Taking A Hammer To Fix My Lexus SC430

No one every called us mechanics. This just makes it obvious. But why in the world won't the SC430 start - but then does? hmmmmm

Clean terminal on battery and tighten, I can’t tell from hammer hitting if they are tight. Use wire brush on terminal and connectors.

Starter under the manifold. Good news is only about $1500. Very complicated repair. Bad battery cable probably it.

Check the right hand battery terminal. Saw a spark come from it when you tried to fire it up

Seems bad connection on the terminals as others said. Loosen them, clean etc, put them back on and ensure they’re snug fit after tightening. Looks like the terminal moves when hit so might not be tight connection. If you place a socket or something over the terminal before fully tightening, you can hit that to push only the terminal down around the battery post ensuring it’s all the way down and snug it up if needed

Looks Like the negative cable is loose when you hit it. Loosen the clamps, remove the terminals (negative first - black, then the positive - red), clean the terminals, replace the the terminals (in the reverse order of removal), and tighten the clamps nice and snug. Take a multimeter and check to see how many volts you have in the battery. If it's less than 12 volts the computer system won't be happy. Once you get it running, check the voltage of the battery again and it should be 13.5 - 14 volts. If it is, than the alternator is working. If it's not, your alternator is kaput. The starter is nestled in the 'V' of the engine underneath the intake manifold. It will cost a fair amount of labour to have it changed. I'm not sure why you don't just look up these things on KZbin. Oh, I forgot, then you wouldn't be able to show off your wife to get more views and subs.

We’ll try your advice, although we don’t have a multimeter.. We’veseen no other signs of a voltage loss through slower windows or delayed electronics, As for your other comment, keep your opinions to yourself

Did the battery terminals get cleaned with wire brush? There’s a coating on them sometimes which will prevent good contact. Then step 2 saw spark from that right inward terminal on 2nd attempt. Make sure you cannot wiggle terminals. A bad contact will also cause this situation. Good luck
