My cat is missing since last week and our house is quiet and lonely in a way it never had before. The feeling of missing him is too much to stand, but seeing Calcifer filled me with so much joy and brought back good memories. 🥰Also, good luck on your upcoming exams and I hope you're looking after yourself!

Proud of you, Emma! You had a lot of tough things thrown in your path but you powered through and kept a sunny, positive attitude. Thanks for sharing with us and giving us book nerds a place to come and get recs and discuss our reading. I did enjoy "The Cossack" by Tolstoy as well. Keep smiling and reading, Emma! 🙂

Yes, all French manga is like that. Dutch manga as well! I think they’re the same size as Japanese manga. Not sure why English manga is bigger 😅 and they usually all have the lil dust jacket! Also the anime being padded with flashbacks and filler is a common thing. It’s usually because the anime will catch up to the manga so they stretch it out until they have more chapters to work with. And of course because it usually airs weekly so kids need a lil refresher sometimes. Not specifically made to be watched back to back basically 😊 Also third time recommending the Nana manga 😇 I think you’ll like it, it’s about a 20? year old girl called Nana who moves to Tokyo from her small town to follow her boyfriend who is studying at a university there. On the train she meets another girl called Nana who is also moving to the city to start a band, and they end up sharing an apartment even though they’re very different (this is all in volume one).

I really like your video, because I can feel your unique atomosphere! life can't always be fun, but I hope it doesn't hurt too long when hard or sad things happen. I will continue to support your life! p.s I'll study english hard and write it without a translator the next time I write a comment :)

Hi Emma! As someone who lived in Toronto for a year, I really empathize with how overwhelming and full of concrete the city is - and I moved there from another big city, Vancouver! Be gentle on yourself and it's completely okay to miss the nature and quiet of other places. I recommend visiting Allan Gardens if you're missing some nature, especially in the winter because the conservatory is so beautiful and green year-round.

the little part where you talked about the mountains is exactly how i feel about mountains! ever since i was little we visited various mountains in my country with my family and this year we are going again in a couple of weeks and i'm so excited because it just feels different than any other geographical type of form i don't know how to express it like i lived in the netherlands for a bit and it felt empty because it was so flat so i'm always super super grateful and in awe to be around mountains

Not French, but also from Europe: mangas here are tiny and have dust jackets lol. Especially popular, main stream mangas like attack on titan, naruto or hxh. I've seen some more underground projects that are usually considerably thicker be either without the dust cover or be hardcover.

As far as I know string plants are all pretty similar, so I personally don’t have a string of hearts but I have a string of pearls. What I’ve noticed is that they don’t need a bigger pot for a while since they have a shallow root system. It looks like this plant is doing really good atm and is putting out tons of new growth, I wouldn’t personally put it in a bigger pot at this stage. I’d wait until it starts to slow down/decline a little bit, and then look if you see some roots coming out of the bottom of the pot. At that point I would put it in a bigger pot, just one size bigger.

OMG! I just came back from a trip to Toronto with my family and one of the things that we were praising about Toronto (and a lot of cities in Canada that we've visited) is the HUGE ratio that we found between buildings and nature/trees compared to our cities in Spain!!! Really shows you how what you're used to can change your perspective 🙂

10:40 oh goodness, i'm getting ptsd from when i took my topics in american lit course 😂 yeah unfortunately most of american lit is like that. i feel like because america and most americans are so centered on individualistic ideals, all the essay questions i got for that course are always so broad because everyone has a different interpretation of those vague words like "freedom" and "the individual." i was going to avoid american lit for as long as possible until i started reading western american literature and ecocentric lit: blood meridian, monkey wrench gang, grapes of wrath, etc. that's really where it's at for me when it comes to am lit. those words that sound so fluffy, like "freedom," start to disintegrate when you realize not many people who have lived here (the u.s.) have ever felt truly free: indigenous people, black americans, latin americans, women, lgbt+, everyone. i think getting past the intro to am lit was the hardest part but after that you can really run with a lot of different angles ☺ sorry for the tangent LOL. glad you made it through! good luck on your final course! it sounds like it's definitely more up your alley!

My family has had our current dog (a beautiful little schnauzer-poodle) since 2010, and now he's having a great deal of kidney trouble and he's in the last phase of his life - I only currently see him around once a week when I go home for dinner (which is unfortunate) but I'm trying to spend as much time as I can with him while he's still around. Holy Christ am I going to miss him. Glad of the opportunity to reminisce a little with strangers on the internet though 😊 Also I am steadily plodding along through my One Hundred Years of Solitude reread, and it's been long enough since I first read it that there was an enormous amount of stuff I completely forgot about that is really hitting hard. Last night (-mild spoiler warning-) I got to the bit that discusses Ursula's blindness, and it was so incredibly poignant that it probably should've brought out a tear or two (it didn't, but it should've).

New subscriber here! *waves* and fellow Toronto girl *waves harder* I've been more of a romance reader but I've gotten burnt out on romance booktube and the... what's the word... disingenuousness (is that even a word?) of it all where it just seems like everyone is reading the same five books from the same five authors in order to get each other's views rather than from any real enjoyment, so I started looking for something different and happened upon your channel. I just wanted to see someone talking about different interesting books with an apparent genuine love for them and I found that with your channel and a few others. You even have me giving a second look at classic literature where I've always bypassed them before but you make them sound so interesting! Finally, I want to just say thank you for making me look at the city I've lived in all my life with fresh eyes. Your vlogs exploring Toronto have inspired me to go on more walks which has been so good for my mental health. After the past year where I started a new evil day job (the dream is to write from home full time) and lost my little sister to illness, I needed a mental health boost and your videos have helped me immensely. So thank you. I've also discovered a plant store close by my place that I never noticed before and...you know, I might just. :p This was a long ass comment. 😂

Very much enjoyed the (almost) hour we just spent together - thx. I finished my reread of 100 Years last week, and am looking forward to some human interaction, maybe a live show? As for Tolstoy, it is what is: I thought maybe the Dickens-Tolstoy debate project was a little much, but if I'm proved right in that respect I won't be particularly happy. As I've said before, I'm very much looking forward to the show where you do Kreutzer Sonata, one of my favorites. Calcifer looks good, as do you too, and make sure you soak up all the culture the big city has to offer before now, you may even like the opera.

We are going to get a paw print from the hospital we went to ❤️ I had her for 14 years so it made me so sad. Did help that people tried to make me feel better by saying "sorry for your loss" because how would I even continue the conversation after that? Do miss having a dog around following us around but my family wants to wait for obvious reasons.

Yes, it's necessary to get a 2d pup before because afterwards it's just too darn hard.

I was interested to hear your take on the Broken Earth trilogy because I just tried to listen to The Fifth Season and gave up maybe a couple hours in. 😬 I found both the second-person perspective and the attitude expressed in the narration so grating, but I am still curious about the world, so maybe I’ll give it a shot in print sometime.

Hey Emmie, You mentioned that you order clothes from Thredup. Would you mind sharing if you pay for any import fees and/or excessive shipping with their site? I looked into getting a few things but it doesn't seem Canadian customer friendly. Thanks!

That is a hard question. Its nice you can spend a day doing the exam although I guess that has its downsides and its open book. I did a computer science degree, it is so different, so when I mention of some of the study you've done and what your writing, its interesting, the look into something you have no experience of.

So jealous rn, my online English exams are just like yours, but I have to do them in 3 hours, closed-book, with supervision via webcam, and I get so exhaustedddddd. 😭 (Also, I have to destroy my scratch paper on camera at the end of an exam in case I wrote down the questions to give to other students, but maybe my school is just more paranoid than yours. 😂)

Loved this vlog! watched it while sitting outside in the backyard taking a break from reading with my cat Nyx! I was just wondering if your P.O box is still open now that you have moved? (:

What did you think about Story of an Hour? I don’t read a lot but I read that for my short stories course last year and it’s the first time that we’ve read the same thing 😂
