This reality, along with its failure on a dramatic level, is why the coda of this film is so annoying. The movie should have rolled credits after Neeson's character completes the rescue. Perhaps the reunion with the mother at the airport is acceptable (if unnecessary), but everything afterwards diminishes this ending because it gives the impression that nobody learned anything from or was significantly affected by the experience. Perhaps, calling in a favor to meet the pop star was some attempt to intervene in Kim's life because she had withdrawn into herself because of the trauma so severely that hikikomori had nothing on her; perhaps it was to try to remind Kim of normal life because she had been dedicating herself 24/7 to firearms training and Krav Maga while preparing to join the military/FBI/underground vigilante organization because her newfound experience of cultural diversity had indeed changed her outlook on life. There is, alas, nothing on screen to indicate this. Rather, we are left asking, "Was Amanda much of a friend at all?" She doesn't seem to have been much affected by this "friend's" horrible experience and death. It is such an unforced error, dramatically. We had an excellent movie ruined by a clumsy coda. It reminds us of why so many opera companies end Mozart's "Don Giovanni" with the eponymous character being dragged into hell by the statue of the Commendatore rather than include the final scene in which all the other characters address the audience about how salutary a story it was and how they are all planning on amending their lives. After the rescue, you have nothing more to say, Pierre Morel, leave well enough alone, already.

I have a different take on this story. Human traffickers proliferate because they see little downside to their actions. If it was this DANGEROUS to be a human trafficker, the number of people doing it would greatly decrease in number, which would, in turn, greatly decrease the number of people being trafficked.

And the owner of the yacht bought 3 of the auctioned girls! I assume they were freed too.! They were most likely grateful as well, but they never showed that storyline. And I am sure if the yacht would have gone back to where it came from it most likely would have been in the Mid-East where females have NO rights and are all assigned male Guardians their whole life who make all their decisions for them. I actually had a connection with a Man from the Mid-East who invited me there and I decided it would probably be too risky to go. I found out a woman can't even board a plane to leave there without the permission of her Male Guardian, which probably would have been him. I would probably be stuck there for the rest of my life and had to give him all my money. 😊😊👍👍👱♀👱♀👗👗👠👠❤❤

I love the films of Luc Besson, I really hope the channel does more of them :-. Fifth Element, Lucy, Leon, Nikita, Columbiana, The Transporter, The Big Blue, are just a few examples. It kinda shows how he understands what people want to watch, because quite a few have follow up's. The 3 Taken films are a perfect example, After 3 Transporter movies it spawned a series. Columbiana was originally going to be the follow up to Leon the professional, before it was rewritten. Perhaps if he was British or American then he'd be much more a household name? Aside from the great stories his films always have clever things in them, are often beautiful to look at (Big Blue is the single most beautiful movie ever made) A perfect example in this movie is his casting of the character of the pop star singer Sheerah. . Now there's literally thousands of young actresses around the world who would have loved to play this small but noticeable and important part, based presumably on Madonna or any of the global stars of that era. Instead of just picking a random actress he chose Holly Valance, who had a good career as an actress and then became a pop star with number one hits etc. She would know that part because she'd lived it and had the acting chops to back it up ( I always felt it was such a waste when she married some billionaire and stopped acting and singing)

“Recording equipment and a microphone are a children’s gift,” but the horse doesn’t mean a child’s gift, right? It seems that the second husband did not know anything about Kim at all and gave her the most expensive and useless thing he could. And if the second husband is such an influential gas tycoon, then he could do a lot to search for Kim. He could have attracted his people in the police, in the administration, reported this to the whole of Europe through journalists, attracted special forces... He could have gotten the FBI, S.W.A.T. and others involved in the case with just a few calls! Not to mention the fact that he probably has secret connections with criminal authorities. Because for business it is important that sometimes blood is shed, the blood of competitors, debtors, and so on. But he did NOTHING! And EVEN the girl's mother didn't force him. Brian had to do everything alone because he was the only one who cared.

Every time I re-see this movie I am impressed all over again with how good it is. Liam really sells it in the action parts of it, which, given that he was not an action star, was a pleasant surprise. And as motivations for extreme violence go, rescuing your daughter from s3x tr@ffickers is pretty much top of the list! I don't know if it is meaty enough for a reaction but just last week I watched another Liam Neeson movie that proved surprisingly good. It's not "Taken" but it was entertaining and intriguing and also has Guy Pearce and Monica Bellucci in it, adding some acting talent depth to proceedings. I think it could have done with a few more scenes to flesh out certain things but it was obviously cut for length, as so many of these non-blockbusters are. It's called Memory and he plays a hitman with developing alzheimer's.
