@@BBWahoo I would've loved Game Boy Donkey Kong to make a return. I know people keep saying that's meant to be Cranky Kong, but Cranky's own bias towards modern game development, and the fact the Game Boy version was released just a few months prior to Donkey Kong Country (and how much deviation there was between the Arcade Game and the Game Boy game) makes me believe that's not the case. I can believe Cranky can be the OG DK, but not the same DK presented in the Game Boy game.

On the Saturday Supercade, Mario was voiced by Peter Cullen, most famous for voicing Optimus Prime, Eeyore, and to a lesser extent Monterey Jack. Whoever told you it was Mel Blanc lied... except about the Mario 64 beta, that part's true.

Donkey Kong was made because Miyamoto wanted to make another game about Popeye but couldn't get the rights to it so he made up some original characters that have since surpassed them in popularity. Same story for Mega Man and Astro Boy.

Jumpman and Mario are the same character basically. Mel Blanc was alive when Mario was first voiced by Peter Cullen in a Donkey Kong cartoon. He was actually voicing Heathcliff and some Looney Tune clipshow specials at the time too, so he was still voice acting in his old age. His last voice acting gig was the 1990 Jetsons Movie that came out a year after his death in 1989, (he finished all his lines for Mr. Spacely) and the movie is dedicated to him.

Fun fact, when Super Mario 64 was previewed at game shows a year or so before release, before having Charles Martinet voice him, they used stock sound effects of Mel Blanc's voice for Mario in it. I think there's video somewhere of Mario falling with a Yosemite Sam style scream when he fell.
