I'm bothered that I wasted my youth getting high, should've been wrestling in high school. Making up for it now, clean, training BJJ years now. This channel is a blessing, hope for much success to you 🙏

They are alot of upper body throws from Judo and Greco Wrestling too. You don't always have to go for the legs with stand up. In fact, I rarely do. I never teach double legs or single legs in the takedown classes I teach. I see too many beginners go for them and get headlock/guillitoned. Shots are just a lot riskier in BJJ. I know single/double work but they have to be set up.

What do you suggest to start with

@@jonathanwilliams1746 Grip fighting. Take downs and grappling in general all start with grip fighting. If you learn to hand fight as in get dominate grips and manipulate people's posture and or balance you can throw people a lot easier. Learn how to do a proper underhook. Learn how to do a proper collar tie. Then you can start with ankle picks. They are less risky than single/double leg takedowns. Or learn a few takedowns form front headlock since it's easy to get most people's head down.

So well explained. So many videos teach you one technique after another but none explained the overall strategy.

As above so below. The same laws govern guard and wrestling, and they flow into each other. Everything in grappling is about polarity. Limbs up or down. Turn towards or away. Grab one or two legs. Control with one hand or both. Dilemmas.....Opposites are identical in nature but different in degree

Thank you so much! This is so helpful you guys are awesome. I remembered my first BJJ competition as a white belt and I spent 3 months starting on my knees in the gym. So when I had my match, standing up totally threw me off. I got taken down and embarrassed the hell out of myself. Lol since then, I made it a priority to get good at wrestling. Still a work in progress but this video is so helpful. Thank you again

I was hoping you could answer something I’m a bjj purple belt with absolutely no takedowns. I want to start learning wrestling should I start learning single leg double leg or by pass shots and use upper body take downs

The reason I like wrestling more than BJJ is that the BJJ people are like "all fights end up the ground" so then they just go right down to the mat right away without exploring other possibilities. It's kind of like saying, "since I park in the alley when I get home, I need to drive all the way home through all the alleys."

Excellent! I really wish the intricate puzzle pieces of judo wrestling and jiujitsu were one. Each discipline has mastered their aspects of grappling. I do think as grappling evolves it will become an all in one game. Sort of a mixed grappling arts vs having one single style.
@adamwood87

absolutely. that's what is taught at my gym: we get judo, and wrestling moves during takedown week. i don't care if a move comes from aikido, if it actually works, i want to know it.
