Three things I'd like Thespio to consider: 1. None of the damage Starlight did was permanent any more than the damage Discord did. 2. Nightmare Moon, Discord, and Tirek forced Twilight and her friends to defeat them. Starlight was the first villain to both surrender and show willingness to answer for her actions. That deserves some recognition. 3. Suppose Starlight refused Twilight's offer: would Twilight have let her go free?

Discord is chaos incarnate, there's no rhyme or reason to much of anything he does, his very existence is beyond their understanding, so that might make him harder to empathize with. Besides, ponies befriended Tempest and she's not exactly normal-looking by pony standards.

The points in the video don’t make much sense either. It would be boring if two reformations were treated the same and Starlight gave herself up, was extremely remorseful from the beginning of her change and she was only trying to rule one village and break up one friendship for revenge when it was ruined. She did not know how bad the other futures were until Twilight showed her and people in her villages volunteerd originally. She went much too far which is different from Discord enjoying doing destructive things and generally causing distress to people if it was funny. They are different characters. The issue with Starlight’s reformation was the pacing in Cutie-Reamark was off so it was too sudden and she is pretty similar to Sunset so it too a while for new Starlight to feel natural.

That's what happens when a character is handled kinda poorly. Starlight's "backstory" kinda shot her in the hoof, because it made her come off as incredibly childish and shortsighted, and a lot of her episodes rehash the same problem of her using magic for a "quick fix" to a problem that she herself is manufacturing. Most of the time. Her best episodes in my opinion are the ones involving her relationship with Trixie, and how they adapt to each other, and that one Equestria Girls episode where she went to the human world with Sunset Shimmer (speaking of, I want more of that story line). And sadly this fandom is super critical of the decisions made by the writers, so there was no way they weren't going to jump on that. I mean, it's like pre-season five Fluttershy all over again, only less likable and adorable.

I kind of like Starlight, due to identifying with the awkwardness, anger expression issues, and the having trouble making more than one or two close friendships. But... Yeah. I'm with Firebrand and Thespio on her start in the series. She literally attacked children repeatedly to get revenge on Twilight. Definitely a rocky start, which is why many don't like her much. But she is improving, slowly, and especially when paired with Maud for an episode.

I like her. In terms of her reformation she is the only reformed villain not to be defeated. She was winning. All she had to do was rip that spell in half and she'd have defeated Twilight, but she realised what she was doing had consequences, gave up the victory and surrendered herself into Twilight's custody. Also, let's compare her crimes to Discord's. Starlight used brainwashing and manipulation to control a village, convincing herself that it was what was best for them. She was horribly, horribly wrong of course. After that fell apart she decided to get revenge on the pony she saw as most responsible, not realising the extent of her actions. Discord took over Equestria, made ponies act out whatever actions amused him and didn't care at all about any of the ponies he manipulated. Everything he did as a villain was because he thought it was fun. He's never been shown to regret his actions as a villain, he's just as likely as Starlight was in season six to abuse his powers and he ended up falling back into full blown villain mode. Yet he gets more of a pass than Starlight and the only reasons I can see for it are that he's funny and he's a much less realistic sort of villain. Discord couldn't exist in the real world, but Starlight was a much more grounded villain (as grounded as this show can get anyway). She ran a cult in the middle of nowhere and swore revenge when things didn't go her way. Remove the time travel aspect and it's all pretty mundane real world stuff. And this comment is getting way too long, so to sum up, yeah, I like Discord. He's amusing, but his actions were far more evil than Starlight's ever were and he seems to have changed the least. Starlight feels guilty for her actions and is shown to be scared of slipping into her old ways. Discord? Not so much, but he's funny and silly so he gets a pass.

This is a pretty underrated episode Not convinced with that Starlight argument, plus there is a distinct difference between Starlight and Discord: Discord was evil because he was a selfish jerk, Starlight was evil due to past trauma and losing hope. Unlike Discord she actually had a reason she became corrupt and when she finally realized her errors she wanted to redeem herself; whereas Discord was happy to stay how he was even after befriending Fluttershy and it took being betrayed by Tirek to finally snap him out of his ego and selfishness.

It's unfair to compare their arcs because their so different from each other. Clearly the way Discord needs to be redeemed isn't the same as how Starlight needed to be.

I absolutely agree with you on that one. It makes more sense to me to try to trust and even reform a villain, like Starlight was, who is pissed off at the world instead of Discord who is just goofing around like an idiot just for the hell of it while making others miserable.

That russia joke is actually spot on. despite the middle eastern name of their country the yaks culture seems to be a fusion of old russian and mongolian as noted by their accents and garb along with the style of their huts also known as yurts. As well as the name of their prince and their homeland being a frozen and mountainous region much like parts of russia and mongolia as is the native habitat of real life yaks were they are used as beasts of burden and livestock

Was the Starlight rant really necessary? As the Guest Star said themselves "Everyone's sick and tired of hearing it." Hell, you could even *argue* that Discord's reformation (And the hiccups within) led to the Mane 6 being much more accepting of Starlight, knowing that they way they act *can* influence someone you're trying to get on your side. Hell, after the *embodiment of chaos,* I think anyone would be a bit more accepting of someone like Starlight due to how their mindsets as villains work. Plus, the last thing this fandom needed after Starlight's reformation was an episode where she pulled a "haha, you fools!" and went Face again, due to how she felt like an outcast despite the Mane 6's efforts. I don't know, do you know why they treated Starlight better? Was it casual racism? Experience/ Because they didn't want to focus on Starlight throughout Season 5 as a consistent and looming threat in order to keep the lighter tone of the series? *Nobody knows!*

He's basing it off DnD 5th edition rules. There, wizards use intelligence (book learning, logic, memorization) as their spellcasting modifier. Wisdom is more world awareness in 5e--you're able to perceive the connections of the world on an instinctual level. Its more intuitive and is used by clerics (who interpret and draw power from their gods), druids (who draw power from nature), and rangers (same as druids) as their spellcasting modifier.

8:30 if they are using a level system that goes over 20 it is possible that the levels go up to 50 or 100 so a lv 20 charater in a 100 lv game would be like starting a DND player off at around lv 5 or 10. it would make be ok starting around DnD Lv5 as it means you would have your archetype and a few things to build on it.
