Mornin Jesse! Good call!! It is difficult to see for sure but didnt look like BO is the glimpse I got. Many folks like to place a wad under bullet or over powder. Two reasons. 1) to act as a gas check just to add a lil insulation for the base of the bullet. 2) To hold small quantities of powder against the primer 3) in BP to keep powder compressed as compression is needed in black powder loads.

I never seen smokeless powders make the inside of a case so nasty. That’s why I figured it’s was black powder. I’ve never messed with black powder. I really don’t ever want to mess with it lol.

@@jesseboutdoors It is messy. Those wads could have been lubed and caused that or who knows case lube?? Anything possible like how he got bullets so crooked in the cases?!? Also just compressing some powders really can compact them. I have had to almost chisel powder out!

While would never shoot someone else's unknown "work", I love black powder and load those more than anything. Cleanup isn't that bad. Soap and water, followed by some ballistol and you're good to go. Just don't wait too long after shooting to clean them.

I'll tell on myself and illustrate why you should never shoot unknown reloads. About 35 years ago a guy gave me some of his reloads. He even told me take them apart. But being and stupid I decided to shoot them. One round was all it took. Luckily I wasn't hurt and my gun was repairable. Turns out the rounds were loaded with two different types of powder. Lesson stupidly learned.

I had a Cimarron Thunderer I bought at a SHOT shiw in the 90s...shot BP . 45 LC Rounds ...never shot BP before efire snd got about 40 rounds downrange before the cylinder locked up due to extreme fouling...

Just might’ve been a beginner loader a lot of books say to start out loading black powder even in a couple books from Elmer Keith suggest starting with black powder and looking at the bullets and the light crimp it was definitely a beginning reloader

I was wondering where these rounds came from, did you get them from a friend, then he should have told you they are loaded with black powder, or just appeared out of nowhere then you should not have messed with them.

I got them from a friend. They were given to him and he didn’t ask about them. He knew I was looking for 45 colt brass so he gave them to me. Plus you shouldn’t really fire unknown rounds. Your body and gun are more important.
