There was a weird internal war with Nintendo fans when the Switch came out. One side didn't want to let go of the Wii U and 3DS and took offense to all the ports Switch was picking up from those systems. Then there were the super-Switch fans that were upset that the 3DS continued to get new games and shouted down anyone that dared speak well of the old systems. For myself, I saw the Switch was the way forward, even though I was disappointed the Wii U never got to reach its potential and died too soon. BUT... While I love my Switch, it never supplanted the 3DS as my go to portable. When I want to game outside of my house, it's my 3DS I take with me, not the Switch. It's not just the form factor, but most of the games, having been designed from the ground up knowing they'd have to be played handheld, just seem to work better as something you play on the go.
@MintleafCakes5 ай бұрын
@@ressljs yeah i can completely see where youre coming from. i love my switch in its own right, but something about it just doesnt really hit the same as the 3ds for me. and so, i never stopped playing my 3ds. ive used it so much that the circle pad started deteriorating and fell off. my screen has two spots on it that are all scratched up from when i was young and used a mechanical pencil as a stylus. theres scrapes on the shoulder buttons from when i dropped it outside my childhood home a couple times. but through all that, it sticks with me. maybe its a nostalgia bias, or maybe something about it really is different from the switch. i dont know for sure. but i love it all the same, and i think i will until the day it just wont run anymore. the charging port got busted up a bit at some point so it already needs to be held at a certain angle to charge lol. but thats ok, ill never mind that. my 3ds is like an old friend who ill always be happy to see no matter the condition.

What a fantastic adventure of Streetpassing. Even if not as popular as its heyday, it does go to show that this type of social connection is still an important part of people's lives. Seeing everyone at that Streetpass meet at PAX, for instance. So many looked like they were enjoying the hunt for connections and those they'd got. I'm with you on that this is something I'd love for the Switch successor to have. Perhaps with a secondary device for those who wouldn't want to carry the console around but still interested with engaging in the fun of Streetpass.

Man, this brings me back. Streetpass was an underrated, awesome feature of the 3DS that I loved to bits when the system was popular. I always had 3DS on me during my commute to school, and while working in a local theme park. It was always fun to run into people and have them help me out in games, while my Mii was helping out in theirs. Especially during the commute, since there would be certain people I would run into almost daily, it felt like I was making a stronger connection with them every time we met. Sadly I never really met up with them physically, but the idea that we knew that the other would be there to StreetPass with was a wholesome feeling regardless.

I Even Had 2 Friends Who Also LOVED StreetPass their names were Aiden and Aedin you always got streetpasses from each other as we're about to go to Daycare! And I sometimes even Got streetpasses By going to restaurants Parties and passing through conventions! I Had my old 3DS and 2DS Until 2020 When They Both Got caught by that stupid blackout screen glitch (the glitch happens when I press the power button to turn it on and it just turns back off...) BUT I still have my 3DS and 2DS as mementos reminding me how many friends I've made just with this simple console. It's Now 2024 And 15 Years old Now! I'm trying To Get a Modded 3DS (and possibly 2DS) To Bring Back the Golden Glory Days! As a streetpass veteran myself I want to Say That if You decide to put your 3DS up on the shelf and Retire we'll keep it as a little memento or still keep hunting for Streetpasses...Just Know That The 3DS Will always be With You in Your Heart! As someone who's been carrying their 3DS with them everywhere for StreetPass since January 2022, I've been waiting for this video since the day it was announced. And let me just say it lived up to the hype! When I was a kid I used to be crazy obsessed with StreetPass back in it's heyday, and around the time we were able to start going outside again I randomly decided one day to start taking my 3DS with me everywhere again because I just missed seeing that little green light. It's always been a goal of mine to one day collect every puzzle piece since I didn't even come close as a kid. I couldn't really go anywhere back then but now as an adult I can actually go to places so I wanted to finish what I had started on a brand new system (because I wanted a fresh start). Sadly I quickly found out that StreetPasses were pretty rare then so I would go months on end without receiving a new tag, and when I would they wouldn't have any new puzzle pieces for me, so I was hoping that some day StreetPass would make a grand return and I'd one day meet that goal I had back then as a kid. And this all kinda just happened right at the perfect time of my life, I had graduated from high school in the middle of lockdown and wasn't able to really see any of my old friends again in person for close to two years (and even then we didn't really get to see each other that often) so I was pretty lonely and was looking for some way to kinda expand my social circle. Back when I was in school I would always use video games as a way to connect with new people and make friendships, so even something like StreetPass would've helped me a ton in a time like this. Things only got worse since I started college though, nobody I met there really seemed to care about video games (at least from what I gathered) and the people that did kept saying stuff like "Why don't you just get a Switch?" when they'd see me playing on my 3DS. Needless to say, I didn't get a single StreetPass hit there, my teachers were mean to everyone, I didn't feel like I was really learning anything there and was just wasting my time, I was unhappy. It does kinda suck that I missed out on this huge initial StreetPass resurgence because I was so busy with classes and homework and a huge move and this family emergency all happening together right at once, I rarely was able to leave my house and if I did it was usually only to go to my classes because I was just constantly on the clock and always busy. I really wanted to go more places in 2023 to take advantage of all this but just, couldn't. Thankfully though everything's starting to slowly get better for me. I decided that college wasn't really working for me at the moment and I was able to convince my parents to let me pursue an alternative path so I now feel more free and in control of my life again. And even when I was trapped in college I did notice that whenever I was able to get out and about the likelihood of me getting a StreetPass was much higher than it was back in 2022, granted I only really went out and got StreetPasses on nights when I knew a ton of people would be out and about like New Years and Super Bowl Sunday. I still wish I could've gone out and met some new friends during all this, especially since there wasn't really any conventions or anything interesting happening near me so it's not like there was a guaranteed place I could get StreetPasses from and form these connections. Despite all that though I'm really excited for the future of StreetPass. Thanks to your efforts and the efforts from several other people I've been seeing a lot more love and appreciation for the 3DS and StreetPass, and that shows in the amount of hits I've been getting lately. For a while I've always wanted to start my own sorta Nintendo meetup get-together group type thing kinda similar to what the StreetPass meetups of old were like, but I've never really been able to commit to it due to a lack of time and/or resources. But now that I'll have a lot more time I'm thinking about trying to start one again where people can meet up and just play Switch/3DS/DS, just Nintendo games from every era. And hey even if things don't work out there's also that new Nintendo store opening next year in San Fran that's like an hour away from where I live and ridiculously cheap to get to via public transportation. If it's like the New York store where they have launch parties and direct watch-alongs, then I'm sure I'll at least get a few StreetPasses from there every now and then and maybe form some connections with others over there. At the very least I'm really looking forward to being able to complete at least some of my StreetPass puzzles in the next few years, and if you're still reading this long comment Zion, thanks for bringing StreetPass back. I can't wait to see what the future holds.

1:20:18 hey that’s me at SGDQ last year! that week was a Strestpass goldmine, so much fun haha. But wow I couldn’t help smiling through this whole video! The feeling of getting a Streetpass is genuinely like a little spark of joy. Life is all about making connections, and letting each other know we’re not alone- and I think Streetpass embodies that sentiment so well. Mad respect for Zion’s dedication and for sharing his year’s adventures with us through this massive project. I’m definitely traveling with my 3DS long into the future, and hopefully Nintendo will revive the feature in its new system soon… :0

I will always approve the continued use of legacy systems, it would be hella awesome if Streetpass worked like amiibo, in the sense that amiibo works on 3DS, Wii U and Switch, imagine if the next system's streetpass works with 3DS, or maybe make a home made system that gives streetpass things like the old Nintendo Zones, that would be something interesting to look at, that retro game stores could do.

I brought my 3ds to my high school almost everyday freshman year and gathered together a total of 30 something street passes from high school that year alone

Didn't know what to expect going into this video, but after 1 hour and 18 minutes in i must say awesome job. Kinda makes me want to take my 3DS with me again as well..still wish the eshop wasn't dead though. And i think using the 2DS to complete other goals is a good idea, i get wanting to keep it as a memento, but it could be your StreetPass journey DS regardless of what new goals you decide

I didn't go on a journey but I was able to get 3 StreetPasses myself last year and it was all random encounters. I hardly took my 3DS out as well! There's definitely still hope for the 3DS.

What a journey it’s been. I’ve hardly ever used Streetpass myself, but you know what, I’m inclined to give it a go the next time I’m out and about. You’re living your best life, Zion, and I’m happy you shared some of that with us!

I was so sad when I accidentally broke my Zelda themed 3DS from when I was a kid because that thing meant so much to me, but seeing this video fixed my broken heart because aside from KZbin, not a lot of people talk about Streetpass

I take my 3DS to conventions, on holiday to pass the time on flights, to big events, and to places like arcades, it's been fun gathering streetpasses! Very fun to see someone else who's doing the same thing. I love the 3DS/2DS systems and I'm happy people are still "keeping it alive", so to speak

I checked my street pass on my first and only 3DS I got back at launch and was surprised at how many ppl I had passed and how few puzzle pieces I had missing, this video was quite entertaining and nostalgic I remember during college getting passes was very common and fun just wish I had gotten the extra games and such 😭
