Fantastic video I was so lucky to fly on the 747/400 to London back in 1993 and LA in 1998 what an amazing safety record this aircraft had in my opinion the best of all time. and yeah as the saying goes if its not BOEING IM NOT GOING.

all of the US carriers had retired the 747-400 from passenger service. but still used as cargo and freighters. as the other carriers are using the newer 747-8 intercontentiental for passenger service. which will now become their only option when Airbus will end its A380 production in 2021.

Paul Stewart EXTRA. Love the short take off of the 747 when lightly loaded , very impressive . Just think how short it could get off if it wasn’t a derated thrust setting . Great scenery on climb out . I bet the view of the Gong was impressive too . Thanks Paul for yet another brilliant video .

I'm guessing this was a "milk run." 1st leg domestic SYD-MEL, then onto international phase for 2nd leg. I believe these are being retired at the end of this year, 2019. I've been to 3 continents on the Qantas 747! Africa, Asia and South America. I'm really going to miss the old bird. Now it's mainly the scarebuses in the QF fleet.

It was a relocation flight for the antarctica day trips. Sadly none of the 747s do those milk runs any longer. I managed to get onboard QF55's SYD-MEL leg before it continued to North America in October last year. I'm fairly sure that the retirement date is in 2020 when more 787s arrive.

Hey mate, it's from the last seat in the business cabin. :) Yep I completely agree that it's an amazing view and I always like to sit roughly in that position to get the view of the wing and engines :)
