I got horribly ill and was rushed to the Hospital in Kuala Lumpur. Imagine visiting a hospital in a foreign country where they speak a different language? Not the travel adventure we were hoping for.

To be honest though, the government didn’t promote Malaysia as such medical unlike Thailand, for example, due to we do not have enough hospitals. While the government spend a lot of national budget towards health and medical stuffs, we do know that it’s not cheap and always not enough. Although I dare to say the quality is on par to the western standards. My only beef with the hospitals here between private and public ones are; government public hospitals provide better medical supplies and disease prevention but the queue is long depends on your age (old and youngs first), while the private ones provide better service and hospitality yet couldn’t provide the best medicines despite the price we paid for.

Hence, the exponential traffic and the increase number of private hospitals can be seen since then. Other inbound tourism industries also benefited from this initiative led by MHTC. About 10 years ago my younger sister got really sick after a work trip in Manila, she contracted some kind of airborne virus that caused her white blood cells went down to dangerously low level. She was hospitalized in one of the private hospital in KL for more than a week while the doctors tried to figure out the cause and solutions and that got us all worried. Fortunately they did help her to recover and she’s doing fine to today.

This is just my opinion as a vet, perhaps your pain was caused by gastric acid that couldn't be neutralize by your bile juice. Since you already removed your bile sac. The bile sac function is to stored the bile produce overtime by the liver. Since it is already being removed, The produced bile was drain out into the intestine and couldn't be stored to be use when acid level exceed the normal level. Sometime when you eat certain food like high in protein such as meat, the stomach produce more digestive acid to digest the protein. When the digested food with gastric acid flow into the small intestine, the bile will be secreted and mix to reduce the acid level before entering the small intestine. If the bile is not enough, the acid will be still there and cause pain, since the wall of small intestine is not designed to accept acidic environment. My opinion is, you have to identify what food that you have eaten before that cause the pain. Is it food that need high acidic level to digest? If it is tally or fit into your stomach pain experience, then perhaps your should avoid or reduce the amount of food that need high level of acid to be digested. Hope this will help.
@hackerszzz
@hackerszzz Жыл бұрын
Another function of gastric acid was to defend your body from harmful bacteria. If you eat certain food that contaminated with bacteria which is unknown by your body, the stomach will increase the acidic level of the gastric juice in order the destroy the bacteria. But since you already have bile sac remove, which compromise gastric acid neutralization process, this might be also the reason for the stomach pain. Perhaps you can take a high alkaline food or water to neutralize the acid level whenever you have stomach pain. This is just my opinion, perhaps you could ask your doctor about this.

The advice to eat only hot cooked food is good because it will minimise the risk of picking up unfamiliar bacteria. I've noticed that Indian (!) visitors to Australia tend to get stomach upsets for the same reason. I suggest you, and any traveller reading this, equip yourselves with a couple of bottles of activated charcoal tablets. If you get food poisoning take the dose suggested on the bottle. Activated charcoal absorbs the toxins produced by the unfamiliar bacteria. Note: Do not take activated charcoal shortly after taking medication because the charcoal will absorb the medication.

Hearing about your symptoms literally describes exactly what happened to me on end of April this year… it was truly a horrible excruciating pain that is hard to described, with waves of as you mentioned times were losing conscious felt eminent but never happened due to the tense pain accompanied with diarrhea and vomiting on my side. Unfortunately I wasn’t so lucky for the first 5 days for i was going to the ER at a near public hospital… they would discard me shortly after waiting about 3-5 hours just to see the doctor because the blood test would turn out normal and I wasn’t vomiting blood or anything of that sort or so they said. This happened 3 times with my visits to them which ended with the last time by them thinking I’m being paranoid and even tried to refer me to psychologist since my blood test was still coming back normal…… after having enough I went to Sunway private hospital, got hospitalized there for 6 days till my health got better and then on the end of may got to do a scope with biopsy after being on anti acid meds and painkillers for about two weeks since the doctor felt it was needed to recover enough to do the scope. They found out that my stomach from the start of it till the first part of my intestines after the end of my stomach all had mild chronic inflammation. With medication, avoiding acidic & spicy food for 5 months, i got so much better that i can eat normally again without worrying. I recommend you to stay away from acidic and spicy food for a while, and you might recover more faster if your stomach is inflamed, though a scope might be needed if things didn’t improve. Wish you the best.

our public hospital, since it's almost free (MYR 2.00 for most cases, understaffed and congested with patients, if it's something that is evident that you need treatment, they will send you home to make space for those who needs the ward beds more. The good thing is, if they see that you need surgery (for example) they will do it, and it's still almost free. our private hospitals, even if you dont need treatment, if you believe you're sick, they will make sure you believe that they also believe that you're sick, and make you stay as long as possible, especially if you have insurance, for as long as possible allowed by the insurance company.

@@AnasSuhaimi true, but I’m not malaysian admission fee for none Malaysian is MYR120 aside from the tests fees but if you needed to be hospitalized MYR 1,400 - 7,000 or a surgery at public hospitals would be MYR 3,000 - 11,000… I was paying from my own pocket at the ER… ended with about MYR 2K… my problem wasn’t just pain, diarrhea and vomiting, but it was also accompanied by mental confusion, sever Diarrhea, palpitation, chest pain and the inability to sleep for more than 2 hours without waking up feeling like my airways on fire due to the excessive acid reflux. When they were taking my blood pressure it was higher than it should be beside a low fever and resting heart rate of 125bpm….. a proper look at my symptoms would’ve been good especially that i kept coming back for the medication was just effective enough to let me have an extra hour of sleep. They did end with scheduling a scope for me within two month period, but i was at my limit at the time with less than 8 hours of sleep in 6 days.
@NavanBen
@NavanBen Жыл бұрын
@@AnasSuhaimi although I understand why they would not think of it as not an emergency. Fortunately I do have some sufficient medical knowledge to be able to understand the results and read through tests they toke for me, they really did came back normal…. unfortunately blood tests cannot indicate all problems that haven’t yet effected the body enough to enter the bloodstream at least not the normal standard blood test (CBC), such as the start of inflammation of the stomach that haven’t turned to an internally bleeding yet or sever infection. But what stood as most likely being the reason for them to not take it seriously was that i was able to walk and talk, even though it was purely through the sheer will off not passing out because of fear of the worst possible outcome that might follow a unconscious patient. At the end i went to the private hospital because there wasn’t much difference in expenses for foreigner in a public hospital, but on the contrary in some cases the government hospitals might end up being more expensive in some situations. PS: even at some private hospitals, self paying (without insurance) patients pay around 10% - 20% more than locals (from personal experience).

As a university student currently studying Microbiology, your encounter is a typical case of "Traveller's stomach/diarrhea". Different region have different microflora / bacteria population, when a new type of bacteria enter your gut, the microflora inside you is disrupted and because it's new to the immune system, the immune system may response with a series of unpleasent actions like vomitting and diarrhea. However, for the locals or natives, because their gut microflora and/or immune system have adapted to these kind of disease-causing bacteria since young, it's relatively harmless to them, their immune system or their own bacteria population in their guts might even able to fight off these harmful bacteria at the very beginning without causing any unpleasent reaction. Yes, you read correctly, a bacteria population can kill a foreign bacteria. Of course, if the contamination of the food is substaintial enough, or it's an especially pathogenic strain of bacteria, locals or natives will still fallen sick after taken the contaminated food. For your case, the preventive measures is basically what have been described by other comments, only eat from sanitary places and avoid street food generally (especially you seems like to have a sensitive digestive system), and also to make sure the food is properly cooked and the utensils were properly washed. About the comparison between government hospital and private hospital in Malaysia mentioned in other comments, I would always suggest foreigners especially tourists to go to private hospital if they encounter any medical problems. Not that the government hospital is worse than private hospital in terms of expertises, but both kind of hospital have very different goal and therefore have different atmosphere. Government hospital is more affordability-oriented while private hospital is more service-oriented. Government hospital's goal is to ensure most of the Malaysian citizens do not need to worry about medical bills when they encounter a medical emergency or when they are suffering from chronic disease that require constant medication. The private hospital on the other hand is to ensure their patients have premium and hotel- or resort-liked experience as long as you pay. Of course for the government hospital, it's main downside is longer waiting time if you are not a emergency or life-threatening case and have to share space with other patients in a larger ward. But since the affordability part of government hospital is only enjoyable by Malaysian citizens and the foreigners have to pay the full price, it's advisable for foreigners to visit private hospital instead of government hospital. This will also help relieve some burden from the government hospital and you get to enjoy a hotel like treatment with slightly more expensive price in private hospital. Luckily for you guys, the government have also put a price cap on private hospital's treatment fee by law (even the private hospital can't escape government control!), so that's why they are saying Malaysia is a medical tourism destination, if you guys have any other medical problems again (hopefully not) and want to save some cost, then you guys are welcome to come back to Malaysia again to seek treatment at a private hospital.

I'm in no position to give any medical tips, but I would share my experience in regards how me and my family handling flare up incidents. These flare up that you mentioned probably also known as inflammation. That is why it so painful. Inflammation can occur anywhere in our body for many reasons, injury food poisoning etc. As simple as it may sound, we normally use turmeric to bring down these flare up. Yes, you heard it right. Just turmeric. A simple home kitchen cooking ingredient. But if you're traveling I bet you don't carry such item around. What for anyway. However you can get these turmeric in the form of capsule which widely available in pharmacy or healhcare store in here, sold as supplement. The fact that these turmeric was packed and sold in such a way, evidently it is a common usage for some group of people in Malaysia. And in our experience, it works!! Yeay. After all it is not a drug or chemical, but simple cooking ingredient which help a certain medical condition, so i think it is safe to recommend you to have these turmeric supplement ready at hand. Hope this would help. 😅

So you have to take extra precautions. My eldest daughter too is one among you. My mother had her gall bladder removed when it was too late ie , when it turned cancerous. Now it's my turn. I browsed the net, after I found out I had stone in the gall bladder and discovered that Homeopathy had a solution. I went to a Senior Homeopathy doctor here in Sri Lanka and underwent a treatment for short duration. No surgery was involved. I still retain my GB with no symptoms for a 75 year old person.

Bad choice. Foods in supermarkets sit on the shelves for a long time and you don’t want to get them, especially something raw. I wouldn’t touch supermarket sushi here in California. Rather, I would buy from a reputable restaurant that specializes in sushi that they can prepare right away on the spot. There are good restaurants that offer good, sanitary food in Cambodia, like Malis in Siem Reap (mango salad) or One More Restaurant in Phnom Penh (fish cake, bamboo soup). I would not get anything that’s been sitting on the side of the road cold for hours.
