Thanks for stopping by, today we are taking apart the newly released 2DS XL from Nintendo. Overall the design is interesting with the motherboard being much larger than the New 3DS XL board. The top screen was also made thin with an interesting placement of screws.

That circular thing in the top panel is probably a magnet so it can detect when the system is closed. Normally they use the magnets from the speakers to do that, but this time the speakers aren't in the top panel.

Yep, it's because the speakers are in the bottom, so they needed include a separate magnet

That grey thing is a magnet used to force the console into Sleep Mode. Originally, the speakers of the 3DS acted as magnets, but they're on the bottom now, so there needs to be mangets now. That cable you were questioning was the button screen backlight cable.

Thats exactly what it is, there is a Hall-Effect sensor in the base near the ABXY buttons. You can verify that with a fridge magnet.

The batteries should be easily accessible, becouse the one i had for my new 3ds lasted until now since its realies like 2 years ago and had to replace it. Soemthing that concerns me about the switch.

That round thing on the top screen is a magnet. Since the speakers aren’t on the top screen anymore and they used to serve as a magnet of sorts before a magnet is now necessary so that closing the system puts it in sleep mode.

The round thing you did not know what is, that is most likely a magnet. The system uses it to know if the lid is closed.

The thingy in the top screen is a magnet to activate sleep mode. No speakers are in the top screen(which have magnets) so Nintendo had to put one there to activate it.

People seem shocked by the this DS not having an easy user replaceable battery....why you ask? Because Nintendo wants your money, that's why it went back to tri tip screws, an inaccessible battery and a different board layout. They dont want users trying to fix issues. They want you sending it in so they can charge you $60 everytime or force you to buy a new 2DS XL for $150 a pop. It's a flimsy model made to be a cash grab.

Ugg. I was cleaning my 2ds and put windex on a paper towel to wipe it down and when I got done I started playing and realized that some got inside the top screen! It's all wet and bright and discolored. I am so bummed. I don't know what to do. I hope it dries and is fine but I doubt it. They are so expensive now it's crazy.

The reason I want to pull ours apart is the the plastic volume button is broken. Where do you buy new ones that are reputable? Also what is the size of the triangle screw. Is it possible to just buy square or Philips to replace them when putting it back together?

2DS XL shells are kind of hard to find. Unlike the 3ds, 3ds xl and new 3ds xl, there are no after market shells for these. That I've seen anyway and I have looked extensively. Only way to get them is buy a 2ds xl for parts, or if you're lucky, someone will have some parts for sale. Which is a shame for anyone who wants to shell swap a 2DS XL.

I need to ask you a question. I'm thinking of getting a 2ds but hate the thought of mono sound & don't use headphones. Do you think adding a second speaker would be fairly easy opposite the one it comes with? I've never seen anyone do it which surprises me. I've seen so many reviews that I've come to the conclusion that the original 2ds is the most comfortable handheld Nintendo offers today & plus now that the Zelda edition is coming out at a measly $80 I'm thinking about getting it and retiring my primary launch Mar 2011 3ds which still runs like a champ I just don't like the buttons that well and the thumb cramps after mario kart ds game session with family.

What about the two ribbon cables you didn't show being unhooked? One by the C-stick and the other above the cartridge slot. I lifted up the "tabs" and now they don't go back down like they're bent lol. I'm sure I just ruined it but if that isn't how you're supposed to remove the cables then how do you do it?

Is the amiibo support a stand-alone system or merged with other wireless capabilities? I didn't see it in the video, but I imagine there has to be some sort of transceiver plus an energizer.

I remember with the CTR-001 Nintendo 3DS you had to use a hair dryer to get into the top screen. GOD, I wreaked a broken 3DS's top screen doing that, but luckly the top screen was the thing broken XD

I think this video inspired me to (partially) take apart a Singer Izek sewing machine (the one that connects with the Gameboy) that I recently picked up on eBay. The pedal is not working, and there is no communication with the GameLink cable. Just as you mentioned on the charging port for the New 2DS XL, the jack is not well placed. And I do wish the GameLink cable a bit more modular. At the moment, I am chalking up the inability to communicate with the machine to the Gameboy I am using, and the fact I using an alternative version of the software.

Jose Rachi It more than likely broke off and can't be put back. That's why you have to super careful when taking these things apart. Honestly, I'd recommend an adhesive strip or tape to hold the ribbon cable in place after you insert it, but maybe there's a better method that I don't know about.

Just bought one from Wal-Mart! Will trade in my original 3DS now....Thought buying a New 3DS XL but thought better since this is cheaper and just brilliant! Now, just the games.....Which won't happen until very much later! Not that there aren't games to play...It just...Well, you try to work on Crash: N'Sane Trilogy, FF XII, ARMS, Mass Effect: Andromeda, and now Splatoon 2 at the sametimes here..........And in Aug. you can toss in Mario vs. Rabbids: Deluxe edition into the mix. Come later, you got Mario Odyssey, Skyrim: Switch, and Star Wars: Battlefront II also......! Not fun!
