Hi there! I'm sorry this is going to be a long comment. I've been a long time watcher of your videos and have Crohn's (diagnosed when i was 14) and have had an ileostomy for about eight years now. I just wanted to thank you for your videos so much because you've taught me so many things that I was supposed to learn from my ostomy care people but never did. Finding you and your videos have changed my whole life and my whole outlook about myself and my ostomy. It's also so funny and ironic that your video today is about going to the ocean and the beach because I'm going on my first vacation since getting my ostomy and we happen to be going to the beach/ocean for the first time. I was just packing earlier today and worrying about this exact topic when I saw this video pop up. Thank you for everything you do Maggie, what you do and how you offer help and advice is invaluable.

I feel the same way! I’ve had my ileostomy for a year now and I’ve learned more from Maggie and her videos than I did at the hospital with the ostomy nurse! She made a major difference in my life learning to live with an ostomy!

I don't have an ostomy (and I don't even like the beach, I know I'm weird!), but I can imagine it must be stressful to try to deal with an ostomy in the water. What a great role model you are for others for living life to the fullest with an ostomy!

You two are adorable together! What a wonderful fun day it was for you. I live in Southern California and I’m always struck by how different west coast beaches are to east coast beaches. When we go - we usually go to Coronado Island in San Diego. However, it’s not often anymore because we live in the San Bernardino mountains between Lake Arrowhead and Big Bear. Plus, right now our beaches are so hot it’s miserable and where we live in the mountains, it’s 15 - 20 degrees cooler. I’ll take that any day of the week! I’m so glad to see you out and about having a good time. You both look very happy! ❤

Nice to here you all have been enjoying yourselves and have been able to get to your beach goals. Love hearing the puppers have enjoyed too. I have missed a lot the past several years as far as getting out and seeing family and going on trips. I plan on going to the beach in October. My mom lives in Murrells Inlet south of Myrtle Beach. Love seeing you live life. Mine was on hold again recently due to illness. Thanks for the reminder to get back up and keep going once back to normal.

Nice job with the garden! Mine, which is on my small porch, hasn't been as successful. I put 3 seeds into a large pot. Cherry tomatoes. Now, these things are choking themselves with vegetation and I can hardly keep up with watering it before it droops in the heat. I've had some small 'fruits' to harvest, but overall, just a learning experience. I'm trying!

We just love our pups, too.. it’s so obvious that you guys both love them so much!❤ You guys, both of you, seem like the nicest people.😎😎 I’m so glad the pup that doesn’t get out much got to go. It just makes my heart sing with happiness! I know they’re not even mine, but I don’t care. I just love animals and the love they give us. By the way, I’m around here just see a few other videos. Im nan from northern Illinois. I specify because I Illinois is quite long and by the time you’re at the bottom of Illinois, you’re almost in Kentucky.! 😊😝🙃🙂

Maggie, you're a really great Retriever, LOL! You impress me how well you can MT on the go. Just rode Amtrak and the entire process was quite difficult while getting bounced around. Not sure I want to deal with that ever again.

There is medicine from the vet for car sickness. We had a Shetland sheepdog with car sickness and we made a trip from. MA to northern CA. We only gave half the dosage as he was13 yrs old. He slept most of the time stopping every 1 1/2 hrs of driving.

Cape May is the best! I live minutes from it and work there giving tours. I enjoy it so much more now that I have an ostomy as before it I had the “must be near a bathroom at all times fear”. If you ever come back come take a carriage or trolley tour.

Maggie, as a longtime j-pouch recipient and pouchitis patient, I have been dependent on my loperamide, Lomotil, and Augmentin cocktail for years. But, due to the opiate crisis I’m finding reasonably inexpensive sources for Loperamide are disappearing. Am I missing a route to this crucial component of my frequency management? TIA! And thanks for your work normalizing gut disease.

Hi Maggie. I'm a very recent stoma person and, to add complexity, a paraplegic as well. I've found your videos very helpful resource to manage my stoma and associated devices. Yes you need Cerenia for the dog for car sickness, you can get an Rx for pills. I always give it to my cat for vet visits. Injection works faster but pills are great for at home, it works for 24 hours but takes about 2-4 hours to kick in.

Hi Maggie ! The med you talk about for car sickness is probably Cerenia (Maropitan). You can get an injection at the vet but it's possible to get it in tablet (by mouth) form. Have you tried it ?

Hey Maggie; this is just a suggestion( I've got a bit of green thumb ),but you might want to try some seven dust on your garden, I don't know how it will effect the bees but it'll slow down the beetles and the boarer worms

FYI Sevin dust is highly toxic to bees. Sevin mimics pollen and can be picked up by bees, who then take it back to the hive and feed it to their larvae, killing them.

I've only been to the Atlantic ocean once. When I was a child, we would take day trips to the pacific as we were pretty close (Washington). Now I'm about 3 hours from the gulf, in south central Texas. Not many places that I've found along the gulf for sea shells.

Funny how a few miles makes a difference. I grew up in Maine, my home state. As a kid I would walk right into the Atlantic. Then my feet turned red as they went numb from the cold. I can still do it now as an adult.....waaaay into adulthood, but nothing passes warm comforting water as Hawaii beaches. Lived there for awhile with that soft sand that was so warm. That's the problem with a lot of over used beaches around the world, the sand 'quality' is lacking in a few places. Next week the family is going to Sebago lake in Maine. That has awesome sand and waves!! It's a BIG lake. Thanks for sharing your beach day with us.

Surprising for me that you can eat donut, anything made with flour caused me difficult time and is unable to pass faeces. I wear an ostomy bage as there is blockage in rectum.

I still don't know how i am stuppose to swim with my Iliostomy, i am afraid the bag comes off, to be fair i am afraid to do many things, crouching to pick something up, running of any kind, moving in bed, and i can keep going, i am afraid the muscle the gut goes trough tears, and they already told me people with a stoma have a 80 - to 100% chance to tear the muscle. 😢 i have had my stoma for 9 months now. and i still find it a shit show, i am 26 in a couple days and it feels so unfair and crappy to already have something like this.

I haven’t tried going in the water yet either and I’ve had my ostomies (both colostomy and ileal conduit) for about 3 years. I’ve always had issues with the wafers not sticking to me. I use hypafix tape to hold them on. Works great for showering but don’t know how it would do submerged in water.

@@808lublabs4 Ah yea, i also just started to use this sticky circle that i put on first and then my stoma so it all sticks better, though it is a bit of a hassle to get it all off again. Also would there be any discord perhaps somewere people can talk about Stoma's i find it a pain to keep emailing or scheduling a call with my Stoma person.

Hello . I'm so sad for you not being able to accept your stoma. I had rectum cancer thirteen years ago I'm 76 now. I wish I didn't have to have it but I just get on with it. If not I wouldn't be here. I know it's hard to accept it but the more you get on with your life I find it tolerable. X

@@Tenma_Gold I don’t know of an online discord. I’m lucky in that my ostomy nurse is very accessible. She started a support group that meets monthly for people with ostomies so we can share with each other. There are people of various ages and have had all different types of procedures. It’s been a great tool in dealing with issues that everyone in the group has. Maybe you can find something similar in your area.
