check out the hay pillow, basically a hay bag that you can throw on the ground......

That's a great suggestion, thanks for letting me know. I'll get into it more soon but we try not to put any bags just out on the ground as horses aren't exactly coordinated or smart or intuitive (or all of the above) as they'll drag it through manure and urine etc.. Always looking for something better though, hard to find just the right thing to meet all requirements and limitations. I'll take a look to see what they have to say about that maybe as they must have thought of that as well. You can take a normal hay bag too and tie it and stuff the string inside kind of thing. I've done it, it works well and is good for feeding as they have to kick it around and stuff. Good entertainment..

Thank you I am needing to figure this out this week , my new 4 month old Colt is Named Bear too 😉🐻 and I was warned about the placement of the bag too low . Would a Baby Horse need smaller need maybe a Box type slow feeder ? What are your thoughts on the Box Slow Feeder ? They have a net covering over the top . 💜🐴

I don't like them much myself but I don't see anything wrong depending on their design. The bag being low is fine as long as they can't get their hoof caught in the loop of the rope hanging it. That's all. 2 incg holes are too small for any of that problem.

Great videos! Can I ask what type of footing do you use in your paddocks?

Thank you! The material is called crusher dust. It's essentially fine gravel to sand like material. Packs well.

The paddocks vary in size from about 40x40 to bigger.. I think the back paddock is closer to 60x60 and the forest is about 70x40

do you let them give kisses to yoy when you are cuddling them?

I think you might be referring to just the idea of the horse putting their mouth on me. I don't believe horses kiss in the sense that we think about it for humans, so I interpret it differently. Perhaps this will a viewpoint that is unusual, not sure, but I'll give it a go and you can take from it what you will :) Having a horse put their mouth on any part of my body or clothing would be seen to me as a form of grooming in the right circumstance. Any other circumstance it would be seen as a request for me to move. If I haven't "asked" for it, then I discourage it as quickly as I can when I see it coming. If I start the grooming process by just rubbing their back or mane and they want to reciprocate then sometimes I'll let them do a small amount but it's dangerous and I don't want them used to the idea that it's ok to do whenever. They start with their lips but move to their teeth because when they co-groom, that's one of the ways they tell the other horse to "scratch harder", by grooming harder themselves. That can hurt and leave scarring if really bad. Also, I don't want them ever thinking they can do that to children so it's a really careful thing to think about.

Off topic a little i watched a video of a wild horse and her baby foal The mare got her back hoof caught in her long mane her mane was very tangled she got her foot caught in it Someone saw her foot caught and reported it Some guy went out to look and he untangled her hoof for her Was not a nice to watch the mare like that but good job to the guy to untangle her hoof for her

Hi Debbie, that's a good story. There are bigger problems than shoes getting caught, I recall another story on how a horse got their hoof caught in a halter and completely tore up it's back leg muscles trying to get it off after just trying to scratch it's head (probably because of the halter...) Not just the fronts to think about!
