look, Show me a distance no animal has ever been wounded and i'll be happy to limit my shooting to that distance. What you'll find, there is no such magical distance, because wounding an animal goes back to accuracy, and proper behavior predictions. A lot of archery is aiming where the animal will be, not where it is. So Ethicality cannot be determined by some arbitrary distance that applies universally to all archers. Because all archers are not the same. An archer with the proficiency of 15 yards should never attempt a 20 yards shot, I would consider that highly unethical. Not because of the distance, but because that distance is outside the skill range of that particle shooter. I understand, animals move, animals duck, they can do all sorts of acrobatic movements when the arrow is in the flight. But they do that at any distance, we’ve alls seen animals completely duck and get out of the way from an arrow only 30 yards away. So is 30 yards unethical? What you’re not taking into consideration is, at that distance, they don’t hear bow go off, if the conditions are right they can barely hear the arrow, in flight. Not to mention, not all animals duck as a natural means of escaping. So is your argument for every animal or just jumpy ones? What if they’re bedded down,and they can’t move? again all this falls back to the hunters ability to accurately predict the behavior of his quarry. ethical shooting in archery 1,000% transcends mere distances; it hinges on the individual archer's mastery, discipline, understanding of their equipment and their own capabilities not some arbitrary distance. Every shot taken should reflect not only technical accuracy but also a profound sense of responsibility towards successfully harvesting that animal you’re shooting as quickly as possible. whether I shoot 15 yards or 140 yards I would never take a shot I wasn’t 100% certain I could make with absolute certainty I’d kill him. And as for your wounding comment, in Africa when you draw blood, your tag is punched regardless even if it’s just a scratch. And where we hunt in Tanzania, you have a game warden with you 24/7 (even in camp) and on every single hunt so nothing nefarious can happen. So no we’re not wounding animals in Africa. Reach out to the PHs and ask them yourselfs. I don’t care.

how would you show a wounded animal.... sure that never happens. Fly fishers are the same fish never bleed when caught and released. lol. Especially a beast broadhead is not even capable of wounding an animal, i guess. because they are so deadly. Muuuuahhh Just jealous. Waidmannsheil

I think it’s ironic how a lot of people are impressing their lack of ability on everyone else and saying that a long shot with a bow is unethical. Perhaps if they would practice their archery skills as much as and as often as they run their mouth they would understand that their ability has potential to increase. Ability and confidence is relative to how much effort you put into whatever it is you are practicing.

I think being afraid because of this factor, that factor limits your mind to what your body can achieve.

Josh’s bow is one of the baddest on the planet with a 90lb draw and massive draw length that custom built perfect arrow is absolutely ripping along with a 2” cut beast broadhead it’s the same as you “ethical” wanna be guys shooting 60lb at 30 yards. All these people that are commenting on that his shooting is just ego and everything else I don’t think watch Josh very much. Dude literally practices all the time in different conditions and different ranges. Dudes even shoots while running (obviously he’s probably never going to do that while hunting) but he knows everything going on before hitting that release. Also he said he only had a few hours left to hunt and only had so many chances.

Thats impressive shooting, and a cool video. To try and bridge the gap bw those saying its ethical or unethical. Clearly Josh is as skilled as any with a bow, and has condifence in his ability. Those saying its ethical is because they know he can make the shot, which he displayed. The reason some say its unethical has nothing to do with his skill, but with the factora outside of hia control. Even with a 90lb bow, there is a lot of time between the break of the shot and the arrow hitting its mark. Enough for that animal to take at least 1 or 2 steps. So the liklihood of that shot going bad is much, much higher. To each their own, not telling people what to do. But those factors outside of your control need to be considered when taking a shot as well.
@traviswest2546

first shot was a gut shot-because he didnt know how much to hold for the wind-even tho he said "I held for an 18 inch wind drift"-this is also why the Kudu didnt take off running hard-you can also see the gut shot on the recovery (9:15 on the vid)...Kudu was standing perfectly broadside-easy pass thru....second shot...Texas heart shot...he got lucky and hit the femoral artery-hence why their was so much blood...you can watch the angle of the arrow/how much drop for the second shot...my guess was he was hoping to hit the back and come down into the lungs....but he miss judged the distance-how much the arrow would drop with the wind forcing the arrow down and hit the Kudu in the butt...horrible ethics...first shot should never be that far on an animal with a bow....wounded animal-do what you have to with a follow up shot to end the suffering
@traviswest2546
@traviswest2546 14 күн бұрын
also with that wind drift=extra force or "slug factors" on the arrow....IF your shooting for 127 yards you will have to hold for 135-145 yards= unknown variables...holding a tiny pin on target at that distance where fractions of a degree influence the arrow greatly in any direction=foolish on so many levels to ever attempt on a living creature and your not starving to death.
@SarahBethDeans

How many animals has he wounded off camera? In another video, even the guild said he should be using heavier arrows.

If you don’t know your abilities and aren’t 100% certain to make the shot then you shouldn’t. Blaming him for another person taking a bad shot is moronic. Josh practices daily at long distance and is very meticulous in Arrow building and bow building. His setup is more than capable of making a clean shot at 90lb draw. 😂 you don’t know the abilities of these new bows/aarows.

I hate to say anything against or critical of other hunters because there’s so much working against all of us as a group in today’s world. We need to be as united as possible. But I’m going to say it anyway in this case because it’s getting ridiculous. Yes he’s an amazing shot. Way better than I’ll ever be. Maybe he can shoot the nads off a squirrel at a quarter mile every time. Maybe he’s got the greatest gear that guarantees results if he hits his spot. Doesn’t matter. That arrow is in the air for way too long, once it’s gone you can’t get it back if the animal turns or takes a step. I’ve spent enough time watching critters to know you can’t ever tell when they’re going to stand still for the next 3 seconds. How many crippled animals does he leave out there for every video we see? I hope none, but I don’t believe it for a second. You can do better Mr. Bowmar. Those of us with common sense and real world experience will be more impressed if you hunt responsibly and not just for the clicks.

look, Show me a distance no animal has ever been wounded and i'll be happy to limit my shooting to that distance. Reach out to the PHs and ask them yourself.

@@BowmarBowhunting I don’t have any more arguments to make that you haven’t heard before and you’re obviously not about to make any changes, just like my opinion on this isn’t about to change. That’s fine, we all have to find our own way. We both want the same end result, we just disagree on how to get there. And I’m not about to make an effort to ask PHs who depend on you for their income whether or not you’re a stand up guy. As for the game wardens I’m sure there are some who are beyond reproach but African government employees as a whole aren’t exactly known for being incorruptible. Good luck in your future hunts

Come on, dude your ego is making it bad for the bow hunting industry. I've been hunting ARCHERY for over 40 years and I was raised where it's the challenge of the sport to get up close to beat the animals senses to take a good clean kill-shot. You're teaching, young hunters, bad habits. It's all about you, wanting to sell your broadhead and make more money with your KZbin videos. Bring your ego down to where the average hunter can relate.

First shot was a complete passthrough double lung and the second shot was a heart shot. Josh didn't have to take the second shot as the kudu would have bled out from the first shot, but he did so to be more "ethical", so what are you talking about, dude???

African game vitals are not like North American game their vitals are tucked up forward in the chest cavity behind the shoulder. Look at a kudu vital digram versus a bull elk for reference on what I’m talking about. He likely didn’t catch any lungs with that first shot there was no blood coming out of the nose or mouth. The second shot is what did him in fast. I would send a 127 yard follow up shot for sure the first shot was the one that wasn’t ethical. I hope people don’t think this kind of archery hunting is okay.

I don’t think an archer should take a 110 yard shot at a game animal. All that bull needed todo was start walking after the shot was taken and a perfect shot turns into a gut shot. A bull at 64 yards completely dodged an incoming arrow.

It is always a very bad idea to shoot that long distance. Almost every hunter can shoot accurately enough but in every case the arrow will hit an animal over 1 second after released and within that time can happen a lot. Only one step forward and you have a wounded animal
