Finally! A ship can really become a mobile base if I can add storage containers for weapons, suits, etc. Also, looking forward to being able to get rid of all those damn explosive containers scattered around my ship.

Just like a outpost, you have access to craft the storage containers with this. Unfortunately its not the unlimited ones like we have at the Lodge, but close enough.

I think it's really great they are adding features and settings that had to be cut from the game to hit launch. The map in itself is completely fitting of the setting with details and scale appropriate for the level of technology available. And the shot of the shattered space being worked on was awesome, the steps climbing to a spire emitting some kind of energy under a purple atmosphere looks mystical, cultish and a little ominous... possibly another dimension.

The maps look very nice. But ship decoration is so amazing. 2 things I always wanted in my late game ships was a proper med bay and a large captain's quarters. Also, I could never understand the clutter in the starship interiors. I like a clean look. Very happy.

Yeah, My top deck is workshop, science lab and captain's quarters. Can't wait to go with a large upscale captain's quarters, and I've always wanted a 1x3 or 2x2 workshop too. Can even combine a workshop and science lab. This really opens up some tremendous options. for custom habs.

thank goodness ground vehicles are coming. even if bethesda doesn't add customization to them, i can guarantee modders will. despite all the doom and gloom about nobody making mods for it, there's a ton of them available already on pc and more being released daily. sadly it's going to take nearly a full year after release to finally get the game we should have at launch.

It seems there are always 2 schools of thought with game releases. The "Get it out the door and patch it later" side (lets call that the "Microsoft Way"), and the "lets delay it till we get it right" side. As someone who works in software, I can see both sides. Deadlines suck, and I am guessing that there was probably bonuses tied to releasing the game by X date. Oh well, it is what it is. As for the ground vehicles, modders are definitely going to have a field day with those. I am expecting everything from Speeder Bikes to the Batmobile.

Doors, no.. but ladders you can. Use an equipment plate or porthole to block the section you don't want the ladder to spawn. This will force the builder to generate the ladder somewhere else. I used this on my Vengeance MKII build to remove all ladders, so I just have the stairs on the Cabot bridge.

Same with doors just pay attention the the egress arrows and use plates windows and such to move the door to the opposite side or whatnot... its not as easy as just being able to highlight and pick a spot but it's doable

It's a huge step forward. However, I wish you could just delete AND add things to existing vanilla habs. Most of them are about 80% fine, and could just use some de-cluttering to make space for certain things like a workbench, etc. It is daunting to decorate that amount of space of an empty hab, especially when we don't have many of the items that are used in the vanilla habs. Also, the inventory of items is mostly out of place on a ship- things like plants, carpets etc. Anyways, it's a great start and I'm sure will be improved even more someday.

Use the builder to move the clutter to one hab (a companionway) then delete it in ship builder, no more explosive tanks or ladders or Tupperware you can long press A and grab most stuff or use the builder and do the same but either way just add a companion way 1x1 and toss it all in there and then delete that module... your welcome

You can if you know how the mechanics work.. use equipment plates and windows to force ladder and door placement...I do it all the time...haven't struggled with ladders since launch 😅

ive said it since day one, when it comes ship building/land vehicles, we need a module like the landing bay ( even some of the existing ones have room for a small bike style craft ) but it would be cool to have maybe an option for larger size landing bays to fit a vehicle inside it doesnt need to be a huge great semi truck lol just a small d.i.y craft, and while on the subject increase ship size limit and give us a shuttle bay, it allows us to land on planets still and have huge ships, this is possibly an update later for space stations as larger size ships would be built in space, trade off being the bigger sized ships that cant land planet side cant have a vehicle bay, and finally diagonal pieces and let me flip the current pieces any direction it feels like they forgot to add the flip or rotate to so many bits the nova engine strut for example why cant that be flipped to be placed on bottom, this update is decent but its a long way off what should have been already available

You get most of them by looting but if you don't open and read them it will never trigger the quest. When I loot I generally only grab the 500-700 value books and those open when you pick them up.

In the new features & improvements post, under New Ship Interior Customization Tools, the last sentence is: "This also lets you play around with your ship’s layout with more openings available for doorways." Maybe this is just for the empty habs, but it looks like some layout flexibility is coming.

Empty habs do have a different default connection points. If you watch the walkthrough, you notice that the blank habs actually have 2 doorways in some of the habs. I still have to do more testing, but its something.

Ok, so here are my questions, as a game dev: What happens when you move a hab that has a bunch of placed decorations? What happens when you try to delete that hab? Does the game warn you? What happens to the decorations themselves when the hab gets deleted? Do you get the resources back? Is there a way to save a decorated hab as a template, so that you can then duplicate that hab in other areas of the ship? Ex: bedrooms. It's bethesda, so I'm assuming it's a "no" on templates... let the modders do it. These are just some of the things I could think of rather quickly. I'm sure they've done some testing, but bethesda is not known for accounting for these situations in their game features.

@unikaosgame So... Placed a cooking station in an empty hab. Moved the hab to the other side of the ship, and the cooking station stayed where I placed it in the hab! There is no warning when you delete a hab with decorations in it, which kind of sucks. But on the good news, you do get your resources back for those deleted decorations that were in that hab. I can't complain about that. No templates, however. That would have been nice for sure. I bet a mod will come out that lets you save it, which would be awesome (especially if we can save and trade them).

What shield glitch? I did see them mention something about fixing an issue where a shields capacity is decreased when loading the game. Not sure if that is what you are talking about.

No the shield glitch is if you level up inside your ship, in your inventory the ship part will say something like 630, 960 ect, but your base shields are 1600, but you don't have that, Because whatever your ship inventory says your shields and weapons are, is what you have, it doesn't matter if your crew skill gives you 1,200 boost plus have a shield 1,600 shield generator which = 2,800 shields, if your ship inventory card says you have 960 shields that's your shields, so basically you can't fly that ship anymore, because you can't fix it until you go through new game plus... I am working to get to new game plus to see if they fixed it and I still have anymore problems like it... I stopped playing 23 day's after starfields launched, so maybe they did fix it, and I missed it... but I have to get to new game plus before all the bug's fixes take full affect on my game...

@@douglashalley9469 Interesting. I didn't know that was a bug. If it was happening at launch, and you haven't played since, it may be patched. I know their first few patches had a ton of bug fixes. I just can't remember if this was one of them.

They indicated that they just fixed this in this patch. This mainly happens if you've assigned Vasco to your ship at some point and then made and recalled a save in space. It may not have been 100% limited to those conditions. I had to sell and recreate my ship to fix the problem and I was also careful to level up when on the ground as well based on other things I've read and I haven't added Vasco to my crew. There is another problem with ship perks that I won't be able to check until after modding gets updated. The lock time for targeting varies all over the place. Default lock time is 3 seconds and if Targeting is at Rank 4 that should be reduced to 1.2 seconds (-60%). Last time I checked mine it was at 4.2 seconds and I had to manually reset it. Who knows how messed up all these buffs are in the skill tree? It's depressing.

The most important change we all need is vendors having bigger credits..... 5.000 or 12.000 at most is simoly not enough. The game becomes a boring grind due to having to constantly wait 48hrs sell and on and on. Vendors need around 50.000 or more.

This is now a setting in the game. I decided to test it out. Ran over to the Trade Authority on Neon. Spoke to him and with credits "Greatly Increases (max setting), he now had 62,500 in credits. One thing to note, this is in effect as you zone in. Changing it back down does not change the amount of credits in real time. Kind of like how you can up the difficulty before zoning into an instance to up the loot.

I didn't expect much, but was still disappointed. The city map looks good, but also feels kind of useless. There is no layout detail for the city apart from the isometric view featuring landmark buildings. An option for a topside view with roads and other layout details would have been nice to have. Especially, since the stores and other city POIs are too close to eachoter. It doesn't look like there is a zoom option, so if these POI icons are interactable, that might cause some problem with selecting the right one. Also are there interior maps as well - like a map for the Well? Additional gameplay rules and quality of life options are great! This might be the best feature of this update. The only thing I dislike is that everything has an impact on the XP gain. The XP gain should be a separate slider! The ship customization part is the most disappointing part. It is just decorating ship interiors :( What was needed instead: - Ladder placement - Door placement - New blocks for in-ship movement like elevators or vertical stairways - More ship building parts! - Cargo should be represented and accessible in the ship cargo bay - Additional ship functionality: usable med bay, that has impact on gameplay (improved survival features) prison cell functionality and added gameplay to capture criminals and lock them up in a cell, so you can deliver them to a prison facility also let us interact with the ship systems more - space combat rebalance (nerf or rework particle beams, so there is a point in using other weapons -> maybe introduce shield/armor types, that are good vs specific weapons, in a rock paper scissors pattern) - space game play rework, so we have more reason to stay in space currently it is just liftoff -> jump -> fight -> jump -> land having some space based locations to explore with your ship would be great also having some space based emergencies where you need to EVA to repair stuff or do something would also be great

The map does zoom in and out. I'm on PC so my middle mouse wheel did the scrolling. Every instance has a map, so if you zone into the Well, you get the Well map. As for the gameplay options, I have a feeling the XP was always part of the equation, just hidden. This brings it to full view and lets us min/max the XP grind. Say if you are doing crafting, just max out the XP and get to it. Its nice that its transparent like that. As for the customization, yes it would have been nice to get all of that. Even still, this little change will definitely change the way people design ships. Its a good change, with hopefully more to come.

@@TeamScorpioRI Nice. It's good that there is a zoom option. That makes the map much better. I still don't see, why the XP needs to be part of the equation. I like to play without impacting the XP gains and now I have to minmax the settings to get to an equilibrium. Yes, it's always great that the game is getting better. It's just they said that this is a big update and yet the features are not that impressive. The game needs a W to show people that it's worth coming back and buy the DLC. Compared to for example Palword or other smaller studios the updates and changes are happening painfully slow... despite Bethesda having a huge developer base. Lets hope that its just a design decision - focusing on bugfixes and QoL first and putting the new features in the DLC.

As much as I absolutely hate bethesda's guts right now I am almost tempted to reinstall Starfield just for this update. It's clear that the only thing bethesda's board of directors care about is Starfield and that they are intentionally letting Fallout 4, Skyrim and all their other titles die. they are murdering their old fan base just so they can hype up their starfield game. They fixed that in the last patch dude. I use a XBox controller on my pc and in the starmap just press the right button and it brings up all the names underneath all the stars, not sure what the keyboard command is as i don't use it in game.

Doors, no... ladders, you can kind of force into place by placing equipment plates or portholes where you want to block the ladder from spawning. Chairs you now can craft and place where you want.

As per usual BGS have added useless crap to the interior customization, lots of junk the crew will scatter all over the floors Ladders UGH!!! To be avoided like the plague unless they have a hatch at either the top, bottom or both top & bottom of them with no gaping hole to fall down

Not completely useless. You know can add all the crafting stations to a hab, so that means you really don't need the Workshop or the Lab for crafting. Also all the armory options are there so you can add those to a hab as well. Just these options alone give some small ship builds a nice little boost.

Trash empty game never will be good in any way. Best idea for game, good ship design but evrything ealse is bad in this game. Bethesda like always use SHORT-CUT And SABOTAGE own product. Any DLC or Update not change it never.

Can I start building a ship from scratch and save progress on creating it till it get all the pieces I want? I want to recreate HALO, Mass Effect, and Star Wars ships but not have to buy a whole new ship to build them.

Unfortunately, you still need a ship to build off of, and you need to get it all done in one shot. I usually grab the Rambler on New Atlantis for a starter ship. Its reasonable at 70k.. There is one ship out there that is like 30k to buy, but I only found it once so it may be random.

So I'm curious, can you only customize the blank ones or can I put one of the normal habs in place and then remove or remove thing? Honestly if you have to have resources to build things in the halves it seems to make more sense to just use one of the populated ones and then move things around to suit how you want them.

You can decorate prepopulated habs. It would make sense to decorate existing habs, and that is definitely going to be an option. But what if I want to have a REALLY big captains quarters.. Well, now I can take a 2x2 blank hab and customize it into what I want.

Two small goodies on the ship customization. One is this does apply to Starborn ships and you can put a bounty clearing terminal on your ship. Also you can decorate 1x1s. So you can put a bed on a tiny ship. On the vendor credits, the max setting seems to increase them a lot. TA kiosk I saw had 25k.

There is some at least some customization to starborn ships. At least I opened the customization window by clicking on the cube floating right behind the pilot’s seat. I didn’t have any resources on me to test it out though. I was wondering what that cube did. 😂 Hopefully I can finally put a bed in the thing…

Shame Bethesda wont allow what the mods do. The "Richer merchants" mod I've been using has increased this by an insane amount. The TA on the DEN has 8,000,000 (!) credits, meaning I can just loot a bunch of POIs and travel there and sell it all in one swoop 😀

Nah, I think that would be a little excessive. The TA on Neon, who normally has like 12k credits, went up to 62k credits. That is a healthy jump.

@@quadgon I'm using Commerce Perk Increases Vendor Credits. It's scaled with your commerce perk and can be set up with a 2x-4x-8x multiplier. I'm using 4x and TA's have 66000 credits with Rank 4 Commerce. I also use High Value Contraband that raises contraband value by 2.5x. Contraband just doesn't seem worth it when it's not worth any more than a decent rifle.

That would be cool! I think its probably due to the how the ship builder creates the ladders, but still I would love to say "don't place a ladder here" without resorting to putting a porthole over the hookpoint and glitching in the other hab. I'd also like to remove exiting decorations for the pre-populated habs. For example, I would love to take my last build (the Taiyo Starliner) and go into those captains quarters and just remove all the "cargo" from the back. But instead I would have to use blank habs and build each CQ separately.

Have they added any skins for space suits i always found it a bit sad that you dont get to keep all the starborn suits or at least have them as skins for the suit

Great news !! They fixed one of my biggest complaint. I can change traits now. I am so tired of my parents and regret my choices. Also maps and new ship building looking forward to playing the new update. Good video man thanks for the update.

Thanks for the reply :) i do have one question. Have you tested the new habs if it keeps your stuff like you want it after you update the ship. I was always scared before putting my armor on the mannequins because if i change my ship any. It would rest the inside my ship and i would loose stuff

Until you go NG+ you can al least talk to your dad and tell him you can't send money anymore. That will give you the option to end the trait in your current play-through.

Nope. It was tested and it does not! There was a Reddit post about this and everything now stays put (including weapons on the weapon racks)

I am guessing its due to a development priority. Not saying that door and ladder placement is not a priority (its probably the #1 request with ship building), but it would require a code rewrite to add as it is new functionality. The hab customization was already in the game in the form of outposts and apartments, so it was easy to adapt it to ships (and it might have been there all along, but turned off as we had that issue with the habs resetting when we switched ships... which is now fixed). In one of the Bethesda clips, we see them working on the DLC, so I think the majority of the resources are going there.. for now.
