I think the Japanese BBQ, yakiniku, is one of my favourite things. But everything else was amazing too. It is a top spot.

Plenty to enjoy in this video. You were very lucky to witness the purification ceremony. I love encountering events like that. The gorge and waterfall were really enjoyable. Stuck at home for a few days so can try again again.

Yes we were lucky. We could here things happening in the distance for much of the morning but we didn't expect for it to come to us. Perfect timing. Thanks for watching Ivor!

My fav vid so far Shane. What an amazing trip! I hope to follow your itinerary when we visit Japan next year.

Wow, thanks Allan! Funnily enough every time I start making one of these I'm less than confident it will work out. So thank you! I hope you have a great time in Japan. I am sure you will though. If you've never been don't be put off going to the well known touristy places like Kyoto and Tokyo. Some spots can get reasonably crowded but they are still worth visiting. You can then balance it with some of the lesser visited places. Although for the next year or two the tourist may take a while to come back. Let me know if you have any questions. I am in no way an expert but we have been a few times and been to a few more places not on this last trip we did. 😀

Hi Juan! Great to hear from you again. Apparently they're easing some restrictions but still not enough for us more independent travellers. Hopefully by next year though. 😀

@@ShaneNixonFamily yeah! Exactly... I can't handle a group tour lol how long was this trip that you had?

@@JuanAndYuka I think this last one was around 28 days. I only have to do the Nagasaki, Kobe and Tokyo videos now. Yes we drove from Nagasaki to Kobe - about 8 hours drive 😂

To think that Japan has infrastructure for electric Cars and you can get around easily, and we are so behind 😤 The Manai Falls are beautiful 😍 Your lunch sounded delicious 😋 as was those ice creams. Lovely pond and the gorge views, wow! I hate crowds Shane, sometimes you have no choice. Another wonderful adventure in Japan 🇯🇵 Have a great Sunday. Beautiful sunny day.

Thanks Joseph! Takachiho is an amazing place. The whole island of Kyushu is spectacular. Island makes it seem small but it is about 2/3 the size of Tassie so it has some pretty long long drives. It is one of those place we'd love to go back to but I reckon the north beckons next time. Who knows? We're not going anywhere in a hurry for the next year anyway I suspect. Just enjoy the sunshine on days like today. Which reminds me I have to mow the back yard 🤣

Watching this now….so running commentary coming. First off, random remark but love the colour of your video, especially the opening. Those vending machines look interesting!! Stinky!!!!! 😂💩 interesting to see the amount of electric car charging points. They really are little oranges!!! Now that’s a strange bath and beds on the floor but the views are pretty damn amazing. If we ever go there, we’ll be looking for those big cows!! Rach is digging the cook the meat yourself, I’m not so sure…bit fussy when it comes to steak. Beautiful water spot, and music too. We have water falls by the way 😂. Come on, what’s a Dango then? Oh Rach just Googled it. Loving the bells and drums, would love to record that, freaky masks though.some great shots of that shrine. Crap rowing!!! Beautiful gorge and waterfall, even with the tourists….dodgems in boats, excellent! Watch your f****n’ language!!! So you have to catch your noodles before you can eat them? But weird! Now you know we love an ice cream, they looked good. Strange fish!! Vestel Sturgeon?….obviously!! 8 million gods in that area talking about dropping rocks?…not sure about that one. Marathon festival? We’d give that a miss, we walk…or waddle even, but the food looks pretty damn good. Hungry now. Ok, fair play, we really enjoyed that a lot….so 7 days till the next one? Seriously though, top video!!! 🍻

Oh wow. You did watch it all. That is amazing. Thank you. I shall now respond to every point.... Not really. I won't put you through that. I shoot in log format so I have to "fix" the colour, exposure and stuff. It is a bit of pain but it can be worth it. Lumix cams shoot with a magenta tinge for example. Sometimes (often) I get it wrong but it occasionally works out well. There are some over or under exposed shots that can't usually be used except log allows you to save it. I mostly stuff up the white balance - that is why many night time indoor shots look so shite, even after I've "fixed" it. Fixing all that takes extra time - maybe a couple of hours extra. So thank you. Futons on the floor at many ryokans. They are so comfortable though. The tatami mat floors give a little extra comfort. The high end places roll them out for you in the evening and roll them up the next day. Cheaper places let you do it. We saw the oranges and asked "what are they called?" She said they are called "little oranges". 😂 Don't get me started about wagyu beef (sometimes called Kobe in the rest of the world). Very expensive - sometimes $500 kg. Very heavily marbleised - so fatty. Soft as butter. Very tasty. Nothing like it. Sometimes they feed the cows beer and sweets. There is a farm here in Oz that feeds their wagyu sweets and chocolates (in the usual cow feed). We are about the only place outside of Japan that grows 100% full blood wagyu. We can also get the Miyazaki beef (every region has their own variety of wagyu) here but it is the $450 kg variety. In Takachiho Miyazaki was the local stuff so comparably cheap. That meal cost us about $100 for all us. You have to try the wagyu in Japan at least once. Yakiniku (bbq) like this is he cheapest option but there are specialist steak places that will cook it for you. Damn, I started. Thank google, but yeah, dango is made from rice flour and mochi from whole rice. Both delicious and very similar though. Absolute fluke we were there for the parade. We'd heard explosion all morning and wondered what it was. Then they showed up. You would have made a sensational recording. If any I have is useful to you you are welcome to it - recorded with rode mic on the camera so nothing special though quality wise. I tried editing a lot last night but there were so many rocks I kept nodding off. But we will have cows and volcanoes! Thank you for watching all that. I really do appreciate you going through that and then with the fantastic comments! Thanks Rach and Wills!!! PS Ice cream on the whole is sensational. We've had some wacky flavours (soy sauce, tofu) and some amazing traditional (green tea, cherry blossom, black sesame) but there ain't anything wrong with the old standards either.🍦🍦🍦
