Same here - got my hopes up that they were there for the draft too! Still had 10 people so it was a pretty good turnout. Irony of ironies, the first pack I opened had a non-foil retro frame Edgar Markov. Pulled it, ended up playing mono-black and doing busted things with multiples of Siege Zombie, Gisa's Bidding, Deadly Allure, and Murderous Compulsion.

Your draft guide for this set helped me out so much! I went undefeated until the last match but the other undefeated guy and I made a deal that either one of us wins and we split the winner box. I made a blue white spirit/flying deck with some angel and blink synergy and finished off with two copies of cathars crusade. It was awesome. Your draft guide was so helpful. MtG was one of the few things that got me through the years of 2019 to 2021. I won't go into great detail but I lost a lot of people very dear to me, including both my parents and there were times I didn't want to go on or was even sure how I could. Luckily,I had friends and distractions that helped me clear my head, allowing me to figure it all out,including this silly card game for children and a lot of awesome people here on KZbin. Professor,you helped me come back to this game and love it as I did back in highschool (in the 90's for me as well) even if I don't always love the product or the company that makes it. Personally disagree on Crimson Vow, because it personally felt like a good thematic counterweight to Midnight Hunt. Where Midnight Hunt was focused on the common people's fight for survival in the looming eternal night, Crimson Vow showed that the rich and powerful were so out of touch in comparison to the common folk that they were actively celebrating the coming apocalypse with a goddamn wedding.

The combination of a vampire political power move by marrying the progenitor of their species, plus the murder/drinking of the leader of the last surviving angel flight which is basically the only thing vampires actually feared on innistrad, and a celebration of their cemented status as the apex species of Innistrad with the ushering in of an eternal night. Like, the political, religious, and societal power she would have gained from the whole thing if she'd succeeded was actually insane. It was basically Olivia's attempt at crowning herself the eternal Night Empress of Innistrad.

The difference in value between the states and europe is amazing. 77 Dollar movie poster Emrakul is at around 34 Euro on Cardmarket, 5 Dollar non foil Odric is basically worthless draft chaff and the most expensive foil Edgar is almost on par with the retroframe one in Dollar. I´ve cracked showcase Edgar, retroframe and movie poster Cathars Commando in foil, retroframe and movie poster Emrakul in non foil and still didn´t got my money back from the box.

I will say Hermit Druid is a fine reprint for Innistrad Remastered. 1) He's a human druid, which totally tracks with what Innistrad has as far as humans go and what they do there. 2) He self-mills, which is EXACTLY what you want to have happen in an Innistrad limited environment that has Delirium as a major mechanic. 3) There's no thematic tie for him to another plane. He wasn't printed originally in Innistrad because, well, we didn't really have a lot of other planes to go to when he was printed in the first place. So he's a hermit druid from Innistrad, and tbh he needed a reprint and this was probably the best spot for it. Now, Maelstrom Pulse WAS a bad reprint in this set, especially since we just got it in Foundations. Bleh! :)

I appreciate you talking about your experience with OG Innistrad. I started playing in Scars of Mirrodin block but it wasn't until Innistrad that I took it more seriously. My first single I ever bought was a foil Champion of the Parish, still one of my favorite cards, and I play the same copy still in my human EDH deck. I agree that it's hard to state how important the set is to me.

Prof you are looking through rose coloured glasses. Original Innistrad was before FIRE design so the limited environment is filled with some terrible cards. The new remastered set is basically the old format, but with the old cards removed and the good cards from other Innistrads brought to replace them. It's a really nice format and it does capture the feel of the original. Like Paraselene, Nevermore and Purify the Grave are a slew of cards that are unplayable in any limited deck.

Basically CCG's like MtG are investment games for kids. And adults. They speculate on the value of cards and sets. Then ship hundreds of cards per day to make money. You will find most video's on these types of games are about the money involved. Typically not a word about playing the game. At least WotC the company sponsors some gameplay videos but other than that they do terrible things to the game and to their players for more money and for spreading radical ideology. It's like gacha or lootboxes: very addictive and not ethical. Besides that, it's a pretty cool game. But the answer for the prices is: Because they can get away with it.

I dm'd a DnD campaign that took place in Innistrad and somewhat went through the story of Avacyn being locked in Helvault. The campaign ran for around 6 years or so. It's still one of my best gaming experiences. Original Innistrad sets were just so damn flavourful and well done that I could easily build stories, places and characters by just looking at the cards and reading their flavour texts. I even introduced Old Rutsein in my campaign well before that character was ever printed on a card. A few older cards had Rutstein in flavour texts only and I pretty had the exact same theme with Rutstein being that old mysterious knowledgeable old guy that newer Innistrad cards revealed later. My players visited all the biomes in the world and met with major characters in the story. Even encountered planeswalkers a couple of times. Those were always very intense moments. I did foreshadow a ton of eldritch horror stuff throughout the campaign, but never really pulled the trigger on that story arc. The story for our campaign ended years before the eldritch stuff happened. Maybe one day I will return to that campaign...

I really like the way the lands look in this set, foil and nonfoil, they've got a really nice detailed look about them, and I don't know if it's just because of the older look of the frame. I know it's a silly thing to like when there's all those higher priced reprints, but the general look of the lands in this set are great.
