My first car was a used 1975 red Datsun B210 whch I bought for $1,600 (Canadian) in 1981 (not knowing it burned oil). The funnest I had with it was occasionally driving as fast as I could thru a 2 mile park on icy roads at night. I'd be going around all those corners sideways because this was a rear- wheel drive. Sold it in 1983 or 1984 for $700. In between I had to go to the pick-a-part for a starter and transmission. Fond memories. And no photos of it.

This is my first car when i was 16 in 1980. I remember wondering who the hell designed those hideous hubcaps and it was basically a box with a heater that move. Mine had no ac and was a stick. The Kick that most people dont get nowadays. I loved that car not because it was a good car or my friends thought it was awesome. It was a milestone for me and the nostalgia behind it reminds me of the time of dodge colts, the 70s gas lines, and a whole bunch of shit i dont wanna relive. thanks for the refreshing look back into our lives

Loved this. Thank you! I had a blue 1976 Datsun B-210, bought in Albuquerque, NM. Put 170,000 miles on it and finally gave it away in 1998. During that time, it made it to 40 states, including as far as Maine (twice!). It was so much fun to drive. Nicest clutch ever. And as you point out, great mileage, too!

My grandfather bought me a Datsun 210, burnt orange, 4 door, black leather interior back in the late eighties. He bought it from a little old lady in Tennessee and it barely had any mileage on it. It was a high school graduation gift for me and I loved it! Radio wasn't that great so I had a souped-up one installed in the glove compartment. Got me through college and then I sold it to a friend's boyfriend. It was stolen from him a few months later. Thanks for sharing your video! brought back lots of great memories.

It is rusty but I'm currently patching it all and I'm gonna hotrod it with either a 4runner or a V6. but I thought since mine's blue that the engine was coloured according to the car but I guess I was wrong. lol anyways nice car.

This brings back some memories. I learned to drive back in 1981-82 in a 1976 B210 coupe, screaming yellow ("Honey Bee" yellow without the black striping). 1.4L engine and four-speed just like yours. I pulled out in front of a car in early 1983 and wrecked it, but didn't total it; my dad replaced it with a '78 510 two-door sedan. That little B210 was a super-simple, super-efficient little car. Darn shame they rusted if a piece of road salt got within a mile of them.

Kudos for keeping it running! The A-12 is a swiss watch for an engine. Plenty of space around the engine to work on it, and carbeurators is awesome, cranks up every time! And best thing, if your battery dies, you can push start the car and hop in and throw it into gear to crank it up. Done it many times.

I had one of these great little cars, in 1977 It was white with a Starkey & Hutch red stripe along the sides and roof. I often think Nissan should remake it. It's got style it's classy. It would be great now with the technology of power steering, air bags, and a few other things that we did not have back then. I have only seen two Datsun Cherry Coupe, pass me on the road. But it makes me realise just what pleasure they are. It was lovely to see this one, and the care you have taken with it. All the best Julia

Great to see a well presented B210 in 2 door notchback form - your one must be the 'muscle car' of the 210s, having the 1.4 unit - in export markets outside North America these normally had 1.2 litre engines, and were known as 120Y.

My first new car was a '76 B210 pretty much identical to this one except it was blue and had a factory radio. It was simple even for it's day - a few wrenches, a screwdriver or two and a timing light and you could easily maintain it yourself. I remember it as a solid but crude little car with a very noisy and uncomfortable interior. Today's econoboxes are limousines compared to the B210.

Last time I saw one of these I almost bought one in 1984 (on a used car lot) as my first car but it had tons of rust. I opted for a 1979 Accord Hatchback with just a little rust above the wheel wells. Rust was the #1 problem with all these original imports. I have had my Toyota Sienna since 2005-not even a hint of rust.

I had the same model of 78 B210, great little economy car. At 5'9” and 200 pounds found front seat leg room good. Seats were not made for the body size and weight of the average US citizen, more for smaller sized Asians. So I had to add a little padding in the bottom of the seat. Good thing about the seats is they lay all the way back till they touched the rear seat. This meant on a long trip, 1,000 miles, I could pull over before dawn and take a power nap. Mine like this one had the manual 4 sped transmission. The automatic transmission gave much less MPG and much less pick up and go. It had an option to come with the 5 speed transmission which improved the MPG by 10 more miles per gallon. I don't recall cruise control even being an option. They could run on the lower priced leaded fuel then in use or on unleaded fuel. The small rear trunk was actually quiet adequate. The full size spare tire set in a well in the bottom of the truck allowing more cargo space. It did have all the complex mess of emission controls of the time. But with an volt / ohm meter, vacuum gauge and service manual you could do most work yourself. Same for tune up and brakes. It's engine was known for having a long life. The knobs on the dash lite up at night due to fiber optic lines channeling light to them. Often thought of what one of these as a restomod could achieve. Adding multi port fuel injection, or even throttle body fuel injection, could improve performance and miles per gallon.

They flip over my white 81 B210 more. Because mine has a big red Japanese war flag painted on the roof, and two red japanese meatballs painted on the side, along with other Zero fighter markings. And a gunsight on the dash. You can pick my b210 out of a Walmart parking lot from a Satelite photo 100 miles away.

I bought a brand new 1975 Datsun B-210 hatchback. It was yellow. Unfortunately, it was not something to brag about. The car literally rotted away before my eyes...........rocker panels...........fender wells............it was kept in a garage also. After four years I traded it in for a Chevy Citation. The early Japanese cars were not what they are now.
