I miss flying on the 747-200,300 and 400 series of aircraft.Especially with QANTAS. Those were really the "Good Old Days" of air travel.

I prefer the high pitched whistle of these old 747 RB211s over the newer ones with the wide chord blades, but those sound excellent too.

I know what you mean about the "classic" Rolls-Royce RB211 engines, and their spooling up sounds towards take off thrust. L-1011 Tristars, like with Delta Airlines in the US, had a similar sound before takeoff. It was very unique. One that only Rolls-Royce engines could deliver. Pratt and Whitney engines were good too back in the day with United 747's,but I always liked the Rolls-Royce engine sound on take off on the 747's I flew in the past around the World.I will never forget it.

What I always found funny about some Rolls-Royce engines in the past was the way,in the start up sequence, there was this smoke that came out of an L-1011 engine exhaust area before taxi to the active runway for takeoff. Just engine oil pooling in the lower engine before start up,I guess,I never did know why that occured.Lol,you know you were on an L-1011,when you saw that before takeoff.

Yeah it did and it's best to avoid PER on any busy day. It really is appallingly small!

Is this the Blue coloured Nalinja Dreaming 743? Normally used on QF routes to Japan.

It's a shame no airline flies the 747 anymore, except maybe Lufthansa and Air China, some others like that. The 747 series of aircraft may be gone but NOT forgotten, for the most part.I miss flying on them. Nothing else like it!
