After all of the hard work and memories they give us over the years they sure deserve to stay healthy and have purpose in their golden years! daily Previcox works like a charm for my old guy too - great tip 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Thank you for your advice on how to care for older horses! That sprain up heart felt emotions for me! I have owned my Morab for 22 years. Used to compete in Western pleasure; Showmanship and English. He is 26 years old and I’m still riding him 2 or three days a week. And no health issues so far. Have him on MSM joint support. But I have learned from you that I should cut his food back just a little. Thanx for your great advice,⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Hi again MATT Heartfelt thx for doing this vid!! So many people give up on then and send them to slaughter! If they're not totally heartless they put them out and do nothing with them! Breaks one's heart to see that kind of neglect waiting for them to die that way. Some won't take the time money or have the patience to do what's right or honor what their horse did for them. Sadly in some cases that includes areas of horseracing dressage barrels reiners too. By making this vid hopefully you might save a few or give pause to do the right thing or at least surrender them for another chance at life. I hope and pray that someday when they are old that someone doesn't throw them away or badly abuse them. It's said what goes around comes around. Just desserts are tough... Thx again MATT.

Good older horses are worth their weight in gold. I have a 21 yr old mare that is rock steady for younger riders. She gave me all she had in the show pen and earned a ton of points. If she had not gone 90% blind she would still kick butt in the show pen. Now she packs the grand around and will do great in lead line.

This is so true, my horse Dude is 27, I’ve had him for 21 years and older horses need love. Horses that love working and their jobs need to stay busy and still have a purpose, I’ve kept Dude under mild showing since he was about 20, he’s gotta be on a break he also just went through acute laminitis in February this year be has been sound since April but he’s been on rest until i can get that pedal bone correct to where i feel he is safe to ride, its honestly the only major health issue he has had in all these years and i have been so blessed but he is not happy about being stalled and not ridden he absolutely needs his job, I can’t wait to start riding again and this video is a good reminder of that, thank u!

My 25 year old has some arthritis now and we have just put her on Equioxx this week. I'm hopeful to start riding her around soon just to keep her moving. When I ride her now I literally stop pretty frequently and say thank you and I love you. Thankfully I've grown up with people who knew the importance of turnout even for performance horses so she loves her field time and will even come find me in a 14 acre field. Even in the pitch black.

We need our older schoolmates to show our students the ropes . Yes . It takes some extra care , daily maintenance & figuring out what they need to remain sound but personally , I'm not a fan of kicking a showhorse out to the pasture . They normally do hate it & I don't blame them ! I'm going to get in trouble for saying this but I'm not a fan of trail riders & how they ride their horses . What these people do out here with their horses is not conducive to keep one happy, sound & kept like a showhorse is used to . ( There . I said it . ) Thanks Matt for another lovely , sound video !

My retired Reiner is 19 and this video hit close to home ❤️ I have been giving him equioxx, adequan, smartpak senior and smartpak vitamins minerals. He rides like a horse half his age, it was great to hear you say you are using the same with your seniors. He’s ridden once or twice a week and is turned out 24/ 7 except in Summer Florida months he’s in during the day. We are starting to do western dressage as reiners love a pattern 😉 Thanks for remembering our retired Reiners! I am a member of your online and really enjoy it and have learned a lot!

Love this. I have a middle aged mare with horrible arthritis in her knees, one worse than the other. Not rideable. But I maintain her with a joint supplement and one bute tab a day. Also have a 30 something year old with no joint issues at all. He’s got a handful of teeth left but he looks great.

I only do beginner lessons and absolutely prefer using a retired reining horse! They have that "been there done that" attitude and have all the buttons to create an incredible, confident rider that will go on to love reining. We do the same exercise plan, rode once or twice a week gently, turned out for an hr or so depending on her mood, but definitely stall kept. Also we have added Platinum Performance Wellness for joint & tummy support. If someone prefers their reiner have an easy life after showing where they are loved and gently used so they feel they still have a job then send them to me! 💜💜💜
