Taking off: Tales of older women who surf

“Taking off” is a new film conceived, filmed and produced on the Gold Coast tells the stories of six surfing women who are all over 55 years old. Each coming to the pastime for wildly different reasons and surfing at a variety of levels, these six Gold Coasters are finding their place in crowded surfing lineups while they also find themselves.
We speak with Jennifer Jefferies and Dr Alice MacKinnon, Surfers and Film makers about this documentary.

You have no idea how much I needed to see this video! I learned to surf at 40 in Nicaragua and because I do not live near the ocean here in the US, now I'm turning 50, I only got to practice oh maybe 10 times. I dream of one day living close enough to the ocean so I can surf for the rest of my life. It's the one thing where I feel so happy I could scream. Thank you for making this documentary of pure inspiration ❤

This is AMAZING you incredible women. So inspiring although 1 year off qualifying - can totally relate to the dream being crushed in the 80s and now in my 50s trying to realise that dream. It has been HARD and addictive, and off the board now for 6 weeks with an injury, is giving me time to reflect on the journey - so many lessons.
