We need some time and support games and studios which do it the right way. Want LootBoxes? Ok but sensibly priced and drop things that are unlockable with game currency and dont make loot necesarry to be at a advantage in game. So sth like skins, logos, etc. Not for example you had to buy a certain car only with IRL money in NFS Most Wanted 2012 just to be relevant in MultiPlayer.

Just look at some summon videos for Dragonball Legends (rare characters get usually a max of 7% chance of acquiring, and these characters are the only ones worth getting and even then, you aren't guaranteed a good one) the entire thing is a gamble, just to try and get in game characters you need to play even casually.

When I was a teenager a microtransaction meant spending $5 for a questline in Oblivion that also came with new game mechanics, a weapon or two, possibly a new armor set too. Now it means spending $15 for a pack of recolors to existing items. I used to boot up photoshop and do that myself, or download one from Nexus.

It means that people do not become so desprite to get out of debt they get further in it due to a belief they can get out if they bet enough. Instead they do it due to addiction. The problem is that there is no clear law on addiction. Are people addicted to gambling yes, are people addicted to gaming yes. Is gaming taking advantage of this with gambling like mechanics yes. Is there anything wrong with taking advantage of a addiction? Unethical yes wrong in a enforceable context no. If a law was passed on a company's responsibility to its customers that sells addictive products alcohol and tobacco company's would be higher on the list then gaming company's. I am not defending EA and co as I think they are scummy human beings, the problem is how to enforce a law that states company's are responsible for the customers use of there product

@@generalharness8266 Belgium somehow made it happen. It (lootboxes) can easily be equated to gambling and regulated as such
@TLC4205 жыл бұрын
@@generalharness8266 yes but this is exactly the problem now, the corporations wanna call it something else so its completely fine, where as it is gambling, if they wanna start making games with gambling and give them proper age rating and inform ppl what it is so they know if their kid is making gambling purchases then thats fine, lets just call it what it is so it can be regulated as such and of course the customers will decide if they want to support that or not the only real legit way to do lootboxes without gambling, is if your awarded the lootboxes and the key to open them for playing and get a random ouput, then you can buy "paid" lootboxes and keys that allow you to select from whats in it since you payed, so you know what you get for real currency or at the very least having 2 random ouput boxes where 1 is free and completely awarded in-game, then having the paid one thats random but you buy the box and key would give players a choice in the matter even if its still gambling, so the game would still just need a proper age rating and info about it so everyone understands what that entails, so the problem is dishonesty here which has gotten many of kids into some hardcore gambling situations, so its falsely advertising the product as well (kinda like Twitch is doing with the Exotic Streamers, using the guise of "family friendly content" to sell sex to kids for as long as possible until its found out)
@bobbyzhou11945 жыл бұрын
@@generalharness8266 I won't agree with the 'not so desperate' statement. Technically lootboxes and gambling are one and the same, you either go home with nothing, or you spend everything to get that little something. There has been plenty of studies that claim that making over $85,000 a year wont make you happier, but rather your entire goal for existence becomes making as much money as possible. You have to imagine that being apart of a job that makes say $60-$90k has you doing business with at least a few guys making 6 figures plus, being constantly around their luxury must affect them alot. You see your boss driving a sports car worth 6 figures, custom suits, expensive watch/ring. That baller lifestyle is something that leads to alot of peoples downfall, how many rappers or pro sports players spent all their money to maintain that status? It comes down to how much you value public perception and how comfortable you are with your current lifestyle
@ConfusedRaccoon5 жыл бұрын
To be fair, the base game prices are roughly the same as they were, it's climbing with inflation and the cost of everything else. Think of it this way. 15 years ago, Star wars Battlefront 2 cost £10,000,000 to make, and it cost us £30 to buy it. Today, that same game probably cost closer to £75,000,000 to make, so it costs us £50 to buy it. These numbers are made up for the purposes of this example. Have a google though, you'll see the pattern. However, I think you can blame Capitalism and the belief that "Trickle down economics" works as a sustainable way of life. That and that people are ever so desperate to get richer. Why should they stop taking advantage of us cash cows when we willingly give them money for something they get other people to make, in sometimes slave-like environments. It's disgusting, but it's hidden and out of mind so it carries on. And the ones in charge know that and or are willing to look the other way/deflect from it. Sadly the ones who like this sort of thing are the ones who're ruthless enough and or psychopathic enough to get themselves to the head of the snake. You kind of need to not feel anything, to see people not as people but as assets, machines, things to be a CEO of a big company/enterprise/conglomerate.

The consumers wouldn't mind saying "shut up and take my money" if that were to happen and the thing is, this is quite proven if I had to say, that those 2 thing does work I just said above works, take Digital Extreme and CDPR for example, DE does monetize their free-to-play Warframe, but with the way they monetize it, I wouldn't mind spending my money every now and then, "premium in-game currency" and all the items in-game are also obtainable, meaning that my money is not the one and only way to buy all the things that I want in that game. as for CDPR? we all know about the Witcher 3 and now, Cyberpunk 2077, so I won't say too much about this :)

Sadly that's actually true. I saw a tragic story about the war on drugs. 2 UNDERCOVER police officers in plain clothes set up shop on a man's PRIVATE PROPERTY. The man tried to tell the men to get off his property. When they refused to do so he eventually went back in his house to get his firearm. When he exited the house with his gun the PLAIN-CLOTHES OFFICERS 'ordered' him to drop his weapon and when he didn't the officers starting shooting at him. When the man tried to save his own life by fleeing the officers gave chase FATALLY SHOOTING him in the back. In court it was eventually determined to be the man's own fault for refusing to drop his gun at the orders of UNDERCOVER PLAIN-CLOTHES officers

Yes, but this has nothing to do with loot boxes being gambling or not. You're just pissed that loot boxes still exist and that's a big business. The fact that you don't want loot boxes in games doesn't mean others share your opinion. I don't and yet I let my wallet do the talking by NOT buying any loot boxes. But this logic should be extended to other games (World of Tanks) where you can purchase gold to convert XP. Not gambling, but I've spent at least £1000 on that game so far since it was in beta. So you tell me, where do we draw the line at "gambling".
@abadenoughdude3005 жыл бұрын
@@levyroth Gambling is when you put in money, not knowing if you will get anything or not, and then you keep putting in more money by the old gambler's mindset of "well I've got to win eventually, have to get back what I've put in". Buying gold to turn into xp is different, because you're paying for a specific single item.
