My godfather often talks about how much spam and canned meats he ate when he served for 2 years in the mandatory army service of socialist Czechoslovakia in the 70's. They were given 3 cans of spam, loaf of bread and some onions almost every friday, cause on friday the canteen was being cleaned and did not cook "normal" meals.
