the bus back to Taichung City. All the buses departing from Shuishe Pier will need to pass the bus stop, anyway.

Yes, they have the buses everyday. The last bus from Sun Moon Lake is around 6.30PM which I have taken. For the last departure from Taichung city, it is 7.45PM according to the schedule found at the bus stop.

The bus station's name is "Taichung Station (Minzu Rd. Intersection)". You can find it on Google Maps. Please note that I took the bus from Taichung TRA railway station in the city. You can also take the bus from (THSR) Taichung high-speed railway station if you don't plan to stay in the city.

It is called "Taiwan Tourist Shuttle Sun Moon Lake Line." It is a public bus no need to book in advance. I paid around 150 TWD (~5 USD) with Easy Card.

I am not sure about this. But in Taiwan, they have luggage lockers in most tourist sites and transportation hubs. You can contact Shuishe Visitor Centre for help.
