I've got this and what no one explains is that If you are a longtime mouse and keyboard user it is incredibly difficult to break the habit of a lifetime. Nothing will ever be as good as the mouse and keyboard for subtle alterations (don't be fooled). You will either get into using this and use it occasionally or it will become another glaerous peripheral that gathers dust. Mine is currently the latter.
@JimGramze8 ай бұрын
Have had this since it was first available and absolutely love it. There is nothing cheap about the feel of the plastic body which is solid and rigid. I've never seen anything this customizable before that can work with any plugin from any manufacturer (parameters must be automate-able. Loved it from the first moment I plugged it in. Amazing how it populates the controls for plugins that have not been mapped yet. I do prefer my own mappings and layouts to the factory ones.

Got mine a few months ago and slowly working through it, but it sits nicely on my studio desk next to my Launchpad Pro. Along with my wireless trackpad and keyboard,, the CS12 is potentially a great complimentary device. The support folks at Nektar have been great to answer some of my queries, and I look forward to not only getting deeper into the device, but also the eventual improvements over time.

Nektar has a good history with deep DAW integration. They did the original Panorama keyboard controllers with deep Reason DAW integration that was great for it's time. Then they expanded that type of integration with other DAWs on those Panoramas.

Nice! Regarding the plastic or metal chassis. Have you ever measured the voltage from any of the metal chassis to earth ground? I'm getting 30-50 Volts AC on much of the gear with ungrounded power supplies. The plastic cases do not expose this voltage to the end user or other devices. The voltage is low amperage, but for folks with EMF sensitivity or other gear and control voltages that may be sensitive, it's an issue.

@@Whiteseastudio I've had to ground a good deal of my equipment and furniture. Nice side effect, super quite studio electronically. Even the spring reverbs are noise free. Odd that the Apple laptops are some of the few that have ungroudned power adapters. And they pass 50 Volts AC to Earth from the chassis. Unless the 3 prong power extension cable is used in lieu of the 2 prong flip out.

@@maffstenning9627 I have severe nerve inflammation caused by EMF (electromagnetic fields). I had devastating pain in my colon from 2017 to late 2023 due to the 2016 15" MacBook Pro I purchased in 2017. All the metal Apple laptops leak 50 volts A/C current from the frame to Earth ground. If you are touching the laptop or have it on your lap, this voltage goes into your body. As it was doing with me. I've been pain free since I started using the laptop properly grounded. Apple's power adapter can be grounded, as every other manufacturer does by default, but you need to use their three prong power cable extension. There are aftermarket 3 prong duckheads for the Apple power adapter as well. I can't tolerate WiFi or Bluetooth exposure either, but those are far less trouble than direct A/C current exposure. I can't believe this is allowed in gear.

@TheJonHolstein8 ай бұрын
I think Nektar said Cubase was next on their list for support for this device. I don't know how the faders feel on the new iCon pro series, but they have been clever enough to use a touch display with a grid overlay to make "buttons", so that they can have correct label for any daw (and they support simple keyboard macros for user presets, not a Elgato Streamdeck replacement but much better than the typical Mackie controller). They also have a way of controlling last touched parameter, in that case by using the jog-wheel, I suspect that works in Cubase, not sure it works in every daw.

I’ll be patient until Studio One is supported, but I have a question: many knob controllers have the annoying behavior of immediately jumping to a value when moved, or not responding until you spin past the actual value. I see that the fader seems to jump to actual value….how do the knob controllers respond?
@grunions96488 ай бұрын
That's really only an issue with potentiometers, which have a start and stop range. Most decent 'pots' on digital equipment these days are rotary encoders - they have no limit on range and will just increment values depending on which direction you turn them in. So no workarounds like jumping or take-up are necessary.
