The problem is that having a different opinion and wishing someone harm are by fact two seperate things-it shouldnt need to be pointed out to people who are ignorant to the idea of having a different opinion and treating people equally and kindly being two seperate sentiments. The fact that people inherently mix to the two things is not the fault of the person in question saying a...controversial opinion. Its kind of like the idea of someone saying "critics always need to point out in their reviews that their opinion is just their opinion" when why would someone go to see a critics review unless you wanted to hear someone elses opinion anyway-it kind of comes with the territory-it also comes with the territory that critics sound like they are trying to be objective because they want to sound professionally like they know what they are talking about...which is what is expected when you are a more professional critic that is more educated and informed (or have more experience in the field of film or have at least seen more films) than the casual moviegoer.... There are certain ideas one should just know ahead of time- like knowing a professional may sound like they are trying to be the end all say on a films quality but thats their job and it is just another opinion-just like people shouldn't assume someone saying a different opinion means they wish harm on someone or straight hate them-there are just certain expectations that should and shouldn't automatically be there.

James Wallberg Me and a friend of mine one day had a huge conversation about so many different controversial topics and when we finished he said, “Thx for not going crazy and keeping it mature.” Then we had a conversation about that for a while and it ended in us both agreeing that most Debates are just sad. There’s really no peaceful end for both parties and it seemed like the possible solution would require both parties to be humble and willingly lower themselves. The main problem being pride. Both parties are too prideful, and if one party even remotely TRIES to cool down the situation, the other party just sees it as weakness and as usual, ATTACKS, and that only repeats the cycle of PRIDEFUL vs PRIDEFUL scenario.

While I respect and appreciate your opinion josh, I still can't agree with you on this episode, because while many of Applejack's characteristics are on display here, like her pride, and stubbornness, it forgets another aspect of her character that is sorely missing: her appreciation of hard-work. In "Suited for Success," Applejack helped the rest of the mane six make a dress for Rarity, as an apology for making her make dresses that she knew were horribly designed. In "Magical Mystery Cure," she actually HAD Rarity's cutie mark for a while and was trying desperately to create dresses that were fashionable. And she was sweat-shopped by Rarity TWICE in season 4, in '"Rarity Takes Manehattan," and "For Whom the Sweetie Belle Toils." It's reasonable that she'd still consider fashion to be silly after all of that, but it's inconceivable that she wouldn't have an appreciation for how much work goes into fashion.

In my opinion another good lesson would have been criticizing should be a gateway to improvement, not a brick wall. An example is the buttons. Yeah! It would totally suck to button up all those buttons every single morning, but maybe instead of just saying to remove all the buttons they talked for a while and eventual came to the conclusion to pre-sew the buttons so you don’t have to do them.
@wattsink20095 жыл бұрын
Truce Truce I definitely agree. Some critics can be a little harsh, and it always hurts a little to hear criticism of something you feel passionate about. But without criticism or contradicting opinions, we would just be surrounded by people constantly agreeing with our narrow view of the world and validating each other’s egos (like what the so-called professional critics have been doing for the Live-Action Disney Remakes lately). A few artists like myself often look for criticism out of a subconscious desire to make our art better than it is.

Telling her she's suppose to use the patterns to get the size right, put the pieces on the mannequin to make sure they are in the right places, and that for the sets she should clean the brushes between colors. This episode really spoke to me because I've been in Applejack's position. I was often told that I am too honest for my own good when I was a kid because I always spoke my opinion with literally no filter which usually ended up with me inadvertently hurting a lot of feelings. However being a kid I never understood why people got so upset until I got older and began receiving critiques on my artwork. I realised there was a fine line between an honest opinion and a constructive criticism. An honest opinion is just that; an opinion, its subjective to every individual. But Constructive Criticism takes the Artist's style, vision and mindset into consideration which forms into advice that allows the Artists to reflect on themselves and their work. Rarity was looking for Constructive Criticism. What AJ gave was Brutal Honesty.

1:00 I literally burst out laughing at that, that is so damn funny and for a Kirin, you are straight fire I think that this episode could’ve done better with a double moral, learn how to take criticism and how to dish out criticism when needed. I make my art solely on criticisms of my best friend who enjoys art like me, but wants me to be better and I go to him whenever I need to be given constructive criticism on my work. I trust him to give it to me honestly, and not openly give me praise for it. He knows how much work goes into perfecting your art style and mine is getting better and better because I refuse to give up, I refuse to put down the pencil and paper and say I quit. I know art is hard and it’s the thing that I love, not everything is sunshine and rainbows. So, this is one episode that needs a double moral in my opinion, taking and giving criticism. 21:40

I've got a friend like that too. They're a bit blunt and harsh but still give good constructive criticism by telling me whats wrong, and what I could tweek or change. Probably the only person who's given me an honest critique without being an absolute 'yay' about it. And I've had a good number of those... My friend's been the one I go to to cry about it and be frustratingly told 'they're right, but just chose harsher words'. But I find even some of the best delivered criticism can be hard to take, especially if you're new to it. I have thrown my pencil, or sketchbook, and been so frustrated I exit a a document I'm writing in. Feeling like some massive failure, wanting to give up... Sometimes I do... For a little bit at least. It's hard to completely stop doing things you love and that you use to express yourself.

Maybe I just liked the episode itself too much, but something about this review felt a little... ...lack luster. I was really expecting that Firebrand or his collaborator would have bigger reactions to Applejack ruining Lily Lace’s hat or Strawberry Sunrise’s adorably savage comments on apples. I do love this episode for the most part, but my biggest problem with the episode was Applejack herself. I was okay with Applejack’s portrayal in this episode, up until she destroys Lily Lace’s hat. I know the fandom likes to use the phrase “out-of-character” too much (and often inappropriately), but that really was uncharacteristically mean for Applejack! I get Firebrand’s explanation for how her behavior in the latter half of this episode is still part of her character, but I can’t help but feel that a character flaw this broad should have been addressed much earlier in the show. Seeing Applejack suddenly act this toxic towards someone she has been friends with for several years now, and somehow being oblivious to the damage her “honesty” is doing to Rarity and her fellow artists, feels like major character regression. I definitely agreed with most of the observations made here, especially regarding criticism vs sensitivity. I’ve recently had my own difficulty with this subject on social media. I usually try to be sensitive and open-minded with my opinions, but when it comes to a subject that I am extremely knowledgeable and passionate about (namely hand-drawn animation and movies I’ve grown up with), I’m sometimes unsure how to make a passionate and informed argument, without sounding like I’m shooting down opposing opinions or bullying others into sharing my opinion. I have recently encountered a few people (who I will not name out of respect) who seem to have the impression that I always sound like I’m bullying others into sharing my opinion on the aforementioned subject.

Thank you, Joshua. Your comparison to Chef Ramsey shows you KNOW where he's coming from. Thank you! So many just see him at his boiling point, and forget the fire it took to get him there, and claim that's all he is; the F-word. No. No, no no no! Chef Gordon is passionate about food and the industry, and he's excellent at what he does. He CARES about food, so it's important to him. When he sees honest effort failing, or when he sees passionate effort being ignored, or like you said, when he sees budding effort growing... He shows kindness and consideration, he shows his real humanity, his empathy. That's why I have such deep, profound respect and admiration for Chef Gordon. And why that respect is given to you as well, Joshua. Now, AJ on the other hand, well... differences of opinion, and all that. He does his thing, and he does it well.

Yup. If Gordon Ramsey is chewing you out, it's because you freaking deserved it. As Josh pointed out, just watch him dealing with kids, it's amazing how supportive and understanding he is with them, and how clearly he cares about helping them explore this field he loves so much.

Okay, this was good. How you summed up the message of the episode itself and the conclusion towards AJ's vice was wonderful. Really great episode, no particular critique from me.

for 7:14: the difference being the the voice actors are american and not so popular with some people, and Funimation being a sister company of Toho, and is more popular to most if not all the world.(courtesy of the Godzilla films, and the Godzilla anime trilogy. which the anime you can watch on Netflix.)

AppleBloom could've kept the ribbon or what applejacks calls it 'a scarf' If she tied it around the base of the hat and not under it like a helmet strap or simply make a bow and place it on the side of the hat then stitch it onto the hat.

14:31 I definitely agree that the critic might feel the need to use harsher words when they feel like their criticism is not being heard or acknowledged. There’s also something to be said for when the criticism is for a problem that seems obvious to them, but no one else. I know I felt that way when I first started comparing different releases of many Disney films and how much their coloring was messed with! kzbin.info/www/bejne/iWSQaIR-lspobpI

Thank you. Someone finally said it. I get that Applejack's element is honesty but she just rubs it in. You're right. She does rub her values in everyones faces and is so stubborn when she's proven wrong. Oh and If I had a dollar for every time Applejack said "honestly, to say the truth, apples..etc" you get my point.
