Completely agree. As an introvert this hits close to home for me. I just started doing fractals a few months ago after playing for 7+ years. Jumping into something you know nothing about and fear of others shaming you is a hard thing to get past. I'm currently running T3 almost daily and still scared to try and find a group for T4, given that I have no experience in them. Sadly I've asked my guild for help with zero replies in discord...oh well, I need to just start a group on LFG and see what happens.

I appreciate this talk. I was lucky that my friend had her initiatives and dragged me to CMs and raids. Not everyone is as lucky as me. But I partially take a little jab at the community for the elitist mindset of "No KP no entry" which is still one of the worst mindset to ever exist in GW2. It really is frustrating to learn if no one is willing to teach at some time, which then only leads you to find tutors yourself, which takes time honestly.
@Rheyo4 жыл бұрын
I take my jabs too, I do understand the reasoning behind the kp listings as a concept and I use forms of KP myself (50+ was my go-to, prior to change, now i just ask for DoD/clear on 100cm), but the super high kp ratings of like 250-300 I feel is just a bit absurd. The thing I find to be very bothersome is when someone is experienced in content, but is more keen on bashing those who aren't as good as them as opposed to teaching them why they're doing wrong. Although it's prevalent in high kp groups, this isn't just a high kp mentality, this is in non-cm regular T4 groups, low kp runs, all over the place, and I feel the stigma is only put onto groups who have high kp listings. Luckily you had a friend who could take you along and get into the content though! My first few runs on Shattered Observatory was with a friend of mine, and refining it & teaching it after that took ages

Your point of taking initiative and being responsible for your own learning really applies to any skill in any environment. It's a great point and I feel it's not repeated often enough. It's easy to feel entitled and it's easy to try to do nothing, but gaining anything meaningful requires a certain amount of effort. Effort in itself shouldn't be viewed as a burden either, it's you doing something meaningful for yourself and/or others.

Agreed, just having a mindset shift works wonders.

I would even go as far as saying that when you take initiative, the game becomes for fun and enjoying to play, in general. The reasoning is you get to experience more of the MMO part from the MMORPG. I am so glad that I got to learn fractals CMs with FoTM, that I even decided to join a new guild, so I can share the knowledge to them as well, as much as I can. 2nd point, regarding failing.. I have seen this nice anagram once that F.A.I.L. stands for First Attempt In Learning! So take it easy, don't stress out and improve at your own peace!
@ascers57274 жыл бұрын
I'm still so happy to have found you and Mistlocked. It helped me not just getting my first SO+Nightmare CM kill on the training run but also helped me get over my own barrier. The week after that first training I just kept pugging the CMs until I got them done and I don't think I would have done it without the initial training and the encouragement to try it out! And months later here we are, the whole mindset change of starting things up on my own also encouraged me to tag up for all sort of end-game stuff and start my own groups way more often even after breaking the KP barrier.
@Rheyo4 жыл бұрын
My dude, not only have you learned your stuff but the amount of knowledge you share with others, and time you invest into other people is immense, and you dove right in! You've made a serious impact on the EU side of Mistlocked and I can't thank you enough!

A lot of good points, and I have experienced all of this myself. I've been playing for on and off 6 years and it wasn't until recently I told myself to suck it up and start an LFG group for fractals that I finally got to play them. I just listed something like ' chill T1, learning' or something. People start joining with 0 AR just like me right away. For meta events it's exactly the same. I don't have enough gold for a commander tag yet and I thought for a long time that nobody would follow unless I had one, but even today the south meta in Thunderhead Peaks would likely have failed if I didn't taxi people into the map through LFG. People are just sitting there, refreshing, waiting for the the right LFG group to come along. Not every single meta you do will get enough people, not every time you're looking for someone for a particular fractal will you find someone, like you said if you don't ask the answer will always be no. If you don't list your group on LFG you will never experience the content.
@Rheyo4 жыл бұрын
Man, having to taxi people, this is exactly how it used to be as well before 50 man squads. Get 1 person in your party into your instance, then split and you each post your lfg listing over and over until you have a full map. It really is just about putting your best effort forward and trying to make something work, and eventually something will work.

Excellent points. And even IF somebody does not take initiative to create groups for content, there are (at this point), so many resources for any given type of content (e.g. raids, fractals) - dedicated discords, dedicated guilds, every single guild I've seen advertise has raids/fractals in their recruitment advertisement... It almost seems the other way around to me at times - there are so many people offering this type of "service" that I don't know whom to choose.
@Rheyo4 жыл бұрын
This is another good point, because it's more than just starting your own group, but like you said there's a good amount of people offering this service, and taking the step to plug yourself into a community is a great way to get your foot in the door.

Hey Rheyo, good video, you seem to be a very nice person trying to express this thoughts in such a polite way! I feel very similar about the whole issue. And I also have same problem about being hesitant. I wish to start raiding, finally completed full ascended berserker gear for my warrior this week. I studied MightyTeapots guides for all 3 bosses in the first wing (Vale Guardian, Gorseval and Sabetha) multiple times. So gear- and knowledge-wise I feel pretty much ready, but still dont know how to entry the raiding community since it seems so elitist to me...
@Rheyo4 жыл бұрын
Hey! I appreciate it Moritello. I feel you on where you're at, that's where I was when I started fractals, but I only had the gear, I didn't do any studying on youtube/write-ups, so I'd say you're more prepared than I was in that aspect! Raids are a slightly different beast though I'll admit, Fractals are more pick-up and go on a whim than Raids are so they were easier for me to plug into. With Raids, the LFG is probably the best place to start, and by listing for your own group. If you've done your studying on mechanics, then I think that's okay to list for Semi-exp Wing 1 Clear on the LFG since you're not really going in blind. Studying mechanics before hand is it's own worth that has no in-game item to show it's value. If you were to list "Semi exp Wing 1 clear | Need Druid/Chrono/Banners/DPS/whatever other roles" it may fill up over time and that could be your entry into the game mode, I definitely encourage that! Aside form that though, we do offer a couple trainings on Mistlocked, our discord link is discord.gg/CE3TswT, but there's also a huge raiding community on NA called Raid Academy which many members of Mistlocked are a part of an love it, their link is: discord.gg/gw2ra If you're EU, there are two other Discords you can join for Raid Trainings: Raid Training Initiative [RTI] discord.gg/455x8kG Crossroads Inn: discord.gg/hdhDE3v

We're going through the same situation in IMAO, bro. The way I see there's two major points in this case: 1- Newies that won't search progression for theirselves. When we try to train some peps in raids or fractals we've noticed that those players won't try to pug or even see a tutorial video to learn by themselves, for instance. 2- New players that actually learn from our groups and don't take the knowledge ahead, teaching ppl that are in the same exactly spot they were a month or two ago. I srsly thought that we had this issue only in our Brazilian community, but it seems to be a problem with most of mmo players, sadly. Anyways, you have great skills in teaching and your videos helped me a lot with fractals, keep on the good work, gwjesus :)
@Rheyo4 жыл бұрын
Point #2 is such a strong point!! I notice this a lot, folks will struggle to learn, but once they've learned they won't turn back to teach. We have a good handful of people who have actually turned around and offered their time to train in Mistlocked, and of course this is just a game so free time is definitely precious after working a full time job or going to school full time, but at the same time there is still work that needs to be done in eliminating the lack of low kp/training groups in the community. It takes a community of people to make a difference, and that community that can make the difference are the people who have gone through that experience of lacking groups & filling that lack with more opportunity. Thanks for checking out the content my friend, and yes it's definitely within any community online or irl I believe, in general I feel as if people are resistant to stepping up & standing out.

I really get that, i prioritized giving 300gold for the commander tag when i also had many other goals, because i am not the type to always wait for others to make groups i can join. Well this applys to open world mostly. I didnt have trouble getting into fractal CMs, i made it because even when i had 10 kp after some kills i could perform well and join groups with 50kp or more. But if we are talking about raids, i gotta say it is a different world. There just isnt enough interest. I am trying to get into them, i have gotten some kills with and without guilds. But after some weeks i can definitely say that it is quite hard, i have to wait much time for players to join when i make a training group and a lot of them arent experienced in pve in general, so not ready for raids. Or they leave after 2-3 failed attempts. I dont even care about legendary armor or whatever, i could make that in like 6 months by doing just wing 1 and 4 which i find the easiest. I just want to be able to do this content successfully, every wing, but i dont know when that is going to happen.
@Rheyo4 жыл бұрын
I can see this for sure, this is one of the main reasons I chose Fractals over Raids in the first place due to the wait times for groups, Fractals are much more pick up and go than Raids are. I don’t think it’s impossible to have raids become more regular for the players, but due to their nature of 10 people, and each person being responsible for upholding their role effectively, this means it’ll take a lot more discipline and organization from the members, which is why there are more discord’s and out of the game resources.

...I'm in this video and I don't like it xD I do agree with the message. I have also lately been doing this for those HoT metas, and I find it very often with Chak Gerent. If just one person pops a tag for a lane, others will show, it just takes *someone* giving that little push to the others. (it's especially helpful if you pick Nuh, since that's the hardest lane.) I think I did need to hear this again, though, so thank you for that.
@Rheyo4 жыл бұрын
Hey Tavi for sure man! Like you said, all it takes is a little push, I've organized plenty of Meta's with just tagging up to taxi people into the map, and being clear that I'm not 100% sure what to do and most, if not every time, people are cool with it and someone is bound to step up and help. Things don't always work out, I don't always get enough people into a map, but that's typically the times where I tag up 5 minutes before start time as opposed to 15, but it's always worth a shot!

I'm also an introvert, and prior to starting KZbin, I never talked to anyone in Guild Wars 2 and was adamant about only joining small guilds of about 30-50 people at a time. The feeling of being a burden is mostly put onto you by your own self, you have to give yourself patience and time to improve. Yes there will be people who have an issue with a lack of ability, but these people have forgotten the learning process. You have to fail & you have to go through the process of sucking at content (or really anything) in order to get good at it, and learning this process in a video game is a very safe way to get that experience.

If people would just put a tiny bit of effort into doing more damage or providing more boons... You can sum up the entire end game community on a world boss. 25% of the players doing 75% of the work. That's with regards to carrying bad players through hard content like raids or CMs. Starting raid training groups and explaining every conceivable mechanic and environmental effect, every build nuance and every composition. If that 75% put in just a tiny bit more effort, even 10 minutes a day, to improving themselves... It's such a small ask but the rewards would be enormous. I personally put a ton of effort into running training raids and helping groups in LFG get through wings. I learned from a damn good player and I would love to be able to pass some of that on. People just are not receptive to it. 10 minutes is not a lot... Hell even 5 minutes would make a huge improvement. As it stands a player with exotic gear that knows how to play can outperform someone in full legendary and do it easily. tl;dr - noobs need to try a tiny bit more if they want content to be accessible.

I have met lots of T4 PUGs recently that are afraid of the KP brickwall you always see on LFG. All those groups demanding a zillion KP and no training groups - so they feel like the train has already left. That's how I feel too. The CM community looks very hostile judging by the ridiculous amount of required KP for normal daily groups. But I will try to get into CMs next week.
@Rheyo4 жыл бұрын
Try not attribute higher kp amounts with a more toxic person, something that people automatically say is that high kp groups = hostile and that's not always true. I have my personal beliefs about high kp groups, which is that the skill difference of your average group for 50+ kp vs 250+ kp is minimal or virtually the same in my personal experience, but for some groups higher KP thresholds assume that you know more of the smaller details like skips, portal locations, using CC consumables, etc. These are unofficial systems developed by the playerbase, they'll have their flaws, but it shouldn't stop people from forming their own groups.
@ExxzoD4 жыл бұрын
You don't have to join any group. Just take the initiative to post your own group in LFG... XX CM training (know mechanics) - 1 HFB 1 ARen 1 BS 1 DPS People will join. Some will leave. Others will join. And it will be great when you clear it! Just be sure to watch a video guide to get the basic knowledge.
