You do not have to unhook the straps in the back.

I have a small piece that came off when taking off the back part, it says that I cannot wash it and just use a wipe clean with a damp cloth. Do you know where this goes?

Took me half an hour to figure out. I'm fairly certain It goes on the headrest under the pad. The bottom white plastic tab goes under the Styrofoam and the loops go under the headrest position tab and loops on the back at the same spot the head rest cover loops top. It's the perfect size for it and zero instruction videos show where it goes otherwise..

That’s what I do with this one. Although you may want to look it up and make sure it doesn’t interfere with the function of the car seat.

You'll miss so much nasty food and throw up if you don't take it father apart. After having one for 5 years and another for 3 years it builds up bad. Take the back off by lifting the red tabs and pulling them together. Have it reclined as far as possible while doing this. It won't come off in the most reclined positions. 5 or 4 of possible and you'll see it all, 6 hides too much and 1-3 prevent the back from separating from the seat.
