Also Qawzi, when you do the comparison… Try not to click so fast. Show one, wait 2 seconds, then show another. That way we can see what’s going on better.

May I ask if you've watched the Netflix series Wednesday directed by Tim Burton? I am just in awe of how it starts so vibrant and colourful with the signature Netflix saturation. And, as the episodes progress the colour grading goes darker and darker. Just in case you haven't seen it, I'd love to have a go at attempting such a grade either for episode one, all unicorns and rainbows bright, to the last episode which is a dark sinister looking grade.

Qazman, i think maybe if you had used a window on the artist and in that node just disaturate her skin a little and maybe swing the hue ever so slightly, i think you might like that as well. because film's secret sauce is Magnificiently Superior Colour Sepration. Anyways...just a thought.

I loved the last sat adjustement, before that I was liking it but something was missing for me, and this final adjustement just puts everything where it needs to be :D

When do you prefer a color managed workflow and when do you use CST nodes?

Can you give a tutorial on how to calibrate an LG C2? You suggested that we get it, but the information on how to calibrate TV monitors is sparse. It would be extremely helpful.

I must say a big thankyou for the videos but I have two questions. 1. When do you use CST? Like in what situation? Is it used in all of your grade? 2. How do you come up with ideas on what the grade for a project should look like? Is it a 'Try, try and try again' situation until you get something you like?? I would love to please answer these and possibly make a tutorial about them. Thanks

You have to use CST or color management in order to convert the footage from a log state into rec. 709 (which is the commonly used color space for SDR displays) or if you simply want to work in another color space. That is why he converts the footage which was shot in Arri LogC3/Arri Wide Gamut 3 to Davinci Intermediate/Davinci Wide Gamut (which is even bigger and used by many colorists nowadays). Then at the end of the node tree he does a final conversion from Davinci Wide Gamut back to rec. 709 so it can be viewed on an SDR monitor. However, if you work on footage that was not shot in a log profile (which means it was recorded in rec. 709 right away) you may leave it as is and won`t have to use any CSTs. Hope this helps. Regarding the idea for the look he kinda explains it in the video that this was shot in Morocco and he therefore wanted to go for a fairly warm look that you would automatically associate with such a location. It also creates a nice color contrast with her dress which leans towards blue/cyan.

Is just cranking everything to yellow and blue or teal and orange or whatever taking a risk? That's literally what everything looks like now 😂

Qazi, I love all the content you post! I been struggiling with something. The renders I have been doing look washed out (no deep blacks) compared to what they were prerender. How can I avoid that to where it looks identical as to what I see in my grading window. I work on a Win 10 machine using davinci resolve 17 and 2 BenQ 10 bit monitors. Any advice would be appreciated.
