Taiwan Talks

Күн бұрын

The U.S.-made Typhon missile launcher is a weapon not before seen in the Indo-Pacific, and the U.S. Army is calling its arrival in the Philippines a landmark in regional capacity. Analysts say its presence sends a signal the U.S. can put offensive weaponry well within striking distance of Chinese installations in the South China Sea, China proper and along the Taiwan Strait. Beijing says it increases “misjudgment and miscalculation” and that Washington is seeking a “unilateral advantage.”

Sherwin E. Ona

What's the difference what china is doing? They build military bases in the islands that belong to the Philippines. They also have installed missiles and runways. They illegally occupied those islands that are legally belong to the Philippines. So we also have the right to put up defenses facing enemy who are threatening our way of life and our teritory.

The only ones who are threatened by these defense weaponry are the ones who have ill intentions in the region. These are not meant for attacking but rather defending for what's about to come. China says one thing but doing another, just like when they said they are building stuff on the reefs of the WPS now full blown military bases. Who wouldn't think twice to putting up missile systems when your not so friendly far-away neighbor sprays your ships with water cannons, places guns, missiles, ships and aircraft in your front yard? ohh. btw, we can't even go in our frontyard as our neighbor is claiming it as their own even when their house is so far away. Just because we are not that capable does not mean you can bully us, we got a big brother and friends that are helping us. We are not alone!

It was good to hear Gen. Lee use a contemporary name, West Philippines Sea, which acknowledges the UNCLOS ruling. The next step is to come to an understanding re-contested Islands and reject the Nine-Ten or Eleven Dash Line fables, derived from the ROC days. Relatedly, allies of Taiwan should make overtures to establish shared garrisons on contested islands as a way to begin integration of defense protocols with Taiwan.
@jenuelarceo6030
@jenuelarceo6030 4 ай бұрын
As a Filipino, I am very sure that when taiwan gets attacked, there is a very high chance that philippines will aid taiwan. But of course allies will not overtly say that just to maintain the strategical ambiguity. It is also in the interest of the Philippines to aid taiwan and to maintain its independence and sovereignity. Since taiwan has good relations with The Philippines, majority of filipinos can be persuaded to help them in conflict.

In that crucial time you should be prepared for the worst possible case, look what happened to the Ukraine
@jenuelarceo6030
@jenuelarceo6030 4 ай бұрын
@@superduper3130 Ukraine's situation is very different. If another country tries to invade our country, Filipinos will not fight alone in this war, Combined military forces of countries such as Japan, Australia, South Korea and United States of America will make the invasion close to impossible. That is why military cooperation in the countries at the pacific is essential for war deterrence. Mutual defense treaty will be also be activated if military vessels, ordnances, personnels and civilians are harmed in any way. Which means combined ground, air and sea from our allies will come here not just ordnance support. Ukraine on the other hand has no mutual defense treaty and is not a member of NATO that is why Russia doesn't think twice in attacking Ukraine. By the way, though China is vastly superior in technologies and in numbers, Philippines have a lot of battle hardened troopers, professionally trained in different warfare scenarios. This country is always in a constant strife due to imperialism, colonialism, extremism and ideologies that often result in battles. So China has to have think twice if they want to take that risk.
@jenuelarceo6030
@jenuelarceo6030 4 ай бұрын
@@maplered5351To invade Taiwan and to dominate the pacific, China has to get rid of the US bases in the Philippines so if Taiwan gets attacked, Philippines will be attacked also. Chinese government knows that it will take a lot of resources to do that. It will cause them a pyrrhic victory even if they successfully invaded Taiwan. China interests must be to make Philippines neutral in Taiwan issue so that it will limit the options for the Allies in aiding Taiwan but since the Chinese government's illegal and forced incursion in the South China sea, their belligerent actions gathers a strong ire in the Philippines, so our government agreed to strike a deal with US in their own terms to let US create military bases here. So if I were the Chinese government, they should be more diplomatic with a touch of cordiality and appeasement in dealing with the Philippines because the more they display their belligerence, the more it will be difficult to the Chinese government to incorporate Taiwan into their territory.

Historically, Philippine forces employ unconventional strategies, e.g. Korean War, more recently Golan Heights. This was developed because Filipinos are usually at a disadvantage in terms of force and weaponry, from fighting with Spain, America, Japan and local insurgencies, "improvising" is an unspoken rule and its successes show results. They may be wiped out, but they'll take 100 enemies with each man lost. Also check out the Battle of Yultong , Hill Erie, Corregidor, and the Battle of La Naval, etc.

THE FATHER OF ALL MAPS OF THE PHILIPPINES - The Murillo Velarde Map 1734 This magnificent map of the Philippine archipelago, drawn by the Jesuit Father Pedro Murillo Velarde (1696--1753) and published in Manila in 1734, is the first and most important scientific map of the Philippines. The Philippines were at that time a vital part of the Spanish Empire, and the map shows the maritime routes from Manila to Spain and to New Spain (Mexico and other Spanish territory in the New World), with captions. In the upper margin stands a great cartouche with the title of the map, crowned by the Spanish royal coat of arms flanked each side by an angel with a trumpet, from which an inscription unfurls. The map is not only of great interest from the geographic point of view, but also as an ethnographic document. It is flanked by twelve engravings, six on each side, eight of which depict different ethnic groups living in the archipelago and four of which are cartographic descriptions of particular cities or islands. According to the labels, the engravings on the left show: Sangleyes (Chinese Philippinos) or Chinese; Kaffirs (a derogatory term for non-Muslims), a Camarin (from the Manila area), and a Lascar (from the Indian subcontinent, a British Raj term); mestizos, a Mardica (of Portuguese extraction), and a Japanese; and two local maps--one of Samboagan (a city on Mindanao), and the other of the port of Cavite. On the right side are: various people in typical dress; three men seated, an Armenian, a Mughal, and a Malabar (from an Indian textile city); an urban scene with various peoples; a rural scene with representations of domestic and wild animals; a map of the island of Guajan (meaning Guam); and a map of Manila

China committed a grave miscalculation and misjudgment when it violated the rules-based global order by illegally and unilaterally asserting its Nine-Dash Line claim in the South China Sea. China is reaping the consequences of its rogue posture in the international waters of the South China Sea and the neighboring exclusive economic zone of nations in the region. China is behaving in primitive medieval geopolitics in a world that has already evolved to a higher level of international cooperation and understanding. China has resorted to bad-faith diplomacy and gaslighting, while its armed forces attempted to establish control of a huge area of neutral territory in the South China Sea. China needs to gain back the respect of the international community. It needs to submit to the ruling of the International Court of Arbitration in the Hague and abide by international law such as UNCLOS.

The main reason why they imposed the 10 dash line is because of the Malacca Straight, they wanted to secure the region. They wanted to close the gap between that area coz without that, they will be the next Japan to get cut off from world trade. If only Indonesia and the rest of the region have the balls. IT IS THE WEAKEST LINK OF CHINA.

it was only for Balikatan; the Typhon Missile Launcher won't be permanently installed in the Philippines as it is not allowed in the Filipino laws. All the EDCA sites are just temporary sites where the US can rotate its troops and equipment.

yeah they must as most of Filipinos willing to fight China if war break., when it comes to Taiwan issue as soon as there is enough defense in the Philippines , its easy to reinforce Taiwan. If China wait 10 - 20 years its impossible for them to invade Taiwan , aside from their problem is the JAPAN who are switching to offensive military capability.

The US is really concerned about the PRC CCP's scale of aggression towards the Philippines. PRC's propensity to nibble away at proximate Islands, and their flagrant disregarding the UNCLOS Ruling is the first concern. PRC is looking for PLAN bases all along the First and Second Island Chain. They won't blockade Taiwan until they have Naval and Air bases throughout, as they are building in Cambodia and had hope to in the Solomons. They need to have strategic assets to counter Japanese, American and other assets that have free movement and control from the Pacific between the Second and First Island Chains. The space between the First and Second Island Chain would be the actual logistical battle space.
