This song is a lot of fun and catchy as hell, but it also has the most important message for any couple; be open and honest, and actually talk about what's going on, express your desires, wants and needs; and finally enjoy the little things that break up the day to day routine that keep you from falling into that rut!
@ArgonTheAware2 жыл бұрын
But how long was she running that personal ad, how many men had she been meeting and why wasn't open and honest about that?
@cliffordschaffer52892 жыл бұрын
The message is that he went out to try to cheat on his girlfriend and was pleased to find that she was trying to cheat on him. True love. The moral of the story is that they are both insane if they think they won't be trying to cheat again next week.

@@cliffordschaffer5289 the song is a "warning" that if you don't want to end up like this couple, then you better learn how to communicate with your significant other. This couple was headed down the wrong path because they weren't communicating. I've been married for 23 years because my husband and I understand the importance of sharing our thoughts and feelings with each other.
@cliffordschaffer52892 жыл бұрын
@@pisces228 It is one thing if you fall into a situation one night where you wind up doing something you shouldn't with another person. How would your husband feel if he found out that it wasn't an accident or mistake? What if he found out that you had engaged in an elaborate plot to go get some strange stuff? That is -- you carefully thought about it, placed an ad somewhere, waited for the results, and then went after them. It wasn't just too many drinks one night. You PLANNED it. You thought about it a long time and the answer you came up with is that you needed some strange. And then you worked on it. How should he feel? Seems like the only thing that would keep you together is if he is just as big a slimeball as his wife. Maybe you are right. If you are both like that, then it will keep you both from dating someone else and making their life miserable.

Rupert's original lyrics were "If you like Humphrey Bogart and getting caught in the rain". He said he changed it 10 seconds before he sang it at the recording to pina coladas. He said it made sense and drove the chorus to have the island sound.
@mochs38692 жыл бұрын
On the "Professor of Rock" channel, he did a video on this song with an interview from Rupert himself explaining how he came up with the song and how it was constructed...Up until 10 seconds before he laid down that vocal, the chorus went "If you like Humphrey Bogart", but it didn't work and he was going for an island feel and "Pina Colada" fit in perfectly rhythmically, so he switched it and it changed his life forever. Though he had read the lyrics out loud to himself several times while composing it, what you hear on the recording is the first and only take where he sang it. Professor of Rock is a great channel to subscribe to as he goes in depth behind a lot of these songs you're reacting to often with interviews from the artists themselves - here's the one on Escape: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZprCqGSCnKt3ga8

A couple of tidbits about this song: The actual title of the song was "Escape", but in the chorus the lyrics referred to Pina Colada. When people were looking to buy the single, they would ask the store clerk "Do you guys have that Pina Colada song??" Infinity Records heard about this and added (The Pina Colada Song) to the title, thus the song became "Escape (The Pina Colada Song)". "Escape (The Pina Colada Song)" was the final #1 hit of the 1970's, and was the first #1 hit of the 1980's. This happened because the song went to #1 on the Billboard singles chart in mid-December 1979, and stayed at #1 through the first few weeks of January, 1980. No other artist or group has had that happen.

Another thing that makes this song special is that this song was the last song to hit number 1 on the Billboard charts of the 1970s. (Hitting No.1 in late December 1979) The song would hit number one again when it took over KC and the Sunshine Band's last number one hit (Please Don't Go ) in early January 1980.
