Taiwan BBQ | Street Food Taiwan | Aboriginal Taiwanese Food
Joystour - service@joystour.com
On our second day of our East Coast of Taiwan Food Tour we stopped at several spots! First we made HOMEMADE mochi by pounding the rice that was steamed directly over a wood fire! We ate several aboriginal Taiwanese dishes including a MASSIVE fish BBQ and a stone cooked hotpot!
Stay tuned for more videos from our east coast tour and let me know what you thought of this episode in the comment section!

Luke Martin i think that cat is definitely pooping in that rice and was annoyed with you that your filming him while he is doing his business. Love your channel I'm a new subscriber. I learn a lot from your vlogs. Have fun in South Korea.

I envy you Luke. It's a lot of journey and experience you're having there. You are getting more and more experienced.. I was a pleasure to watch it. But, I must say I don't like the hot-stone-cooked fish soup, it should taste like dirt and ash :)

I lived in Taiwan as a very young child for several years when my father was stationed there and your videos reminds me of so many good times we had there. Occasionally my parents would take on weekend field trips into the mountains to visit some of the native Taiwanese villages where the "cannibals" use to live. However we spent much more time around the coastal areas because my father use to catch and collect tropical salt water fish from the local waters. Not sure if this is still allowed in Taiwan now but back then it was perfectly legal to do so. Thanks for sharing Luke and just maybe my wife and I will take a long overdue vacation to Taiwan to relive my childhood experiences thanks to your videos.

Wow Luke Well Done !!!! This is truly a phenomenal tour video !!! In fact I have to say it was probably one of your best to date for me. The excellent education value in this video is outstanding. You just took us on a National Geographic Food Tour. I was truly and completely mesmerized with the entire video. The aerial images of such a beautiful stunning place bring your tour to a NEW UNIQUE LEVEL. Luke your food tours represent a truly interesting and unique representation of a very unique style of worldly cuisine. The food looked delicious and I loved learning about the preparation and origins of the food. Thank You So Much !!!

Luke your ariell footage is a great attribute to your tours. It gives an amazing perspective to the understanding of the origins of the food. The technique of using the drone to generate these incredible images is just brilliant ! You are clearly in a serious category to be highly respected for your true dedication to deliver difficult food tours. The ariell geographic images tie the tour together to create an amazing visual learning experience. I hope it's possible for you to continue to integrate the drone images. A big thanks to sponsors like " Joys Tour " for helping make this tour happen.

Nowadays we made mochi here in the USA using the bread making machine instead of the trading way as seen here. It's also great if you let it cool, cut it to strips, deep fry or pan fry it until golden then dash it with little salt is also another way of eating mochi. You can also bake it till golden brown and dip it in syrup or honey too.

"Mochi" is a Japanese word that is "you" in Chinese and "aidi" in Korean. Pounded rice cakes are part of many Asian culinary cultures. When I was a kid, my extended family pounded mochi every New Year. The basic technique is the same as used by aboriginal Taiwanese but the instruments differ. We used wooden mallets with handles and the rice was pounded in a basalt stone vessel. Two men pounded and one pulled the dough to the center. The women rolled the dough into individual round, flat cakes, some plain, some containing sweetened red bean paste. Most were white but some were red (food coloring) and the green ones were colored with mizuna (field mustard). My grandfather placed a small mound of salt in each corner of the fire to keep away demons and evil spirits. He threw some at me, and I suspect he had doubts about my character. What this demonstrates is that virtually all cuisine is fusion, few foods are indigenous and unique to any nation or people.
