Beautiful. A masterclass in juxtaposing different subchoirs, with varying numbers of voices in contrasting ranges. When the full six voices do finally enter, the result is glorious.

Wow. A masterpiece of rhythmic and contrapuntal complexity, all the while breathing a gorgeous air of expressivity and devotion.

Ce bijou de la musique polyphonique anglaise de la période TUDOR est saisissant d'expressivité .Le tempo offre un aperçu dramatique de l'angoisse de Marie face à Jésus sur la Croix.

This recording is a semitone higher than the score in the video, and the score is a major second higher than the original. The recording is thus a minor third higher than the original, which makes the Treble part piercingly intense on the highest notes, and possibly a little unnatural. It certainly emphasizes the mystical evocation of the music.

I am not the choir director of The Taillis Scholar, unfortunately or fortunately depending on the point of view (;^_^) but perhaps the pitch is chosen according to the tessitura and the capacities of each voice of the whoole choir and not just the upper voice. The oscilloscope is a recent invention which does not correspond to the reality of the tuning during past centuries.

@chantegraveknowing Peter Phillips, he probably picked the most dazzling pitch he could manage

The perfect tuning fork is a false problem and a modern problem! Real instrument measured as a function of temperature 10°c 433hz 15°c 436hz 20°c 440hz 25°c 444hz and... 392 Hz: French Baroque. 392Hz to 460Hz: Baroque Italian! 392Hz to 440Hz: English Baroque. 415Hz: German baroque. 422Hz: other classical music. 432Hz "The Earth" for lovers of alternative sciences. 435Hz: Romantic tuning fork, international standard in the 19th century (at 15°C ...) 440Hz current pitch (at 20°C ...). 442Hz modern tuning fork of the wood bill (to give a little flexibility in low temperature) compromises are necessary!

The pitch for this group is chosen not for academic reasons, but for aesthetic ones.
