Fun fact: Han Bong-soo, the guy playing Dr. Klahn, practiced many variations of this scene by himself before finally settling on the only logical choice: Detroit. However, he was given free reign to choose the ‘punishment’ and it was not written in the script. Of course, with Han Bong-soo being a famous method actor known for taking scenes like this to the extreme, the poor guy being sentenced actually broke down and had to be physically carried off by the assistants holding him up because he 100% believed that Han Bong-soo would forsake him to such a cruel fate as Detroit, all in the name of making the film feel more “real”. Hollywood is wild man.
