In today's video, we are going to talk about the Boeing 737 Take-off Configuration Warning and the Cabin Altitude Warning.
The Takeoff configuration warning warns you, when you advance the thrust levers, if your Aircraft is not configured for takeoff.
The Takeoff configuration warning horn will sound if:
- T. E. Flaps outside Take-off range or
- T. E. Flaps Skew, Assimetry/
Uncommanded motion or
- L.E. Devices outside Take-off range or
Uncommanded motion,
- Stab Trim Outside Take-off range,
- Parking Brake Set,
- Speed Brake Lever, not in the down
position.
Before taxi, we check if the aircraft is configured for take-off by advancing the thrust levers momentarily, this will trigger the warning horn if any of the items mentioned above are not set for takeoff.
It is very important to understand that the Cabin Altitude Warning makes the same sound as the Takeoff configuration warning.
So, if hear a warning horn on the ground it means that the Aircraft is not ready for takeoff and if you hear the warning horn in flight means that you have a pressurization problem.
The Cabin Altitude Warning horn of the Boeing 737 will sound if the cabin altitude exceeds 10000 feet.

This was a major factor on Helios 522 accident as the aicraft was not fitted with warning lights ,just the horn. Someone could argue that one occurs on the ground and the other in the air as mentioned in the video. I am aware of two different cases were the WOW (weight on wheels) system failed and caused confusion to the crew. This failure leaves the aircraft in ground mode resulting to activation of the configuration warning in the air as flaps are retracted . The cabin is also not press. correct which if not caught early might lead to further problems.

Both alarms sound similar. However pilots shouldn’t be confused. The pilots of Helios flight 522 mistook the Cabin Altitude warning as the Takeoff configuration alarm.

If we too high on profile while trying to intercept GS during precision landing , how to be on 3 degree GS ?
@PILOTCLIMB

Hey, thanks for watching!! You need to increase your rate of descent and get back on the glide, once on the glide continue with a 3 degrees descent.
