I bought a Juki TL2200QVP Mini from Echidna Sewing after watching this video. I had done some background research and decided on the Juki because of its reputation for quality and everyone seems to love it. I'm a total beginner. My first use of the Juki was to bind a handmade queen-sized quilt that took me years to piece and quilt. The binding came out really well. I love that I could slow the machine way down. I know I will still love it when I'm much more skilled (and faster). My next quilt will be 100% sewn on the machine. This video was very helpful in getting me started. Thank you (and thanks to the camera guy - the close-in shots with Gary using the tweezers were hugely helpful in threading the bobbin and the needle).

Thank you, Gary for the wonderful tutorial. I just got a new Juki TL-2010Q and have been watching some videos to get more familiar with my new machine. I want to do some more practice stitching before I fully change over from my Janome DC2019. I have a pretty simple quilt pattern, fabric, and thread ready to start this new project once I finish the 2 projects I am working on right now. I clearly see the knee lift is a fantastic feature. When you did your demo showing the different feet that is supposed to come with the machine there were several that did not come with my machine. I ordered a Juki/4 inch foot from Primitive Gatherings for my piecing. Once I get going on the new machine I'm sure I'm going to love it! Thanks again! Roxy in Hudson, WI

Thank you Gary for showing the step-by-step process. I am trying to decide which quilting machine to buy. I've become good quilting with my Singer Quilt Confidence machine and am looking to step my game up. The only thing I was worried about was trying to adjust tension from top or by the bobbin case - I was excited 15 years ago when the top-loading bobbins came in because I really could just drop it in and the machine fine-tuned it for me. I had an awful time when I first started to try to learn to use a sewing machine - that was 40 years ago, and I think I might be able to handle adjusting on either top or bottom now. I want a workhorse that is pretty much all metal and no digital displays. I have narrowed it down to this machine or the Brother Jazz 2, and I think you just sold me on the Juki. Have a good week, my condolences to all affected by Queen Elizabeth's passing.

I bought this machine to quilt with 2 years ago- at first, i loved it. But no longer. Two things to keep in mind- first, the needle threader is terrible. It is super finicky, and rarely works. I had to buy a separate needle threader to do it the old fashioned way. I was surprised by how poorly designed it is. I have a Baby Lock (10 years now) and that needle threader is top-notch. It never fails and is super easy. Second- the tension is a nightmare. Every new project is an hour or more trying to fix tension. New needles, different thread (it does not work well with 100 weight thread for quilting), flannel backing on a quilt- it’s awful. If you are ok with the tension issue, and don’t mind struggling with that, and your eyesight makes threading the needle do-able the old fashioned way, it is otherwise a good machine. But if I had it to do again- I’d pass.
@EchidnaClub
@EchidnaClub Жыл бұрын
Hi Joanne, thank you for your feedback. With the needle threader, were you trying to thread heavier weight thread with it as they are designed to be used with normal weight domestic sewing thread and not the heavier weight thread with a size 80 or 90 needle. If you are having issues with it, we can have a look at it for you and see if we can resolve the issue for you. With the tensioning issues, sorry to hear you are finding it frustrating. The tensioning system on this machine does adjusted everytime if you are using different weights of thread. We do recommend having a bobbin case set to each thread weight to make it easier to be interchangeable. As it is a manual machine, the re tensioning is a consistent thing that does need to be adjusted by the user. This is true of most straight stitch machines. If you would like to have a chat with us about the machine, we would love to help you resolve these issues.

Hello my 2010 is wonderful. I have never had an issue with tension. Can seem to get it first pop. Tiny increments. Also the needle threader works every time. One very important hint is to set the needle at the right height by touching that needle up, down button a few times. Gary mentions that in the video. Maybe you haven’t been doing this Joanne. I am very sorry you are unhappy with it. Not me. I use mine every day. I am a quilter and machine embroider. And it is one of my 6 machines.
@joannedifrancesco4555
@joannedifrancesco4555 Жыл бұрын
@@dorsetboronia6744 I guess I’m the odd one out. I mostly use Aurifil 50 wt thread. The tension Can go off with the same thread on new projects. I only use the machine for quilting. The threader worked at first but now it never works. Likely I need a repair. But it is poor quality to begin with. I like the idea of a bobbin case for each thread weight. I will definitely try that. Thanks for the suggestions.

sewing clothes: dont need quiltytastic stuff, just hardwearing machinery that does more than just blummin straightstitch. My parents got me a Frister+Rossmann 43 years ago and even then it did straight stitch with reverse, variable zigzag, dropped feed dogs, stretch stitch, a buttonhole, tension setting, footpedal control so you can go slow or fast, bobbin winding - amazing lighting guidance footplate. I've had it serviced and had a couple of broken belts through perishing. I haven't even had to replace the thread cutter. Metal body, metal machinery. It's been a great friend. The only things against it were, difficulty on the buttonhole to make consistent, and no free arm. Can I find anything in the market to equal it? No, I can't. Stuff has plastic parts and so much whimsy crafty stitchery quiltery doodah I Just Don't Need. Or it's about the same power and quality, but ONLY does straight stitching. And what is this about 'this kind' gives you a perfect stitch? Everyone sewing wants a perfect stitch.....

@lornas-w4661 Thank you for your feedback. We understand your attachment to your well loved and used machine. Technology has become a huge part of machines now, giving them more functionality and a true straight stitch is achieveable using a straight stitch plate on machines, depends on the machine that is purchased. A lot of bag sewers do love the straight stitch machine for its strength and durability. Hopefully you find a machine that will be suitable to you!

How will this machine handle topstitching through 3mm thick faux and real leather with cardboard in between( so thickness is probably more like 5mm)? Also can you fit other attachments like fabric guide, and one that lets you stitch around curved corners? I am limited for space so definitely need a desktop version as opposed to an industrial machine on a 1200 wide table.

This was very helpful in my decision making process. However, as thick as a jeans seam is, it still doesn't represent the bulk I face when making bags/purses/wallets etc. My entry level Baby Lock machine can sew jeans but struggles with bag making. It would be nice if you were to include a demonstration using the materials; canvas, vinyl, faux leather, we use. Seam thickness and topstitching them consistently, is why I'm looking for a machine like this. Thanks so much!

@@EchidnaClub You are so kind! I'm in the US, but find your videos so informative. The number of layers isn't the only consideration for bag making. It is also the type of materials and their thickness that can be a challenge and you have a combination of them in any given seam - especially during the final construction phase. I.e. 4 layers of vinyl + 4-6 layers of lining and pockets (can be made of quilt cotton, canvas, cork, etc) + 2 or more layers of interfacing + zipper ends. Although we try to keep interfacing (especially foam, or stiff ones) out of the seam, you still end up having to sew through them when topstitching. And bags have curves and small fiddily seams. I want a powerful machine to easily go through those layers but is also good at helping me control those seams while topstitching. Phew!

I would tighten the top tension up until you can see the bobbin thread and then back off the top tension till it is more balanced. The turns on the tension dial are quite big as in a full turn to make any difference.

Don't buy from Sewingmachinesplus in Encidido Ca. Customer service is rude if you have a problem.
