Tak 2 was the first game I owned on the GameCube and I still believe it’s one of the best games ever made. The art style and music alone make it extremely memorable. I remember collecting all the extras so I could see the concept art and hear more of the music. Great times

This is some quality content. Well-presented and on a series that doesn't get much attention anymore. Well done!

6:17 And THAT is why art direction will always be better than graphical quality. Having a unique style and feel helps a game stand the test of time. It’s why both this and Psychonauts on PS2 will always look leagues better than any current Call of Duty, and I will die on that hill!

That was interesting. Hopefully THQ Nordic remake these games. You mentioned feeling old talking about manuals. Well, I remember playing a little bit of one of them at a McDonald’s play place when I was little. I also played Star Fox Adventures in the waiting room of a dentist’s office once. Remember when places did that back in the day? The music you showed off was pretty. In a way it reminded me of Star Fox Adventures because of the tribal/ancient feeling (speaking of Star Fox there’s this really cool fan game being made by UndyingNephalim called Star Fox Event Horizon that’s a remake of the 64 continuity. It’s a mod for Freespace Open, which is an open source game so it’s free. The guy has done and INSANE amount of work. He even got in contact with the lady who played Krystal back in the day and she’s going to do voice work for his mod. There’s this other fan game being made by Esphirian that’s a reimagining of Adventures. I’ve talked with the guy in the comments of his videos and he has some pretty cool ideas for the lore/story. You should check both of them out). The tribal aesthetic is one of my favorites because it feels alien and ancient conpared to the modern world. I wish that was used in far more settings. My thoughts on reused assets are that it’s perfectly fine just as long as they hold up in quality, and actually fit in the game. If they’re dated or don’t work with everything else then they should be replaced. Same goes for enemies that are functionally identical to ones from previous games. Plus, like you said it makes the dev’s lives a lot easier. Good video. It will be interesting to see what other niche/forgotten titles you cover.

Bro i could go on and on about this series from the voice acting, story, which like u said is not ALL that great but it is satisfying for what it does have to offer. Just Bringing the special dynamic of all the characters together really is something amazing. My first playthrough of Tak was on the GBA version then i got Tak 2 on GC like a year later. I still go through and casually playthrough them every few years. Third game is nice too just really short imo. All the music is fantastic.

Tak and the power of juju was surprisingly the first game I had played. It has been well over a decade since I've played them and watching this video makes me want to replay them. I also found something that Tak and your channel have in common. They both aren't talked about enough.

This is very well made and well paced. Bravo man. You've definitely given me some food for thought for my own Tak video I'm working on. Glad you included the manual in your footage. I lost all of mine and struggle to find it online.

Man i remember playing all 3 on my gamecube back then. Tak is for sure a game worth experiencing if anyone reading this haven't already. Also something a little off topic but man i hated when there wasn't any manual book or something related to the game in the CD case when you buy it at gamestop 😂 i always liked them

I had the first 2 games on gamecube as a kid and would play the 3rd with my brother on my uncle's PS2. I still have my original copy of Tak 1 to this day, which is surprising because not many physical games survived that part of my life, lmao. It's wild to see Nickelodeon attempted at making a video game from scratch, rather than basing it off of a pre-existing show. They did good and I kind of wish they did this kind of thing more, because the Tak series is a niche hidden gem of a series.

I loved these games as a kid and I remember being so hyped for the tv show. But of course we all know how that turned out. I revisited these games a little while ago and I actually found myself stopping and just admiring the scenery. I love how the skybox and the distant scenery are literally just artwork. It’s like you’re literally walking around inside beautiful paintings in all three of these games. Still waiting for thq Nordic to do something with tak. So far I think they’ve only done stuff for SpongeBob and that’s literally it.

Man, something I've always wanted to do was learn how to boundary break and look at file names and shit for these games. I played them in reverse order (Juju Challenge > Staff of Dreams > Power of Juju), and i always HATED those creatures that were part of the skybox in Gates of Nocturne/the nightmare world. What are they?? I wrote the artist once asking and never got a reply :') One of my favorite things about Tak was the implication of all these wildly varying locations with tribal artifacts, especially all the ones you see in the third and second games. There was flavortext for the Wanderlands at one point saying that it's a place where people go and get stuck forever. What was the culture that used to exist in the Parchlands, the Temple of Light, the Deepwoods? Like in universe what was the purpose of it all? I always loved theorizing as a kid, bc it felt so vacant- but it had clearly been built with purpose! I have fond memories of trying to draw a map encapsulating each level and seeing how they knotted together into a big landscape- its probably long since trash now but still! I hope we can get full res of the skyboxes and such one day, I love the art style so much!

I feel like liking Mario 3D world more than Mario 64 shouldn’t be a hot take. Mario 64 is one of the most important video games ever made and I respect it for that but it has not aged well. 3D world just feels like the much better game. My only complaints with 3D world is that it takes place outside of the mushroom kingdom but none of the levels actually feel like you’re in a different place. I feel like there’s a lot of missed potential there. Also most of the bosses suck better than that, It’s a great game.
